Chereads / The Color Orange / Chapter 5 - Chapter Five: Homecoming

Chapter 5 - Chapter Five: Homecoming

I know that life isn't going to be easy for Ashlyn, knowing that she has this mark. This mark that possibly just changed her life. It's the morning, and I wake up in my green room, putting on my nice green 3 inch heels. I decide to call Ashlyn to ask how she is doing.

"Hey, Ash, how are you feeling?" I asked her, and there was a pause.

"I'm doing great, Mads. How about you?" She asked me, and I didn't exactly know how to answer.

"I'm doing well, you could say. I just realized that Thomas could possibly want me more than body wise." I said, and Ashlyn went quiet.

"What's wrong?" I asked her, and she started talking.

"I just think that, I want to live a normal life, you know? I don't want to deal with this mark." Ashlyn said to me, and I felt so bad because he is going to be angry when she finds out that Damara contacted her mother.

"Yeah. I completely get you. It must be hard to know that you have compulsion powers where you can compel anyone to forget anything they know, or being able to wear whatever color you want, or to be able to be yourself whenever and wherever you want. You don't have to be concerned about wearing one specific color." I said, and Ashlyn chuckled.

"Yeah, I don't want to compel people. It just feels wrong. I just want to be human." Ashlyn said, and I sighed.

"And tied down to one color? Like me? And Damara?" I asked her, and I heard a sigh through the phone.

"Yes. That's what I want." Ashlyn said, and I looked down.

"I'm going to come pick you up, okay? We'll skip the school day, and do whatever you want to do. You need a break off from the drama." I said, and I heard her do one of those chuckle smiles that she always did.

I get into my car after looking at myself in the mirror, wearing a green crop top that covers half of my stomach and my green skirt that is halfway down my thighs. I put the keys in my car and I drive on the way to Ashlyn's house.

When I get there, she is standing outside without her backpack, or her reading glasses that she needs for English. She walks out and she opens the door, hopping right next to me.

"What do you want to do today?" I asked her, and she gave me a thousand dollars.

"I want to watch a movie together." Ashlyn said, and I nodded, taking her to the movie theatre.

---

"Okay, now that we watched a movie, what else do you want to do?" I asked her, and she held up her ID that her brother gave her.

"Let's go shopping." She said, and I nodded, driving her to the biggest mall in town.

---

"So, Ashlyn, what do you want?" I asked her, and she walked into the purple store.

I go into the green store, and I look around at the nice heels they have. I see that they have his new Tinkerbell looking pair of heels. I grab them, and I walk to the register to pay for them.

-Ashlyn-

I already am wearing purple, and so I walked into the purple store. I looked in the T-shirt section, and I grab this one purple shirt that has a little Lilo and Stitch character on it. I also grab these nice purple sneakers and I decide to go up to the register and pay for these things, and then leave. I decided to wait for Mads at the car with my stuff. I see her walking out with like 3 bags of stuff.

"Damn, what did you get?" I asked her, and she opened up the first bag, and I realized that she got literally like 6 crop tops and like tons and tons of jeans, along with green pairs of Nikes in different shades.

"You think you really have to be neat?" I asked her, and she nodded.

"Yes! I have nothing in green. Except this." She said, pointing at her outfit.

"Either way, in a couple of days, we have to prepare for homecoming. It's next week." I said, and Mads nodded.

"I am so sad that Damara won't be able to make it." Mads said, and I looked down.

"Yeah, it is very unfortunate. I would've loved for her to be my date to the dance." I said, and I just smiled, and got into the car so that there's no awkward tension between us.

I hopped into the car, and she hopped into the driver's seat. She drove me home and I just layed down in bed, thinking about the future with this damn mark. It's going to consume me at one point, and that is not what I need right now. For something to have so much power that it consumes me. I know that whether I like it or not, it is going to mess things up and cause so much tension against everyone. I don't even think that Damara is interested in me anymore.

I think that the mark was a dealbreaker. I looked down at my new shoes that I got, and I smiled, putting them in my shoe rack of a closet.

I text Damara, asking what's up with her. She responds, saying that she can't talk right now, and that she is with her grandmother. Goddamn, that girl cares about people too much sometimes.

-Damara-

"You see, Alia, I want Ashlyn to have a good mother and a good parenting system because she is my girlfriend, and she deserves the world. She doesn't deserve for her father to be dead and she doesn't deserve for her mother to just leave her to a random 20 year old boy when she was a baby. That's just not fair." I said, and Alia nodded.

"About that…" Alia said, and she looked at Klaus. He looked at her, and gulped.

"Dysio is kind of still alive, married to Katherine in Metrotain. That is the last I heard of him before he left. He wanted to fake his death so that him and Katherine could live their stupid happily ever after together." Alia said to me, and I raised my eyebrows and dropped my jaw.

"No way. So, the legend was a lie." I said, and Alia looked at Klaus.

"Not fully, but at the same time, it's not telling the full truth. Dysio and I were in love at one point, and we did have a kid together, it's just that I didn't kill him with magic." Alia said, and I nodded.

"Okay. I need her to meet Dysio too. But, I need to keep this between us. She doesn't even know that I came here in the first place. She thinks I am with my sick grandmother, who's actually not sick." I said, and Alia nodded. I don't actually believe her.

"I get it. I am kind of scared that she won't like me, to be fully honest with you." Alia said, and I hugged her.

"I think she'll love you when she realizes that you're her mother. You see, she looks exactly like you." I said, and Alia smiled.

"Really?" Alia asked me, and I nodded.

"I am her girlfriend, actually." I said, and she smiled.

"I hope you're taking great care of my daughter. I feel horrible for leaving her with no explanation." Alia said, and I hugged her again.

"It'll be fine. I am going to tell Mads that I want her to meet you. You're an amazing person." I said, and I grabbed out my phone.

I told Mads that I do not want Ashlyn meeting her mother, and that her mother is fucking coocoo. I told Mads that Alia said that Dysio is still alive, when there is clear evidence of his death.

Mads sent gibberish, signaling that she's laughing, or something like that. I don't really care what anyone else thinks, I start to pack up my things, and I start to walk out of the door until she stops me.

"Where do you think you're going?" She asked me, and I gulped.

"Home. Ashlyn needs me." I said, and Alia looked at me.

"Okay. Go to her. She needs comfort if she's going to meet me." Alia said, and I nodded.

"Yes of course." I said, and I walked out of the house with my suitcase.

This mad woman literally said that Dysio is still alive. Dysio is literally fucking dead and it is clearly stated in the legend and his body is buried in the center of town. I do not believe this fucking bitch. I grab one of the tickets back to Sea Shore and throw the other one away.

I call for a taxi so I can get to the airport.

The taxi gets here quickly, and I hop in, asking him to take me to the airport. He got there pretty quickly, and I started to gather my things for my plane trip back to Sea Shore.

-Luna-

The school bell rings, and I decide to head out of the school, until this cute boy walks to me, and holds my hand. I get confused, but I have no idea who he is. He's probably a new kid. I am not exactly sure though, so I ignore it and keep walking.

"I heard you're Luna. I'm Carmo. The new boy." He said, and I looked right in his eyes. They're sparkly blue, like my father's.

"Hi. It's nice to meet you." I said, and he smirked.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go out and get a drink of coffee sometimes. Just the two of us. Nobody has to know. I mean, if that's what you want." Carmo said, and I smiled one of the biggest smiles I ever have.

"Yeah. That sounds nice." I said, and I see that Lana and Lina are walking towards me.

"Luna, we have to go." Lana said, and I looked at her with a snare.

"My sisters. Anyway. Talk to you tomorrow?" I asked, and he winked for confirmation.

Lana grabbed me by my wrist, and literally dragged me out of the building, as I kept staring at Carmo. Carmo. It's a unique name. I think it's Porteugese or something like that. I wouldn't know. I, myself, am a Latina.

"Who is that?" Lina asked me, as I kept smiling and daydreaming.

"His name is Carmo. And he's the new kid." I said, and Lana laughed.

"If I can't even get Wilbur to be with me, how are you going to get with Carmo?" Lana asked me, and I looked down.

Turns out that I am not the actual toxic sibling when it comes to the three of us. Lana is more toxic than Lina and I. Trust me, I would know

*flashback*

I am 14 years old, and in middle school. There is this boy named Wilbur, who I am looking to set my eyes on. And I am so excited that I decided to tell Lana about the boy I met.

"I like Wilbur. He's a sweetheart. He's also cute too." I said, and Lana looked at me with a smirk.

"You mean that big football boy?" Lana asked me, and I nodded.

"Oh my god. Luna, football boys are toxic. They always want the cheerleaders. They always want the girls who are athletic in their own unique way, and the girls who are willing to break their limbs." Lana said, and I nodded.

"Yeah, I know." I said, and I sigh into my pillow.

---

I walk around Sea Shore middle school, and I see Lana just talking to Wilbur. I don't think anything of it, but I decided to watch a little bit and eavesdrop. The next thing I saw shattered me into tears. She was kissing Wilbur, even though I liked him. I walked away, with tears in my face, Lana and Wilbur being the only thing I can think about. Lina is walking with me, trying to get a good look at me.

"Luna, what's wrong?" Lina asked me and I looked at her.

I wiped my tears and said, "Wilbur and Lana kissed. And she knew that I liked Wilbur."

"I am so sorry. I 100% guarantee that karma is going to get back at her." Lina said, and she hugged me, putting one of her hands on my head and she wiped the rest of my tears off my face.

*present day*

Now that Wilbur and Lana have broken up, I am over Lana being such a bitch to me and always taking the things that I want. Like, it's her job to overshadow my ass or something.

"Luna?" Lana asked me, and I jumped.

"Yeah?" I said, and Lana rolled her eyes.

"You need to stop blacking out so much, and I need to get you on the cheerleading team. There is one spot available, and a lot of girls want it. You have to kill it at that audition the Monday after homecoming, okay?" Lana said, and I nodded.

"Homecoming is in a week and I don't even know who I am going to wear." I said, and Lana looked at me, raising her eyebrow.

"Embrace your color assignment. I don't think that's a big deal. Just embrace it, but don't outshadow me. I need to get Wilbur back, so I have to be the gearing eye." Lana said, and I nodded.

"Of course I won't." I said, and Lana nodded.

"Good dog." She said, mocking my kindness, as she goes back to her red room.

We, as triplets, should've gotten the same color, in my opinion, but Lana got red, and Lina got blue, and I got purple. What a stupid color. Purple. My goodness. At least I got the combined color. It should probably mean something.

I decided to go to sleep early because I don't want anything to get worse. I don't want life to end up worse because of stuff that I have done.

-Mads-

I just woke up to start the day, and I text Ashlyn, asking if she wants a ride to school, and she says yes, like always. I am so happy that I have a best friend like her. Honestly. She makes me happy as hell.

---

Damara doesn't want Ashlyn to meet her mother, which I completely understand. You never know when a woman could be crazy and telling you that your dead ex husband is alive. How dumb of a person could you be?

I walk onto school grounds, and the first person I see at Ashlyn's locker is Damara. I look at Ashlyn and she smiles, hugging Damara. I think she's happy that Damara is back. I mean, clearly.

-Ashlyn-

"So, you're going to be my date at homecoming?" Damara asked me, and I blushed.

"Yes." I said, and I held Damara's hand.

We decided to do a quick peck so no one will know or spot it. I walk away from everyone, and I go to my class, which is something I wasn't able to do yesterday. I see that there is this new boy named Carmo talking to Luna. I wonder: why Luna of all people? She is a literal bitch to all of us.

I just sit down and ignore it, while I focus on class. I see Luna playing with her blonde hair, and talking to him. She's so annoying. I hate Luna with a burning passion. I decide to text Damara, and ask how she's doing in her class. I don't know what her first period class is. She responds that she is doing pretty well in her class. I ask her what her class is, and she says that she is in science. I personally really like science. It's very entertaining.

I put my phone down, and I open to page 8 of To Kill A Mockingbird.

"Class, you know that homecoming is in a couple of days. It's on Saturday, which is in 3 days. How many of you are excited for homecoming?" The teacher asked me, and I smiled.

I am honestly excited for homecoming. Damara and Mads could just focus on their dates, and I could focus on my date, which is Damara, and on myself. I already bet that homecoming is going to be a beautiful day for everyone. I am a hopeless romantic, after all.

-Luna-

I can see Ashlyn staring at Carmo. How do I tell her that Carmo is mine? My god. I look at her, and she rolls her eyes, looking away after I noticed her looking. That's right, you stubborn bitch. Don't come anywhere near Carmo.

"I was wondering, if that cup of coffee could be homecoming instead? Like, we go together to homecoming? It's not that far away." I said, and Carmo asked me.

"Sure. I don't find it a problem." Carmo said, and I smiled, hugging him. I stuck my tongue out at Ashlyn and flipped her off.

-Ashlyn-

I see Luna sticking her tongue at me and flipping me off. I walk to the seat in front of her, and I look her straight in the eyes.

"You better be quiet before I pop one in you." I said, and Luna raised her eyebrow.

"What do you mean? I didn't do shit to you." She said, and I stood up.

"You fucking sure? You just stuck your tongue out at me for no fucking reason and then flipped me off. That doesn't seem like nothing to me, you little snake." I said, and the teacher looked up at us.

"Ashlyn, return to your seat, and Luna, don't flip people off." The teacher said, and I sat back down, giving Luna the stink eye.

"Loser." Luna said, coughing it into her handkerchief, like I didn't totally hear that.

---

It's been a couple of hours and school is finally out. Thank god. I start walking to the car, until someone pokes on my shoulder.

I turn around to see that it's Luna that poked me.

"Yes?" I asked her, and she had the entire school in a big circle around us.

"Fight me. You won't." Luna said, and I started putting my hair in a high pony.

"You're on, bitch." I said, and I grabbed her hair, beating her down to the ground before she can even get a hit in.

-Mads-

I walk outside of the school building, and I see this huge group of people just, cheering someone on to keep fighting, and I get into the circle, and shove people to see what's going on, and it's Luna and Ashlyn. Not a good time, Ash.

I go into the middle of the circle, and I grab Ashlyn before she does any more severe damage to Luna, and everyone booed me.

"Come on, we were entertained. Put her back in the middle!" One of the kids said, and I got angry.

"No. You see, this is why kids at school are afraid to come in the first place. They are afraid to come because anxiety rushes through them to the point where they are concerned about getting bullied and beat up everyday. Kids fear THIS exact thing that you guys are watching. Kids fear getting fought. Kids fear having to go to the hospital for a concussion appointment. Do you not understand what this actually does to people?" I asked, and everyone got quiet.

"Exactly. Now go into your cars, and go home." I said, and I carried Ashlyn the whole way to the car.

---

"What the hell was that? You could've killed her." I said, and Ashlyn looked down.

"She flipped me off and stuck her tongue out at me in class, and then after school, she asked me if I wanted a fight, and before she could get a hit in, I decided to hammer her face first." Ashlyn said to me, and I widened my eyes.

"Jeez. I didn't know you had THAT much anger in you towards Luna. Now, we have to keep you away from her at all costs, okay?" I said to Ashlyn, and she seems to be agreeing, and not stubborn.

---

Today is homecoming. I wake up in my green room, and I pick out this big fancy dress that my mother got me before she left last week for her work trip to Korea. This dress had these little blue pieces and she remembered that even though I have to wear green, that blue will always be my favorite color. I decide to try it on, even though it is the morning, and my older brother walks in.

"Hey." I said, and he smiled.

"I think your date will be happy." He said, and I smirked.

"Evan, my date is the robotics boy I told you about. He's on the baseball team. He's so sweet, and treats me like an actual woman." I said, and he smiled even more.

"Nice. Am I going to get to meet him tonight?" He asked, and I nodded.

He smiled, and left the room. I think he is looking forward to meeting Thomas. My phone keeps going 'vvv' 'vvv' 'vvv' for no goddamn reason. I pick it up, and I see that it's Damara.

"Yes?" I asked her, and she started panicking.

-Damara-

"Since I didn't respond to Alia for about a week, she said that she is going to find Ashlyn herself!" I said.

-Mads-

"No. She won't do that." I said, and Damara kept panicking.

"Yes she will. I am honestly so scared about this." Damara said, and I looked at my dress.

"I will talk to you tonight. Right now, it's 1:00 PM, I slept in, and I have to schedule how I am going to get everything on for homecoming." I said, and Damara just wouldn't stop breathing heavily.

"Come on, Damara. Homecoming is a night where we can just relax. You can be with Ashlyn, and I can be with Thomas. It's a win-win." I said, and Damara chuckled.

"I guess you're right. Talk to you tonight." Damara said, and she hung up the phone.

Today and tonight is supposed to be all about homecoming and the happiness that it should bring to us. I get a text from an anonymous number. I am so confused. I just ignore it, as I start to situate my hair and get myself together for tonight.

-Ashlyn-

I just woke up, and I checked the clock. Holy shit. It's 3 PM. I overslept, and homecoming only starts in four hours. I have to be quick with it. I grab this beautiful pink dress, since everyone thinks I am a pink, and I put in these pink earrings, to make sure that it looks good. I spend about 30 minutes on my makeup, making sure the lipstick is right, and trying over and over again on the winged eyeshadow, since it clearly wasn't right.

Grabbing the dress, I fit myself into it, and I look at myself in the mirror. I love it. I grab the hair curler, which is something I never use, it's a monstrosity to my bedroom, and I use it to curl a small amount of my hair, as I use the rest to put my hair in a bun. I grab the pink lipstick, and I put it on, looking in the mirror to see how nice it looks. Now it's like 5PM. Homecoming starts in two hours. Like, damn.

I decide to call Damara and see what she's up to.

"Hey, Ashlyn." Damara said through the phone, and I smiled.

"Hi, Damara. How are you doing?" I asked her, and she smirked.

"I am doing great." She said, and I started blushing out of nowhere.

"I am sorry to cut this short, baby, but I have to finish getting ready. Love you, babe." I said, and I hung up the phone.

Homecoming is going to be super stressful, and I do not think I am completely ready for homecoming.

It's good to get some kind of break from everyone randomly disappearing in my life for some reason.

---

It is now 7PM and it is time for me to head out of the house for homecoming. I get a phone call from Mads, and I pick the phone up.

"Hello?" I said through the phone, and I smiled.

"Hey. Ashlyn, the limo is going to come in about five minutes. Thomas and I are in the limo on our way to come get you." Mads said, and I started rushing my way to the door, and I looked at the limo that just came to the house.

I opened the door and I walked to the car, seeing Damara, Thomas, and Mads in there. Damara in this small pink dress and Thomas in his yellow tuxedo. I love them together. They just seem like the perfect pair. Thomas and Mads seem really happy. The blonde, robotics baseball boy with the beautiful blonde basketball girl with green bright eyes.

"How excited are you guys for homecoming?" Mads asked me, as she grabbed a glass of champagne.

"No, no, I am 16. I can't drink. Neither can you, Mads." I said, and Mads scoffed.

"Oh, please. Some won't hurt, Ashlyn." Mads said, as she poured four cups of champagne. One for me, one for her, one for Thomas, and one for Damara.

"I mean, I guess one won't hurt." I said, and she handed me mine first.

I grabbed the glass, and I decided to take a sip of the champagne. It's pretty sparkling. I am not going to take another sip. I put the champagne glass down, and I noticed that the car stopped, which meant it arrived at the school. Everyone is outside, and talking to their friends and whatnot. I opened the door, and I got out of the car, so I don't have to drink champagne.

I sighed, and I held my hand out for Damara. She walks out and I see Luna is looking at us with a stink eye. I hold Damara's hand and I walk my way to the register to buy the ticket for homecoming. I pay for my ticket and for Damara's ticket.

"Okay, everyone. It's 8PM. Time to open up for homecoming." The principal said, and everyone started opening the doors.

---

As Damara and I have been dancing for an hour, there was a loud bang in the door.

"Mommy's home." This strange woman said, staring at me. I had no idea what she was talking about.
