Shopping was fun, tiring but fun. They had taken me to a lot of shops and bought me a lot of stuff, I felt a little bad but they told me it was okay. We had just gotten home and I was so tired.
"You okay Livvy?" Ash asks me, putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Mhm, just tired," I say, rubbing my eyes.
"How about you take a nap while I sort out your clothes?" He asks. I nod a little, wandering to the couch and collapsing down, and closing my eyes. I hear a soft chuckle before someone taps my shoulder. I force my eyes open and see Aidan stood in front of me.
"Come here," He says, basically lifting me up and half-carrying me upstairs to a room I'd never been in before. He opens the door and I quickly realize that it's his room. The walls were a dark blue with a light grey carpet. The furniture was all dark wood and smooth looking, sort of like the rest of the house. His bed was big with grey sheets. He smiles softly at me and sets me on his bed.
"What?" I ask. I didn't have the energy to string a sentence together.
"I'm tired too, we can both sleep in here," He says. I nod and smile. He pulls off his shirt and sits next to me, laying down and pulling the thick blanket over us, it was warm and soft. I let out a little sigh and move closer to him, he puts an arm around my waist and pulls me until we are pressed together. I hook one of my legs over his and he makes a happy noise. It doesn't take me long to fall asleep.
"Livvy," I wake up to a quiet whisper. I open my eyes and remember where I am, Aidan is in front of me, smiling with messy hair and sleepy eyes.
"Hi," I whisper.
"You look cute," He mutters, I giggle and brush my nose against his.
"Eskimo kiss," I whisper when he tilts his head, "What time?" he shifts, grabbing his phone and turning it on.
"Five o'clock," He says, playing with my hair.
"Warm," I murmur, cuddling closer to him. He chuckles softly.
"We should get up," He says, I whine, "I know, but don't you want to see your bedroom?" He asks.
"Yea but warm," I grab his arm and he laughs again before flinging the covers off us and scooping me up, I let out an embarrassing half squeal.
"You can see the pretty lights you picked," He says, grinning as he sets me down but keeps his arms wrapped around my waist. My face lights up with excitement.
"Yea!" I say. Suddenly there is a knock at the door.
"Are you two awake?" Liam's voice comes drifting through the room.
"Yea, come in dad," Aidan calls. The door opens and Liam's eyes widen. Aidan takes a step away from me and rushes to put his shirt back on, I frown. What was the matter with Aidan hugging me?
"We need to talk to Livvy," He says. This time Aidan's eyes widen.
"Already?" He asks. Liam just gives a nod, "But-" He cuts himself off, glancing at me.
"Come on Kid," Liam says, gesturing for me to follow him. He leads and Aidan down to the living room, sitting next to Ash on the edge of the coffee table, "Sit down," He says, gesturing to the seat in front of him. If it wasn't for the soft smiles on their faces I would probably freak out. I sit down and Aidan does the same, grabbing my hand.
"What happening?" I ask.
"We need to tell you about some stuff honey," Ash says, there is a worry in his eyes that makes my head swim for a moment.
"It'll all be okay," Liam says.
"So, first, there are a lot of secrets in the government, they keep a lot away from the public, okay? About two years ago there was a secret expedition to a planet two galaxies over, and they found something interesting. There's a gene that was released into a few people on earth a couple of generations ago, some of the inhabitants of the planet wanted to experiment on the human race due to their durability. Anyway, they could only release a reduced more tame version of the gene and let it mutate over time until there was the perfect vessel for the serum," Ash says. I didn't understand a lot of what he said but I knew something was weird.
"We've been looking for the people with the gene since then and we've found two so far," Liam says, "We are rounding them up so they can take the serum and gain... abilities,"
"Abilities?"
"Stuff that other people can't do," He says, I nod.
"Sweetheart, you are one of the people we found,"
It had been an hour since they told me. I mainly asked what words meant but there were a few serious ones too. They said I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to and stuff like that but I still had one question.
"Who's other one?" I ask. I feel a hand grab mine and squeeze a little. I look up at Aidan who smiles at me with worry in his eyes.
"You're looking at him darling," He says. I feel my eyes widen.
So the family that took me in, is actually some sort of secret government family with a son who has abilities. I couldn't help but panic a little, I wasn't scared, but it was a lot to hear at once.
"Livvy?" I hear someone say. A hand rests on my shoulder, I focus on the warmth and take a few deep breaths, calming down.
"Sorry," I mutter.
"It's okay, it must be overwhelming," Ash says.
"You can think about it before you give us an answer, we don't want to rush you," Liam says, patting my knee.
"I want to," I say, without really thinking. My eyes widen but I stop to think for a second. Why would I pass up something that makes me different, and a good kind of different. I could help people, I could be strong. I could show people that I'm more than just some scrawny girl with a crappy past. I smile a little, "Really want to,"
