"Father, I've checked the doors and the room, no one is here." Alistra assures the King within his chamber.
"Good, you know as well as I do that we can't be too careful with this royal secret." The King says in a tone much quieter than his usual booming voice.
"Indeed. On that matter, none of the summoned heroes show any indications of what was warned about in the prophecy." Alistra says.
"Well, that is good news at least, although with this one, we can't be too careful..." The King trails off.
"Father, that is what has been said about the other six prophecies that the royal family has acted on, and honestly, this one doesn't seem as bad as the previous ones. Besides, the first rule that the hero of prophecies said was a limit on his power was that for every prophecy that is changed by acting on the knowledge makes all following predictions more imprecise. Surely..." Alistra begins explaining before she is cut off.
"Not as bad? Not as bad you say. Maybe from your point of view, but from where I sit, I'd say that this prophecy is dire. Need I remind you the traditions and... burdens... that the royal family bears? Surely considering those things, this prophecy is just as dire as the fifth prophecy?" The King begins in his booming tone, eventually regaining his composure and speaking more quietly.
"You certainly aren't saying that the revival of The Great Black Dragon is on par with this. That prophecy would likely lead to millions of lives lost over decades. And. AND. Surely YOU remember as well what the royal history of that describes, how many men were lost because we were off in time by about a year, and we had to fight through a wyrmling nest as a result, that was the fifth prophecy, and it was off by a year. ALSO, there have been three missed prophecies so far, and our scholars have found no real link between them. Like the missed earthquake that was supposed to level the capitol fifty years ago? I understand that its my sworn duty to continue to monitor the prophecies and inform you of any indications that one may come to pass. I haven't seen anything from any of the summoned heroes to indicate that they would bring the human world to an end as we know it. I will remain vigilant on the matter, and keep you up to date." Alistra finishes her return statement to the King.
"Fine, then you are dismissed." The King replies, then whispers under his breath, "I wish she took less after her mother."
Alistra opens the window shades in the King's chambers, unlocks the door, and leaves to tend to one of her many other duties.
