After jumping around like a kid who just got ten dollars for the first time, I took a look at the skills available for me with both of my elements.
I decided to look at my dark element skills first as they seemed to be more unpredictable than my lightning ones.
The first out of five was called [Curse] It basically lowers your choice of three stats of an enemy by 5% and lasts for 2 minutes. It cost 100 mana to cast and doesn't effect undead creatures.
Next was [Shadow Familiar] It lets you create a pet and it stays around as a passive skill. It has it's own level and stats, and if it dies, you can revive it by casting the spell again.
If it dies it only loses one level. Also, it's level can never surpass the owners and if it reaches the same level, all of the exp goes to the owner. This spell cost 250 mana to cast but seemed like a really good one.
After that is [Summon Undead] which is pretty self explanatory. You can summon your choice of a shield, sword, or bow skeleton that's level 5. It cost 100 mana per skeleton and you can't summon more than 3 at a time. Also, they die after 10 minutes of being summoned.
Next up is [Shadow Chains] Which is also self explanatory. Shadowy smoke rises from the ground and surrounds your target and tries to bind them in place. The higher the level, the stronger the binding. It can only target one enemy though and costs 75 mana to cast.
'I guess since I chose Rogue Mage it limits the amount of spells I can learn to only two out of the four. That's kind of disappointing, but I'm more surprised that there isn't a single direct attacking spell in the second rank for the dark element.'
I switched screens to the lightning element to see what spells it had for me at rank 2. I was still deciding which spells I would go with for the Dark element.
First up for lightning was [Cloud's Descent] Which is where a cloud formed in the sky and conpacted itself into a small ball and when released, it would hone in on the enemy and explode on impact.
It dealt both lightning damage and what one would consider wind damage. It does a decent amount of damage but has no status effects and takes a couple seconds to form. It costs 75 mana to cast and gets bigger and faster the higher the level.
After that was [Lightning boots] which increased my agility by 5% for 2 minutes. It only cost 75 mana to cast as well. The higher the level, the higher the increase as well as how long it lasts.
Next up was [Thunderous Barrage] Which was an upgraded version of lightning. It cast 5 huge bolts of lightning at an enemy, if they moved, the spell would launch the next one in the targets current position. There was about half a second between shots.
It cost 150 mana to cast and the higher the level, the more damage it does as well as an increased area of effect, which deals 10% of the actual damage if the attack would've landed 6 feet around each bolt.
After that was [Electric Trap] which can be placed on anything. If it makes contact with something else it explodes and deals shock damage to the enemy. It's invisible to the naked eye, but you can sense the mana if a mage is perceptive enough.
The higher the level, the more damage it deals. It also stuns the enemy for half a second. It cost 50 mana to cast and you can make an infinite amount of them, but they disappear after 10 minutes.
'I should choose a good mix of offensive and support skills from both elements.' I thought before closing the screen. My brain had been overloaded with possibilities and combinations of both elements abilities.
'Oh, I can't forget about being able to use combat arts, which are all offensive or self buff abilities. I should focus more on tactical spells.' I reminded myself while racking my brain even more.
I didn't know many combat abilities, but I did know that they can cost a pretty penny since there are more warriors than mages, putting them in high demand. But that also means it should be easier to find a good seller in a main City like this.
'Ill examine some combat abilities some time tonight with Laori if he doesn't need to sleep. I'll head back to the guild and see if they're back yet. I never saw them pass by, but I am a decent way from the main road.'
I walked back into town and headed straight towards the adventures guild. I turned in my quest and walked back to the main dining area where all the adventures would spend their free time.
Sure enough, I saw Lily, Corey, and Laori having a conversation at a table at the far corner of the room. I walked over without any of them noticing me.
"So how'd it go?" I asked while joining them at the table. "Oh, hey Sphar, its about time you made it back" Corey said with a downcast expression.
"Yeah, it's just not the same out there without you, but it went great! Laori is a really skilled warrior!" Lily exclaimed while slamming her hands against the table.
Thankfully the Guild main area was always full of loud conversations and commotion so no one even heard her.
"Yeah, you'll have to get used to it though. I'm not sure how long my training will last, but it's necessary for what I want to become one day." I replied.
"Oh yeah, Laori, do you mind showing me some decent shops with basic combat abilities tonight?" I added before the conversation drifted elsewhere.
"We could always stop by the sword master in the Institute, they'll give us a really good deal and they have a bunch of different abilities available!" He nearly shouted at the top of his lungs.
It was so loud in this place you couldn't really hear each other unless you yelled. I gestured for us to step out and talk somewhere else and the others quickly followed.
We walked outside and realized the sun was already setting behind the city walls. "Me and Lily are gonna call it an early night. I look forward to our future adventures together Laori." Corey said before walking off.
Lily bowed and followed behind him and left before giving him a chance to respond. 'I wonder what that was all about' I thought as I turned to face Laori.
"Well, I guess it's too late to stop by the Institute so the combat abilities will have to wait. Wanna do some overnight questing with me?" I asked with an excited grin on my face.
Those slimes earlier weren't enough to get my blood pumping even a little. However, Laori's reaponse was less than satisfactory.
"Sorry, but tonight's my night of rest. I'll head back home, good luck though. Not like you'll need it." He giggled and walked away.
'Welp, looks like I'll be farming solo tonight. Let's see if the receptionist will let me take on a D- ranked quest tonight! That should rake in a lot of silver!' I thougbt before heading back into the guild.
In normal circumstances an adventurer wasn't allowed to accept a quest higher than their rank, but maybe the receptionist would give me special treatment since she knows my capabilities.
I hurried to the quest board and picked up a Kobold slaying quest. According to the map, theres an abandoned mine not too far from the city in the opposite direction I came from.
It's not technically a dungeon but it is a dangerous place none the less. I walked over to the counter and placed the quest down, full of confidence.
"You can't accept this quest." She said while sliding it back to me. "What do you mean?!" I yelled.
"Rules are rules. Go hang it back up and pick one you can accept at your rank" She replied in the robotic tone I just couldn't get used to.
'Old hag!'
