'I got demolished.' I looked down with a face of shame and disappointment. 'I didn't even land a single hit on him, and he was still holding back!' All of a sudden the old man's laughter broke my thoughts as it was extremely loud. I looked over at him as he was calming himself down.
"Don't feel bad kid. I'm a B ranked veteran adventurer, quite close to breaking through to the A rank. You wouldn't stand a chance of winning for another 20 years. You have a lot of talent, especially for your age. I'd say you qualify as a low D rank adventurer for sure. With some more fundamental training, you could use those skills of yours to their full ability." He said with an honest tone.
"When I was your age I was still working on my father's farm. I'm sure you'll surpass me one day." He said while walking over to me. "You might want to apply to the Adventurers Training Institute for youngins like you. It Will help you a lot on increasing your strength and knowledge." He recommended.
"Where can I find this Institute?" I asked with a curious expression. "You must not be from around here huh? I'll walk you over there. It's time for my break anyway." He said with a happy expression. 'I must've impressed him.' I thought as we walked back into the guild.
I walked over to the lady on the counter where she was still writing. "I saw the whole thing. Hand over your ID and I'll put your information on it. What's your name?" She asked with that same old monotone voice she always has. 'What should my Last name be?' I thought for a few moments before coming to a quick decision.'
"Sphar Linx" I said with a pride-filled tone. "Strange name youngin. Where exactly do you come from?" The old man asked beside me while the lady was writing on my ID. "I come from a small village in the mountains a couple of days walk from here," I replied.
"Can you tell me the name of this so-called village?" He asked with an even more curious expression. "I don't think it has a name, or at least no one ever told me what it was," I replied in a casual tone. "Interesting." He said while closing his eyes, obviously searching through old memories.
"Here." The lady said as she handed my ID back to me. It had my age, height, a very precise image drawn, and my rank. "Before you ask how I know the age and height part, it's an assessment skill I have. It just doesn't tell me someone's name." She said in the usual robotic tone.
"C'mon let's go boy." The old man said while walking out of the guild. I quickly followed behind him as we left the guild and walked around the still unfamiliar city. "I know this is going to sound dumb but can you tell me the name of this city?" I asked.
"You're telling me you traveled here without even knowing where you were traveling to? Where are your parents?" He countered. "Back in my village. They let me leave and start my own adventure." I answered trying to sound innocent. "This city is one of the main cities on this continent. It's called Shirak." the old man said finally answering my initial question.
"Thanks," I responded while we continued our walk to this so-called Adventurers Training Institute. After around 5 minutes of us walking and me asking random questions I had, we finally approached the Institute. We walked up the steps and onto the platform outside the front door where two guards were standing. When they saw the old man they both bowed and let us pass through without any questions.
"What was all that about?" I asked, confused on how it was so easy to enter a well-guarded institute for young aspiring adventurers. "I used to teach here. I taught the swordsman students." He replied. 'That would make sense why he's so respected.' I thought as we walked through the unfamiliar halls with groups of students around my age or slightly older walking around.
"So where exactly are we going in here?" I asked as we passed another classroom full of students. "We're going to have a little discussion with the principal of this Institute to try and get you enrolled here. With your skills and potential, I'm sure you'll make incredible progress in your training if given enough resources and a good teacher."
We walked up to a door with two more guards who let us in without any questions and a short guy with blonde hair greeted the old man like he was an old friend. They started reminiscing about old times until finally, they got to the point of why I was brought here. The old man thoroughly explained our fight and all my skills and potential.
"Quite extraordinary indeed." The principal replied in his much less dominant voice compared to the old man's. "What's your name?" He asked with a serious expression on his face. "Sphar Linx," I said. "And what class would you like to join? You seem to possess a talent for both swordsmanship and magic. Rest assured I'll make sure you get training in both areas, but the class you choose is the one you will receive the most training in." He replied.
"I would like to mainly focus on improving my magic. In my free time, I would like to work on my swordsmanship and rogue-like abilities." I said in a very serious tone. "You are a very strange adventurer indeed, but I think I can arrange something for you. Welcome to the Adventurers Training Institute. You'll be enrolled as a first-year effective immediately." He said before returning to his desk and writing on some papers.
"Report to Room 132 in the Magic Academy. Your teacher will be a man named Brolin. He also specializes in lightning magic." The principal said in a very nice tone. "Thank you for having me," I replied before the old man and I dismissed ourselves from his office.
"You showed up at a pretty convenient time as the new year of teaching just started around a week ago. You should be able to catch up in no time." He said as he showed me the way to my classroom. We stopped at an ordinary-looking room and knocked on the door before a deep and manly voice said "enter."
The old man walked in first and I followed. The teacher immediately bowed and asked what he was doing here. "I brought a new student for you. He shows a lot of promise." He told the teacher. "Can I get your name?" The teacher asked me. Before I could answer the old man said he had to be getting back to the guild. Once he left I answered.
"Welcome to the Magic Academy Class A Sphar Linx, where the most promising students that dabble in magic come to improve their strength and knowledge." He said. I bowed before the class before finding a seat in the back between a really nice girl and a sleeping guy. The girl was short and skinny with a bob haircut with blonde hair. The guy had long black hair tied in a bun behind his head with a tall and wide build.
The teacher resumed his lecture on the different elements of magic and most of the tier one spells for each and what each element usually specialized in. It was pretty much a more thorough explanation of what my system had told me when choosing my class and elements.
The class ended within two hours as I had shown up in the early afternoon, usually when classes end. Before I got up to leave, the girl that sat to my left introduced herself to me.
"Hey! My name is Lily and I'm a light mage! I hope we get along in the future." She said enthusiastically.
"You already know my name. I'm lightning and dark mage." I replied in a casual tone. "You have two elements? That's extremely rare!" She said in a really surprised yet excited tone, waking up the guy to my right. "what's going on? Did we get a new student?" He asked while half asleep still.
Lily then introduced me to the guy to my right. His name was Corey and he was an Earth mage. They both seemed like pretty nice people.
