True to his words, Caleb thought me the basics of how to work the machine. He instructed me on the know how's in which I had to grind the beans enough for a single portion, then I needed to stamp the coffee grounds with a certain amount of strength before I could install the portafilter back into the machine and pour a cup of espresso.
He then proceeds to briefly explain how to use the steam wand when a customer enters the cafe. I was about to move to greet the customer when Caleb beat me to it and enthusiastically greeted the man from where he stood at the bar.
"If it's the case of little to no customers, it's fine to man the bar in the meantime and greet the customers from here. However if you're the only worker present on that day, you should stand at the counter and keep your eyes on the customers." Caleb explains as I nodded and mentally noted down his instructions.
