Alrick, Akari, and I all remained quiet after the incident—minding our own businesses. I was busy looking at the people lining up and admiring how they looked like while Akari and Alrick were checking if their potions or whatever were complete.
I can't relate with them yet since I'm not a registered adventurer. Until my eyes could change into the color of my tier, I wouldn't be able to assess the items and understand what they're for.
"This world has too many rules!" I whispered in frustration. This world is too restrictive for my taste. Hmph!
Time passed by quickly as I looked around the area like a tourist. Before I knew it, we were already second in line. The female goblin's children looked happy and relieved when the guards gave them the go signal to enter the royal capital.
Now, it was the female goblin's turn. As she was being checked, I noticed how an odd figure bypassed the queue and stood at the front of the line. The guards immediately panicked because of the newcomer's presence, accidentally pushing the female goblin and making her things fall to the ground.
My brows furrowed because of what happened and looked at the newcomer who wore a dark green cape. His seemingly untarnished cape covered the entirety of his body—leaving everything hidden underneath the cloth. He was about 6 feet tall and had hair that was strikingly white. But I couldn't look at his face properly because of the shadow that his cape's hood cast.
At the corner of my eye, I saw how the female goblin cowered in fear and picked up her stuff without a single complaint. No one dared to give her a hand as they focused their attention on the newcomer—some even stepped and squashed the goblin's food while rushing to assist the guy.
Who the hell is he?! Why are people treating him like some VIP?
Because of this, my attitude quickly turned sour. I attempted to bend down to help the goblin but Akari tried to stop me. I harshly slapped her hand away and looked at her with disgust. "You know better than to stop me, Akari," I warned her before fully kneeling down.
The one thing I hate the most is when people look down on others. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of who or what they are. Our differences aren't an excuse to belittle others.
"Aki, you shouldn't—" This time, Alrick tried to stop me.
"Shut up," I firmly said as I picked up the goblin's bread that fell on the ground.
I've been sensing that the humans in this world discriminate against goblins. I don't exactly know why but that's not going to stop me from doing what's right.
I'm not from this world so I'm not going to act stuck up like them.
"They're right, you know. You shouldn't help someone like me. You'll just get yourself trouble" The female goblin said before giving me a sad smile.
I brushed the dirt away from the bread and looked at it intently. They're going to eat dirty food later because of the people here.
I shook my head before replying. "I don't mind. You were treated differently. I'm just here to show you you're not alone."
The female goblin's jaw clenched as if she was doing her best to fight back the tears.
"Thank you," she said while getting the bread from my hand.
I was murdering the newcomer in my head as I helped the goblin finish picking her up things. He was being thoroughly checked by the guards with care and attention. Opposite to how they treated the goblin family like trash.
Akari and Alrick couldn't do anything to stop me now. I rarely snap at my sister. So when I do, she knows she's in deep crap already. She can't cross my line that's why she's the one handling Alrick for my sake.
I scowled at the man before standing up. "Trash."
He instantly looked at my direction as if he heard my insult. I was initially surprised at his reaction but returned a glare when I got my composure back.
Despite the shadow that the hood of his cape casted on his face, some of his features were still visible. I couldn't really see his eyes that much but I noticed that he had a chiseled jaw, pointed nose, and pink lips with a round piercing near the corner of his mouth.
So much for looking handsome if you're a piece of crap inside. Tsk.
Once the guards were done checking this newcomer, they immediately let him in. When they turned back to the goblin, their face had a hint of disgust.
"Let those meat sacks in," one of them commented before giving the signal that the goblin family could pass.
I was about to rush forward and get mad when Akari firmly held my arm. "Don't do it. You're just going to cause trouble for them and for us. What matters is they were allowed to go in."
I stared at my sister for a while before giving in. I want to beat all of those guards up but I can't let that hinder us from doing our plans for today.
I sighed before nodding. "Fine. I'll cooperate this time."
"Why were you so mad a while ago, Aki?" Alrick asked while we were being checked by the guards.
"I just don't like it when people step on others."
"Well, they were just goblins," he casually replied. I looked at him and furrowed my brows.
"They robbed Ceravis two centuries ago," Akari butted in as she noticed the confusion and fury in my expression.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
Aki was raising both of her hands as a female guard patted her down. "Two centuries ago, the goblin race robbed Ceravis and plunged the capital into an economic crisis. There was an economic depression and starvation became a normal occurrence."
The female guard lifted her head and looked at me. "She's right. That's the reason why the people of Ceravis hate goblins."
I opened my leather bag as a male guard inspected it. "But that doesn't make discriminating others right. Those were two centuries ago. The goblins alive now are not the same people who robbed you."
I tried to reason out but all of it fell on deaf ears.
"Goblins are still goblins," the male guard said in finality while the other guards nodded in agreement.
I looked at Akari—her face was filled with guilt and shame. I'm guessing she had to ride with the townspeople's misconceptions to survive and avoid being suspicious.
I bit my tongue as I forced myself to keep quiet while the guards and Alrick complained about the goblin family and gushed over the man wearing the dark green cape.
