On the train, while looking for their seats, Seraphina discovered that their seats were adjacent to that of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke, an elderly couple who were travelling to Farmington Hills with their granddaughter, June who was the same age as Seraphina and Adrian and the three of them kept talking through the ride. The elderly couple shared their sandwiches with Adrian and Seraphina while they shared wafers with the couple and June.
"So," asked June to Seraphina when they had gone to the washroom together, "he's your boyfriend?" "Best friend," Seraphina corrected. "But you want him to be, don't you?" June retaliated. Seraphina flushed at the accuracy of the statement. "It's okay, I get it," replied June, seeing Seraphina's reaction, with a supportive pat on her shoulder as they walked out of the washroom.
