We pulled up to the gate surrounding our school. I punched my 7 digit code into the keypad and the gates opened up. I drove down the winding road to the main campus and parked in our reserved parking space, I turned and looked into Aurora's eyes as I turned the car off.
"What do you think is going on with mom", I asked. "I don't know she has been acting a bit odd lately like she's hiding something and so has grandma", she said. I know, I feel it too and they are blocking out our bond so I can't really tell what's going on with them I thought.
"Well school will be out in a week, I graduate in two days so I'll be out before you and I'll do some snooping around, see if I can find something out", I said. She nodded and grabbed her pack. A loud knock from the driver side window made me jump. It was Ethan, Aurora's boyfriend.
"Gosh lana, jumpy much", he asked as we stepped out the car. "No Ethan, you just surprised me that's all", I said to him. "How, I do this everyday", he said. Just forget it I said and he walked over and threw his arm around Ro's neck.
They started walking and talking. I over hear bits of their conversation and I just flinched at the things he was whispering in her ear as she giggled. That was the best part about being half demon, we had super hearing and our sense's were like nothing in this world.
I turned toward Ro and nodded bye as I turned into the Senior hall. She waved a quick bye and the kept straight. I pulled open the metallic gate and walked down the paved side walk. The senior hall is beautifully decorated with thick green vines and orchids everywhere, little ponds scattered about with beautiful freshwater butterfly fish swimming in circles.
As I continue walking down to my quarter I hear faint footsteps behind me, I turn around but no one is there. I continue walking and hear them again, I stopped dead in my tracks and spun around quick on one heel.
To my surprise, no one is there. I sighed and let out a deep breath. "Keep it together lana, your just exhausted", I tell myself. I walk into the main hall and turn the corner to my class door. Professor Lanova is standing by the chalk board writing spells for us to practice, all 35 students are presently sitting in their seats.
My best friend Sakura is in her seat next to mines writing notes in her binder. She looks up when she hears me near and smiles. "Miss shine, you are late once again I see", said professor Lanova.
"Take your seat and copy Sakura's notes", she said. I nodded and took my seat. "What did I miss", i asked sakura. "Nothing, just new spells she has us learning, which I don't understand why because school is out for us in two days. We are supposed to be preparing for cap and gowns not fighting spells", she said.
"Fighting spells", I asked. Why would we be needing to learn fighting spells I thought. "Yes fighting spells, I don't know why so don't ask me, just write my notes down and pay attention.
You know how professor Lanova is when u don't pay attention," she said. So I took my time and wrote the notes and listened to what she was teaching us. At the end of the lesson professor Lanova gave us each a ten page packet full of fighting spells for us to take home and practice.
I took my packet and proceeded to the door where Sakura is standing waiting for me. "Not so fast miss shine", professor Lanova said. I stopped and turned around as she nodded at Sakura to leave.
"Why were you late miss shine", she asks me. "I woke up late professor Lanova, I am sorry for my late arrival", I said. "Don't be sorry lana just be present and not 45 minutes late to class. Now I have an important matter to discuss with you", she said sounding serious.
"My Nephew is here and I would like for you to tutor him for three weeks starting next week, I will give u a few days to relax after graduation before you start" she said. I frowned and anger started to boil in my veins.
"Three weeks! No disrespect to you professor Lanova but I have a life that does not consist to me baby sitting your nephew", I spat with anger deep in my voice. "Is that so miss shine?" she said calmly.
"Well I guess you can take that up with your mother because she volunteered you for the task, now here is his information he will be at your house in a week's time, now have a nice weekend.
I'll see you Sunday for cap and gown fitting" she said. I looked at her dumbfounded and furious how could my mother do this without asking me? what is she up to. I stalked out the class room and down the hall. Sakura was sitting at a bench in front of a fountain waiting for me.
"What was that about", she asked. "Nothing, i'm sorry but I can't hang out today, I have to go home and have a chat with my mother", I said. Without asking she nodded and walked to her car, waving goodbye and hopped in her Audi and was gone. I hopped in the driver seat of my BMW and waited for Aurora to come.
After a few minutes she was walking out with Ethan hooked around her neck, smiling and giggling like love struck birds. They stopped a few feet away from my car and had a passionate make out session.
After a minute of waiting I honked my horn as I was already frustrated and ready to leave. She gave me a mugging face and kissed him one last time and hopped in. "What's got your panties in a knot", she asked.
"Mother, she went behind my back and she is being very sneaky. I have to find out what she is up to", I said. She gave me a concerning look and then looked out the window. She knew I was furious and didn't want to pry and piss me off worse.
I pushed the start button on my dash and spun out the parking lot heading home, my mother had a lot of explaining to do. Speeding down the winding back road to our house I was in deep thought.
Why, why would she volunteer me to be a babysitter for a stranger and not tell me. What was the trick behind this, was professor Lanova in on it? Calculating everything in my brain, I wasn't paying attention to how fast I was driving down the narrow winding road.
"Lana slow down!" aurora yelled but my foot stayed on the pedal. I was radiating heat from all over my demon was active and she was pissed. "Lana please your scaring me", aurora yelled.
Just as I was about to slow down a black figure flew in front of the car and into the woods. My foot slammed on the brake and the car came to a screeching hault. "What the hell was that", Aurora asked. I don't know I said. Even though deep down I felt like I knew exactly what it was.
The dark figure that kept coming to my dreams was real, and he just flew in front of my car. I was too scared to stay here and sit so I caught my breath put the car back in drive and drove home. I wasn't sure what was happening but I didn't want to stay and find out.
