Chapter 1 - My Introduction and Inspiration

Most of my inspiration for this book comes from my aunt in law, who has been the best example of a fake, legalist Christian. She has attacked not only me and my husband, but her own children and relatives. I have had several encounters of legalism with different people throughout my life, but none as severe as her. I'm not the only recipient of this sort of mentality. It is fairly common for girls especially in the church to experience pressure to be a "perfect Christian woman" and if you make certain mistakes you are basically a failure then.

Being a fake Christian is not a concept pertaining just to her, but something that has invaded churches around the world, particularly America. Its "righteous" and judgemental behaviors has destroyed relationships between people and God. It has split churches and prevented people from having a genuine relationship with Him. Sin is sin, don't get me wrong, but refusing to accept grace for someone's repentance and forcing "perfection" is unhealthy and not what God's heart is.

This book is a blend of satire and a serious look into the degrading legalistic mentality of fake Christianity. Since my aunt in law will be featured as examples of being a fake Christian, I will refer to her as "Mrs. Fake".

Side note, she does have some serious issues such as narcissism, manipulation, and general denial, but hides them behind being a "perfect Christian". If you want a good example of her manipulative behavior, watch the scenes with Mother Gothel from "Tangled".
