As Liam opened his eyes, he realized that he was no longer in the world of the living. He was in a dark, desolate place, and he felt a sense of foreboding wash over him.
"Where am I?" he said, looking around in confusion.
Then he remembered the events leading up to this moment - Dybbuk's curse, the battle with the townsfolk of Rochdale, and his sacrifice.
"I must be in purgatory," Liam whispered to himself.
He looked down and saw that he was wearing a tattered cloak, and his hands were chained with heavy iron chains that clanked with every movement he made.
As he started to walk, he realized that he was not alone. The souls of the damned surrounded him, and they began to close in, whispering in eerie voices.
Liam could feel his fear growing, but he knew that he had to find a way out of this place before the chains of hell took hold of him.
He started to fight his way through the souls, blocking their attacks with his chains and using his fists to push back the ones that got too close.
As he walked deeper into purgatory, Liam encountered souls of the dead that he recognized - those who had been lost during the battle with Dybbuk.
"I'm sorry," Liam whispered, as he passed them by.
He could feel the weight of the chains on his wrists growing heavier with each step. He knew that he had to find a way out before it was too late.
Suddenly, Liam saw a faint light in the distance and started to run towards it. As he approached, he realized that it was a portal - the only way out of purgatory.
But just as he was about to step through, a hand reached out and grabbed him by the wrist, dragging him back.
It was one of the souls that he had pushed back earlier, and it had twisted, grotesque features that made Liam recoil in horror.
"You will never make it out of here alive," the soul hissed.
Liam knew that he had to fight for his life. He wrestled with the soul, using his chains to block its attacks and striking it with his fists.
Finally, he managed to break free and fled towards the portal, a feeling of desperation urging him forward.
As he stepped through the portal, Liam felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. He looked back and saw the souls of the damned clawing at the portal.
He knew that he was safe for now, but he also knew that his journey was far from over. He had to find a way to stop Dybbuk permanently, and he couldn't do it alone.
Liam turned and started walking into the unknown, determined to find a way to defeat the evil spirit before it was too late. He didn't know what lay ahead, but he knew that his future depended on his success.
