Chapter 8 - THE SECOND NIGHT

The children woke and had a nice little breakfast. The storm was picking up.

They discussed the last night's events and went to the lake for a refreshing swim. They came back and helped the owner of the cafe to take orders.

In the evening, the storm was howling badly. The rustling of leaves made it even scarier.

At night the children got ready with a rope, torches, and knives and set off to the mansion.

But this time the kitchen window was bolted.

So Thomas threw the rope on an open window. First, he climbed up alone to check if the coast was clear.

He then came down; took Jenny on his back and told the others, "The rope is on a window of an empty room, but still don't make any noise."

In a minute, the children had crowded in the small room when Willy heard some noise.

He put his sharp ear next to the door and heard, "Do you think they will tell us," said a male voice.

"Well, they will have to. They wouldn't be able to hide it for long."

"Thanks to the gale that it stopped the vessel or till now it would have been miles away." growled the man.

After a few minutes, when no sound was heard, Willy carefully opened the door.

Luckily, the men had left.

"Over there, look," whispered Jenny. There was a ladder resting on a wall, and it reached an opening in the roof where light could be seen.

"Wait here, I will go and take a look." Declared Cam and climbed up.
