Chapter 2 - The Meteor Shower

At once, all signs of 'maturity' left the scene. The 'naughty kids' were no longer acting like poised businessmen; they relapsed into their gibbering chaotic selves again. I think someone might have fainted right then and there but who was I to care. I let the waves of people wash me to the exit, and I inclined my head to locate Yuri. Oh, buck. Of course, she was still in the sports hall, helping the stragglers out! I pushed against the tide, reached her side and grabbed her arm.

'I'm going to check the toilets,' she yelled over the fire alarms and even louder, 'mature young adults' screams. I was about to protest, but I saw her eyes glisten. Oh. She was playing Hero. I let go of her arm and watched her sprint towards the bathrooms.

I know what you're thinking. You're either thinking 'Yuri is so brave!' or 'Yuri's being an idiot. Save yourself!' Or perhaps you were thinking what I was thinking.

'Every hero needs a side-kick,' I mumbled, and I rushed off to aid her.

...

There was another boom, this time a bit further away- perhaps the science block. Hopefully, the fully grown adults made there way clear from the science block with all the explosive hazards. Despite having a deep hatred of the school and not setting foot in it for 10 years, I could recall every twist and turn, every corridor.. hmm the room outside the library still had that weird smell.

About 20 seconds later, there was yet another boom, closer this time and right up ahead. I guessed Yuri was alright for the moment because her ghost hadn't come to bust my @ss and decide to be my personal ghost cheerleader for the rest of my life yet.

I began to formulate various arguments to convince Yuri to evacuate after checking just one toilet when I tripped and fell flat on my face. I glared down to see what had tripped me up, to realise it had been my own feet. Feeling a bit red in the face, I reasoned that nobody had seen me. To think I was still so disco-ordinated after 27 years of experience in life.

'HEY! What are you doing! Get up, get up! Let's move.' Yuri was running towards me. I quickly jumped up and dusted myself off. 'Your little escapade to the toilet was cut short,' I remarked, raising an eyebrow. Did she chicken out?

Yuri looked distraught. 'I was nearly there when a huge boulder fell and destroyed the end of the corridor!' Oh, dear. How sad. I guess my thoughts showed on my face. Yuri glared at me, 'What if there had been people there?!'

'They would have used their common sense and fled.' I reasoned although I doubted it. But Yuri looked convinced. We ran back to the closest exit at the back of the library.

'Oh, btw Yuri, can I have my phone back?'

'Of course.' Yuri patted her pockets down. She smiled sheepishly at me. I sighed, of course, she'd lost it. 'It was right in my pocket when I went up to the stage!' Yuri groaned, 'I must have dropped it on my way to the bathroom. I'm so sorry!'

I couldn't stay mad at her. 'Let's just get outside.'

I shoved my hands in my pockets as we entered the library and felt something hard knock on my hand. I pulled it out and found my phone, unharmed. Yuri saw and shoved me playfully. 'Geez, you got me so worried.'

We stepped outside and realised these huge flaming boulders had been meteors. In fact, we were in a meteor shower. 'This is so cool!' Yuri exclaimed. '...And bad. It is so very, very bad.'
