"Whishmae, let's go on foot from here on; we don't want anyone noticing your large frame," I said as I dropped from over 2000 feet in the air unto the ground while Whihsmae went into an owl form.
"Ooh. I like the red owl form, and it's unique!."
"Thank you Clovis, let us be on our way now; we're almost there." She said, flying over to the road as I followed behind her.
We slowly began our walk, or rather, I started walking. Whishmae, on the other hand, just perched herself on my shoulder. We gradually saw cars passing us by, speeding towards the city and my interest was mildly piqued, and a wave of nostalgia hit me.
Looking at creations such as these fell nothing short of beautiful, in my opinion, those that looked aged and those with a more streamlined and advanced appearance alike. I took a moment to appreciate the work of art every last one of them was.
I came to a halt as one of the cars coming from behind started slowing down before coming to a halt in front of me. I was curious about why the person stopped, so I walked up to the car to ask if there was a problem.
The window on the side of the car went down, and I could now see the driver. It was an older woman with streaks of white hair, but she still looked energetic.
"Do you need a ride into the city, young one?" She asked, dragging me out of my stupor.
"Ahh. No, no, thank you." I said, trying to decline her offer kindly.
"Are you sure? I have four empty seats and travelling alone is quite boring if I'm honest. Come on in; you'll get there faster than walking.
At this point, she was insistent, so I could not decline any longer and got into the car. She started moving the car once more as we began heading towards the city, but not before she mentioned something.
"Peculiar bird you have there; It has a name?"
"Yes, her name is Whishmae."
"Peculiar name as well, huh... you're not from around here?"
'Makes me wonder if it's just a woman's intuition.' I thought to myself, thinking about how wise she is.
"I am; it's just that I was isolated from the world."
"I see."
"Do you have a plan once you get into the city of Lunvir..." She said, pausing as she realized she didn't know my name.
"Clovis, Clovis Olvir Cathal. And regarding your question..." I paused, doing the same thing she did as I did not know her name myself.
"haha. Maryl, Maryl Janet." Her giggle showed sincere ingenuity and happiness seeming somewhat contagious.
"Regarding your question Ms. Janet, I plan on going to Dawn academy."
She seemingly froze, shook by my answer as the school in itself was one of the top magic academies globally, and that alone made it exceedingly complex and expensive to get into.
"Dawn academy, huh... if you don't mind telling me, what magus stage are you at?" She asked with curiosity in her tone
"No, I do not mind; I'm essentially a step away from being a magus king," I said with a cheerful smile.
"At the age of 16?!! Quite the potential-filled young man. I take it you are blind."
"No, I am not; I was raised and trained with it by my parents my whole life, so it is just habit to leave it on now," I said with the same cheerful smile on my face.
"And where are your parents now?"
An eerie silence filled the air briefly before I answered.
"They're no longer with us."
"I'm sorry, they sound like wonderful people." Her voice was solemn and sad.
"Yes, they truly were."
"I'm so sorry; I had no idea." She quickly changed the topic, trying to defuse the depressing air that was apparent.
"No worries, you certainly would not have known."
We talked about a series of different things as we drew closer to the city; time quickly went by without noticing it as we indulged in our conversations. Thankfully she had offered to let me stay at her place, as I had nowhere else to go at the moment.
3 hours later...
"Well, we're here. Welcome, to the city of Lunvir!"
I looked outside from the window; being nighttime as it was, the city was nothing like what I was used to, from the liveliness, the tall building, the lights, all the way to even the dark corners of the streets where the shadows lurked.
'Truly a place where dreams can be born or crushed.' I thought, seeing as there was a whole arsenal of diverse lifestyles and potential opportunities.
You could hear the voices of people discussing all around if you listened, the loud honking that came out of the cars and other vehicles, the cries of joy and sorrow, the sound of the city.
"It's quite the sight, is it not?" Maryl asked with a smile on her face that could almost show her love for the city, even with all of its blemishes and flaws.
"Indeed it is..." I said, still marvelling at the sight.
Soon enough, we came to a stop at what seemed to be her house. We briefly stepped out of the car as I carried the already sleeping Whishmae in my arms. She grabbed her belongings as well before opening the door and walking in.
I followed right behind her, and upon entering the house, there was a sense of calm and decorum that somehow seemed to seep into your body, keeping the mind relaxed. I looked at her with a gaze that questioned the matter, but she just smiled back at me.
She gave me a brief tour of the house before showing me to the room I would be staying in, telling me to get refreshed while she prepares the dinner. There was another room in the house, one seemingly belonging to an occupant other than herself, and as curiosity got the best of me, I asked who the other occupant was.
"It's another boy just like yourself, except he's not as patient as calm as you are." She said while facepalming.
"And where is he at the moment?" I asked.
"Exploring the city as usual."
"Ahh... I see. Is he your son?" She briefly just nodded her head before saying...
"He was homeless since about the age of 6, so I took him in, and I'm trying to raise him to be responsible to care for himself."
I briefly nodded and let the matter go, going into the room to get changed and take a shower before I headed down for dinner and shortly after, I called it a night.
