Chapter 1 - The Legend

"Long, long ago when the Americas were still full of trees, grass, and plains, nothing but, there lived a tribe of indians," I began in a mysterious voice.

"Ooh," Dylan whispered, " neato,".

"Shush!"

Dylan pipped up again,"Wait,"

"What!?" I asked frustrated.

"Is this story true or did you find it on the web or something?"

"My dad told it to me and he said it was passed down to him from his dad and so forth and they all said it was true, so I suppose it is," I answered hurriedly, "Can I tell the story now?"

"Oh uh, yeah. Sorry, Lydia," he apologized.

"Dude, it's okay," I told him.

"Okay, now I'll tell the story," I told my friends around the campfire.

"Long, long ago there was a tribe of indians. They were a peaceful tribe. They hunted animals for food and their fur, they fished, and they relied upon nature to provide them with what they needed. Though they did everything you would expect a normal tribe to do, they however were not normal.

"There was something special about the tribe. See, the warriors had a gift. The warriors of the tribe had the gift to transform into the mighty and noble wolf. Having this ability helped them in many ways. Hunting and fishing were very easy as it was fun for the true animal inside them. When larger animals such as bears tried to attack the tribe, they would be prepared.

"One night however, was a night they will never forget. The warriors were walking along the coast of the Pacific Ocean which was not far from the tribal area when, suddenly something faster than the speed of sound bolted past them. All the warriors saw it, it surprised them very much so that they morphed into their giant wolf forms. They were on guard more than before. Unexpectedly, one of the warriors was knocked to the ground. The chief ran towards the fallen warrior, he was shocked with rage. The being was right on top of the warrior try to bite his throat with his dagger-like teeth. The beings skin was hard as rock and cold as ice, it was… A vampire! The cold, stone like creature looked up to see the chief growling at him. Horrified, the vampire jumped off the fallen warrior and bolted toward the tribal land.

"'Go protect the people!' He shouted.

"Every warrior except the fallen and the chief darted towards the tribe. The cheif took on human form, lifted up the injured warrior, and ran towards the tribe mortified by what he saw when he got there. All wolves fought against the vampire. Several members of the tribe were lying on the ground injured or otherwise dead. The chief set the warrior down by a tree, transformed into the massive wolf once again, and came at the cold beast from behind. The awful monster was caught off guard. The chief lunged forward and landed on top of the vampire. He fought, violently trying to tear the monsters head off. Eventually he succeeded, and after tossing the head behind him he tore the beast apart limb by limb.

"After the tribe recovered from the horror filled attack the chief readied the warriors for more invasions of the stone cold threat. The chief was right in doing so, because many vampires attacked the tribe trying to avenge the death of their friend. The warriors all but conquered the battles. Eventually the vampires stopped the silly games knowing they would keep losing. Wonderful news to the tribe but sadly the warriors were dying. The brave men sent the spirit of the wolf to search the world in hopes of finding the worthy people to possess them - for they had to get rid of one more threat to the world - vampires."

"Wow," Charlie exclaimed quietly, her brown eyes staring at me, " that was Awesome!"

"Yeah, I know," I said grinning back at her.

"That was pretty cool," Miley exclaimed, "Speaking of cool, it's getting cold and your parents will be here soon. We should start picking up the camp sight."

"Yeah, your right. Let's all start cleaning up the place, people!" I called.

My friends and I got up off the log benches and started cleaning up our trash and other stuff around the camp sight.

"Hey Lydia, will you come with me down to the lake to look for more trash?" Dylan asked me.

"Sure," I said.

Dylan and I headed out of the clearing and into the trees. We both had plastic bags to put our trash in. we walk in silence grabbing junk off the ground even if it wasn't ours.

We were about ¾ the way to the lake when we heard a rustle in the trees behind us. We whipped around to see absolutely nothing. Dylan and I exchanged frightened looks, but we continued walking. We heard another rustling this time in front of us. We jumped. Both of us tried to look further ahead but it was too dark. We looked behind us as well checking to see if one of our friends was playing a trick on us. We scanned the back for all of two seconds and turned around to be scared out of our wits.

We saw a wolf. And not just any wolf, no sir. We saw a large wolf. It was see through and had bright, glowing, yellow eyes. Dylan jumped almost a foot in the air and landed on the ground. That was what really scared me. I was so mesmerized by the wolf that I didn't even care to notice that my best friend was about to wet himself. I was startled by his reaction and jumped as well and tripped over my untied shoelaces, landing on my face. The wolf was still there, not at all phased by the clumsy, idiotic reactions of two freakishly strange dweebs. It just stood there, staring at us with its menacing yellow eyes. I slowly back up to sit next to Dylan. I was unsuccessful in being quiet but I really didn't care. We sat there for what seemed like a millennium.

We were ready to die there on the cold, muddy ground out of boredom when the ghost-like wolf turned tail and ran. Even though we were dying to get up and leave we still sat there, stunned. We looked at each other, our pale, sweaty faces shone in the moonlight. We scrambled to get up and didn't even bother to continue towards the lake.

"Oh...my...god. What the heck was that?!" I asked in disbelief.

"No fricking clue! That was insane! But, uh, we agree not to tell any one, right?" He said, muttering the last part.

"At least not until we get to the cabin, okay?"

"Alright," he muttered again.

We walked in silence after that. Neither of us wanted to admit that we had the crap scared out of us. Dylan looked like a tree sometimes because of his lean and tall figure but his dark, mud brown eyes shone so bright in the moonlight that I was always able to see him when I thought I lost him. We were nearing the campsite now and we tried calming down so we didn't look like we walked out of a horror movie. We walked into the clearing, smiling with trash in our hands, trying not to look suspicious. We walked up to Maru who was holding the trash bag and dropped our trash in.

"You guys are so sus. What happened?" He asked as we were just about to walk away.

"We'll tell you later." I whispered.

He nodded his head and we walked away. We went around helping everyone out and eventually we had everything picked up and ready to go. We sat around on the benches waiting for my parents to show up. And, here they are, driving the beautiful Ford F-150 that I love so dearly. It was actually just my mom who said she left dad, Thomas and Lacy at the cabin. My friends and I clambered in and squeezed together.

"How was the storytelling? Any scary ones?" My mom asked us as she pulled the car out of the clearing.

"Yeah Jayden told a pretty scary one." I exclaimed.

"Yeah it was pretty good, if I do say so myself." Jayden said proudly with a toothy grin on his face.

"Oh, be quiet," Charlie said, holding her hand up to her mouth to stop snickering.

"Okay, calm down we're here," My mom said as we pulled into the clearing of the cabin.

We tripped over each other as we tried to get out of the pickup. So, the result of that was that one or two of us ended up on our face in the dirt. And, as you most likely guessed, I was one of them. Charlie helped me up after she scrambled out and landed on her face, herself. We all headed up to the lit front porch. We were laughing and messing around as we made our way to the looming front door. I opened the door and my little sister came barreling towards us, screaming at the top of her lungs with a gleeful smile on her face. I walked forward and whipped her off the hardwood floor. She shrieked a shrill giggle. I set her back down and my friends and I headed towards my room down the hall. Our duffel bags were already here as we got here early in the morning and dropped off our luggage.

" Girls change in one room; boys in another," Aspen announced, taking authority.

"Alright," the boys said in unison.

"Well…go!" I exclaimed after they waited there for 20 seconds.

The boys scurried out and left us girls to change. It didn't take long for everyone to get into our pajamas. Aspen and I kinda freaked out when we all pulled out of our duffel bags, the same Harry Potter pajamas. Us girls were dressed in a snap. But, for some reason, the boys took longer than us. We all ran into the bathroom after the boys were done so we could brush our teeth. That didn't take long either, so we just goofed off until my little sister came waddling down the hall in her unicorn print onesie.

"Hey, Lacer!" Charlie shouted in excitement, her brown eyes glowing.

"Hi!" Lacy shouted back.

Charlie bent down and scooped up the baby. She kissed the top of her head, which was covered in ginger colored hair. Charlie set her down and she ran off babbling in her tiny, adorable voice.

"Kids, it's time for bed!" My dad yelled from the living room.

"Ok!" We shouted back together.

My friends and I turned off the lights-not thinking at all-and bumped into each other and the furniture until Charlie found the light switch. Then we all just bust up laughing because we were being so dumb. Then we started debating on who is sharing a bed with who. This took some time but eventually we decided that it would be Miley and I, Charlie and Aspen, Jayden and Jacen, and Maru and Dylan. All of us got into bed except Charlie, because she is the only one capable of turning light switches on and off. The room went dark and everyone heard a thud not five seconds later.

"I'm fine," Charlie said from the floor.

"Okay, so maybe none of us are capable of turning lights on and off without falling afterwards," I muttered slightly too loud because my friends were trying to muffle their giggles. We heard Charlie stir on the floor then get up and flop on the bed in which Aspen was already trying to fall asleep.

"Ow!" Aspen yipped.

"Sorry, Aspen!" Charlie whimpered.

Charlie crawled into bed and tried falling asleep. Obviously, that didn't work for any of us because we all get bored soon and started screwing around on our phones. All of us were fine with not sleeping. I started texting Dylan about the strange events that occurred earlier that night.

Are u all good? Should we tell everyone? When?, Is what I sent him to start the casual convo of almost dying of shock.

I heard his phone bing and everyone stared at him with horrified looks on their faces. We all held still, listening for foot steps. Everyone was absolutely silent. We waited for some time but figured that no one was coming. We watched Dylan turn his volume down, then he responded.

Dylan: Idk if wee should tell anyone rn, cuz we would have to turn it into a full blown convo. And yes I'm fine apart from the part where were almost EATEN ALIVE! We should tell everyone on Monday. Dylan responded quite fast.

Me: Ok, how will we tell them tho?

Dylan: Idk, how would i know how 2 tell our friends that we saw a giant ghost wolf?!

Me: Ok ok i see your point. But seriously, we have to find out a way to tell them!

Dylan: here's a plan; step one: hey guys we saw a giant ghost wolf! Step two: hello, insane asylum? Yes, we need 9 reservations. We believe these people who tell us about stuff. How bout that?

Me: ok, I'm actually fine with that.

Dylan: ok. Wait, really?

Me: yeah.

Dylan: okay

Me: okay

Dylan: oh my god stop flirting with me!

Me: I can't believe you just did that!

Me: that was awesome tho. Best reference to TFiOS! I'm so glad you are a fanboy!

Dylan: ur welcome! Ok ima go play crossy road. G' night.

Me: 'night

I watched him swipe out of the texting app and tap on what I assumed was the crossy road app. I swiped out as well and clicked on Gacha Life. I did some work on my character then met up with my friend, Seth. We went to school just for fun. Then we went to go get ice cream. I got off Gacha Life and swiped into Among Us, which I was playing earlier. I saw the creepy person, Jayden gave his phone number to. But, on the bright side I was an imposter with him and I outed both of us just for payback. I played Among Us for about 30 minutes till the lights in the hall and the rest of the cabin went out. My friends and I, knowing how my parents functioned, jumped slightly out of surprise, then hid our phones under the covers and pretended to be asleep.

My parents cracked open the door and looked in. After what seemed like a decade, my parents left. My mom turned her back and closed the door behind her. We listened closely to the creaking of the cabin and waited for it to stop. Once they ceased, we all pulled out our phones again.

When I opened my phone up and saw a Snap from Masen. I was a little freaked out as to how he got my Snapchat, but I opened it up anyway to see what it was. It was absolutely grotesque. He put on a filter that had devil horns and the word kiss on his cheek. He's had an obsessive crush on me since I moved here from California. I was sad to leave my friends in California but I really like it here, in Washington. I automatically blocked him, right after I send him a snap of me flipping him off. I had to do that because he just doesn't get that I don't like him. Take a hint, dude. After that, I just turned my phone off and got some sleep.
