Chapter 23 - Runic Inscriptions

--Gremory Point of View--

The trip took just a few days to finish, in the meantime, I was able to carefully analyze the changes I went through.

First, my size is the same, I think it's related to the physical ability and so... Is probably the same as before, but my birthmarks (scars) have grown tremendously now, in addition to the words, there are certain lines with runic inscriptions on them, after a while of reading I realized that it is basically a description of the skill, abilities, and effects.

*Gremory: A receptacle without black energy can have its body imbued with the summoner's own energy, if the amount used is equal to the original capacity of the receptacle then it will be able to return to life with reduced mental capacities according to the original ability of the receptacle. But the creature brought back by being imbued with black energy will be nothing more than an extension of the summoner.

My maximum mana capacity only increases when I evolve, but maybe I can modify this spell to use the energy in the receptacle as a source of mana, or even to recover my mana during battle. I need to learn more about how my dark energy is converted to mana and about runic inscriptions soon...

Moving to the birthmark on my right hand.

*Dyur: The ability to manipulate shadows and use it to shape in ancient shadow equipment, the user just needs to think about the equipment, and then it will be formed from the shadows, the amount of elemental particles used is according to the equipment in question.

But there is only the Mandrake Shield in the line talking about shadow equip...

*Mandrake Shield: A living shield that absorbs all mechanical strength and releases in a single attack at time and has no defense for magical attacks. The user must create a current of energy towards the shield and the target, if it is not created and the shield reaches its maximum, it will only release its energy for immediate dispersion.

Furthermore, what the darkness spoke about lending her power was true, looking in my reflex now I could see in the birthmark that was just below my right eye is now covering half of my face up to my neck, its runic inscriptions extended to my other marks on the chest as if trying to reach them.

*Hanzor: The ability to see true darkness at all times, if a creature of darkness is overwhelmed by the summoner, she becomes part of the summoner.

*Abyss creatures can also come to your aid if enough tribute is provided to them.

*Any creature summoned needs elementary particles according to its capacity to be able to stay in that dimension.

Moreover, I may not have access to knowledge about my element, but it appears that complex spells are simply inscribed on my body. It's a start, but maybe I can improve all of them too...

These inscriptions help a lot, but it doesn't make sense that they are not from the beginning, unless I am being watched by my creator, if that is the case then what the darkness told me would be a lie...

Besides, I don't even know what is elementary particles, from what I read is just mana, but a way to measure it, which means there must be a method to identify my mana stock!

The more time passes the more reasons I see to participate in Derlvit, I need more information and nothing better than wizards to provide me with it.

My others scar just increased a bit, yet can't read them.

Since we are traveling together in the same carriage with an armed escort of at least 40 soldiers, it would be a problem to test my limits without trusting the Marquis. So I decided to just assume that my power tripled since I am probably rank B now.

Once we arrived at Zimirt, I understood what the Marquis was talking about, this city made Lathrium look like just a small village.

The wall stretched to the sky and the city seemed to be endless over the horizon.

But even though it was so much bigger compared to Lathrium, the city was still very organized, and we didn't get stuck in any crowd going to our destination, that according to the Marquis, it would be the big arena since we arrived at the exact day of the Derlvit.

The Marquis also told me that, in large part, this event is just symbolic, since most magicians are born already in one of the large families, they only need to demonstrate their strength in the name of honor to continue in their respective families. But for newly arrived people from outside, whether from a noble or plebeian family, it would be a real test of strength that would define their life from then on.

Once we got there, the escort stayed outside while we entered the arena, or better saying, Great Coliseum, there were thousands of people in the stands and above it there was a grandstand floating with what I suppose is the members of the big families.

"We arrived a little late, go straight to the basement of the arena over there, there you will find the other participants and don't worry about the entrance, they have your identity already, so they will let you pass without a problem" The Marquis spoke while pointing towards a gate on the left protected by guards.

"Okay, don't forget our deal!" I spoke as I headed for the gate.

Inside was something like 60 children just like me, it was easy to notice who was already from a family and who was not.

The children who formed large groups with their family's crest on the back and jewels on their necks were the ones just coming here to complete the symbolic event, while the other two nervous children alone in corners trying to avoid eye contact are probably the ones of common origin like me.

'I need to join them and discover their ranks, I would be screwed if they are already rank A'

I approach the first child in the corner, it's a boy with blue hair who was practically staring at the wall.

"Hey, mind if I join you?" I ask politely.

"Yo yu youu, yes, you can" The boy spoke hesitantly.

'He doesn't look too strong, but neither do I. Yet my time is short, I need to know his strength'

"You don't mind saying what rank you are right now?"

"Ohh, I am in the same as everyone I think"

"And what rank would that be? I still don't know much about this event..."

"I see, well... I am already rank E!" The boy answered proudly.

'You must be kidding'
