Zelhart did not doubt that Kluster was telling the truth, that Scullery is far away, and he pretended to search for him after it's all over. But knowing the chance was pretty low.
By accepting Kluster's offer, Scullery would succeed in taking something away from Zelhart again, which he couldn't allow it and Zelhart has already let his dreams die to complete his purpose as Nature tasked him. So giving up on his revenge was not a big deal at that point.
However, it was unexpected, the King and Adel thought he would accept for sure. Even though the greater mages died here, their bloodlines are still alive on Valzor, but that castle is pretty weak right now, making this deal a great risk.
