The Constructor has gattered many people, but he found some people to be key, and even though he couldn't stop time, he built a place where time would slow down.
Maybe enough for him to live more hundreds of years, to fight another battle, or even to be alive when the people he gattered fights, but time would not slow down enough for him.
So as a man who saw everything that would happen, he knew that Nature would intervene even without her being able to see ahead on time, as she did with the Oracle.
Their attack must be unexpected, so to not raise any suspicion, the Constructor pretended to make a mistake only to let Nature find him. What she did right away.
