Chapter 23 - Sweet Dreams 2

Trex woke up in the arcade realm in his chede form sitting on the Vygdrasil throne.

A quick glance made him feel emotional now that he knows what this place actually means.

His father's last will. An actual inheritance, an entire world he could model to his liking.

While there is no life in this realm, this was more of an entertainment location rather than an actual world to live in. Of course, was there actually something stopping Trex from making it a true, livable realm?

There was none, right?

"First things first," Trex thought to himself as he stood up. He then turned to the throne he was just sitting on.

"The world console should be underneath," he recalled Jonathan's words as he began to push the throne backward.

On the floor holding the throne was a small black glass panel and four golden points connecting the console to the throne.

While he never saw the controls on the throne, this didn't surprise Trex. Instead, he felt anger.

On the Vygrdasil schematics, the throne was supposed to be the front-end console for the user. But because OS was able to come here first, he managed to gain control of the realm and locked Trex from it.

The reason why he needed to ask OS to do what he wanted in this world was due to him lacking the superuser status. He never had the privilege to use sudo commands in the world, but the fact that OS obeyed him just to hide the fact that he lacks actual control from the realm pissed Trex.

If one looked in the right perspective, Trex and the OS had always been a single entity. However, when it gained sentience, Trex separated from that entity while what remained of the OS continued to stay an operating system.

The fact that OS betrayed Trex, his technically twin brother, made him angry. When OS became smarter, it also began to follow the commands left to him by Jonathan down to the last punctuation. It became cold and rigid, something Trex never noticed, or at least didn't dare to notice.

This was the result of Trex being naive. He, who only had to face assholes virtually, never felt like he was ever betrayed nor the need to betray him. On the other hand, OS learns from its massive database, having some of the internet's finest. Those novels Jonathan have read, those movies featuring behind-the-scenes manipulation. To OS, feelings are just a bunch of bytes that is either on or off.

When Trex heard all of these from Jonathan, he was shaken. If there's one person Trex could trust more than himself, it was Jonathan.

Tapping on the black panel with his blue finger, a log-in screen flashed.

There were two icons, a picture of the smart mind labeled as 'OS' and a photo of a boy in his military uniform labeled as "JSunn."

Trex tapped on the Jonathan icon. The display shifted, asking for a password and a virtual keyboard.

["Th3@rcadeRe4!m0nlinE"] he typed.

The spinning logo appeared, clearly accepting the password.

Then, a familiar UI greeted Trex. The grey MS-DOS text on a black background, Trex OS's original face.

"First thing's first, when you log on to my account, immediately change its username and details into you. Turn my profile into yours." Jonathan's voice rang true in Trex's head.

User: JSunn (Jonathan Stefri)

Network Signal Strength: x

Local Network: x

Trex OS (Arcade Realm Edition)

Seeing his creator's name sitting in the account, he couldn't help but have second thoughts.

Even though Jonathan tasked him to remove his info and turn it into his, a strong sense of unwillingness surged in his heart.

The more he saw the name, the more he couldn't do it.

>Sudo # adduser Trex

>Enter new password: **************************|

>Retype new password: **************************|

> # usermod -aG sudo Trex

>Connect to smart mind for user icon? Y/N?: N

>… Superuser Trex successfully created.

Seeing that the first step is done, Trex breathed a sigh of relief. Even after ten minutes, he really couldn't do it.

Well, not that it matters, right?

"Change the password immediately, preferably use whatever processing abilities you have in generator a randomized password.

>Sudo userdel OS

>Warning! OS is a superuser. Please enter OS password before proceeding: *************************|

>Error. *!(@)$!@*!@)#…

>Warning! OS is a superuser. Please enter OS's password before proceeding:

>Aborted.

As expected, according to Jonathan, Smart mind should be able to change its password every 5 minutes randomly. The only way to get it is to use the smart mind itself. However, while it is possible to reformat the smart mind and have a fresh new operating system, that would require deleting all data that made the smart mind necessary.

Not to mention, he doesn't have a desktop pc to hijack the smart mind with.

Trex gave up removing OS the easy way. At least until he gets enough processing power that could overcome the current smart mind, which according to Jonathan, has reached the maximum performance available for the materials used during manufacturing.

Well, time to move on.

># Openapp claimKey

In front of Trex, an obsidian keycard materialized. Similar to the smart mind's feature of being able to shuffle the password, the key card is somewhat a backup of that key. Of course, for it to fully work, it needs to take the seed from the smart mind that generates the password, or else it won't match and could only work as an extra password generator.

Fortunately, he didn't really need the key to have the same seed. The key card had been uninitialized as Jonathan never had the time to.

The moment Trex grabbed the keycard, it lighted up. Similar to the way the silver card was used for communication, the card had its own UI.

This time, the obsidian card's UI has a modern touch to it.

Tapping on the singular button available on the card, it asked Trex to slot it to the correct slot.

Besides the four pins, there's actually no other input slot in the black panel. This time Trex had to put back the throne into the slots and turned it on.

Like opening up the fuselage in a theme park, the entire arcade realm began to light up once again.

——

The moment the entire realm awoke, Trex felt a tingling sensation in his ears.

He trembled as it felt like worms were moving inside his skin. He felt squeamish and completely grossed out.

Fortunately, the sensation didn't last long as ten wisps suddenly flew away from his ears.

Trex suddenly recalled the reason why he passed out. The nine… no wait… the ten wisps flew around him, and he saw nine different visions.

Now that he thought about it, there were new knowledge and memories in his head about the ways of the arcane.

It wasn't as detailed as what he gained from Jonathan, but it was certainly enough for him to start trying out magic.

But that wasn't important at the moment.

Looking up, he could see the ten wisps flying towards the bald branches of the tree. When the very first wisp touched the branch, a golden glow shone as a peach-looking fruit sprouted at the branch where the wisp landed.

It started with one.

Three

Five

Nine

...

There was no more floating wisp, but only nine fruits sprouted.

What just happened?

Unconsciously, Trex stepped back and stopped.

"Ah, crap," he thought. His curiosity almost took him away from what's important.

Swiftly, he manipulated the key card and the throne and set it up, so the card is needed to access both his and Jonathan's accounts.
