Chapter 16 - Findings 1

The ARI headgear began to light up as the jade on top suddenly became black as if it were the universe.

"Just relax and breathe," Michael suggested.

Trex wanted to nod but fearing the headgear might dislodge, he forced himself to say, "o… okay."

"Alright, let's start. First think about your name."

!!!

Tr... Mar… Marko… Marko Rhemi…

Words began to form within the jade.

At this point, Trex stopped thinking and just answered the question as aggressively as possible. Fortunately for him, somebody mentioned Marko's full name as he actually had no idea.

Of course, he wasn't thinking this way right now. The only thing repeating in his head is Marko Rhemi over and over again.

Besides the words, images of Eliza, Illana, and Michael appeared. These were the people who had mentioned his name one way or the other.

Trex is really fortunate here that smart mind never mentioned the name. In fact, OS did not even interact with him the whole night.

"Alright, that's great job Mar," Michael said, then tapped Trex's shoulder.

In the jade, Trex's shoulder appeared with a hand resting on it.

Michael nodded at the sight.

"Alright, the calibration is done, let's start for real," Michael spoke as he grabbed a pair of glasses from his coat and sat on his chair.

In the jade, an ethereal form of Michael was speaking, hiding underneath are words forming.

Seriously? That was just the calibration?! Why does this feel like an interrogation?!

Fortunately for him, the doctor was looking away.

Swiftly enough, Trex was able to remove such thoughts.

After wearing the glasses, the tiny images in the jade were magnified. Even from a meter away, Michael was able to see the jade's display.

"Okay so, first things first. How's your condition so far?" Michael asked.

"I..." Trex instinctively answered but was stopped by Michael.

"You don't have to physically answer, the headgear would be able to point out the places where you feel pain or something."

Immediately the images in the jade shifted, Trex's head appeared. So did his shoulders and back. The head was deep in red while the back and shoulders were at yellow, pointing that it wasn't in too much pain compared to the headaches.

"Seems like you need to fix your posture whenever you game," Michael mentioned, and his hunch back posture playing Spellworm appeared in the jade.

Trex's face turned red.

Eliza on the side had her eyes twitching, "son, what the fuck, sit up straight," she thought.

As if Trex heard his mother, he began to sit up straight.

"Now, the harder part. This time I'm gonna need your help," Michael said as she looked at Eliza.

"What do I need to do?" Eliza asked.

"Here, wear this. You should be a high level mage, right?"

"That is right."

"Here, the thing is I'll list down several things that may have come up from his past. You'll help me see the memories if it matches yours. The rule here is that as long as you recognize it from the past, then there are bits and pieces of memories of his past, if none then there's really nothing we could do."

Trex, while listening to Michael's explanation, kept his mind empty. This ridiculous high-level interrogation headgear is too dangerous for someone as weak as him who's got a lot of secrets.

"Let's begin, Trex."

Letters formed in the jade saying 'Okay.'

"Mana Crystal"

The image shifted and showed the mana crystal that Michael pulled out earlier, then another mana crystal in the game Spellworm. Lastly, the smart mind and the crystal behind it appeared for a moment before it glitched out.

Shi…

"What was that?" Eliza blurted, "That was something right?"

"Do you have any recollection of that crystal?" Michael asked Eliza.

"None, but it's not something we personally have," Eliza answered.

"Eliza…"

"Doctor, please, Marko's safety first."

Michael looked at Eliza firmly.

"This could change the future, you know," Michael added.

"I clearly don't care, there's already hundreds and thousands of years' worth of history yet look at everything around you, everyone is beyond selfish, including you. No, unless you recover his memories." Eliza countered steelily.

"You… sigh…" Michael surrendered. Eliza was right. With the incredible time and recorded history, in this world, if it didn't benefit oneself, nobody cares.

He had to admit that if Trex really ingested a mana crystal and survived, not only would this boost his own strength, he would also be able to set up his own force.

While wars had calmed down due to the reformations of various heroes from the past, everyone's attitude is still volatile.

Change usually happens during the generational transition, but due to the length of the average lifetimes of the truly influential people, it's nigh impossible to change. Especially since murder is only illegal if the killer was weak.

This includes the kingdom of Rapros Trex currently is in. Which is actually currently ahead of the neighboring kingdoms in terms of progress. Nobility and slavery had been abolished, which gave the kingdom a new kind of prosperity due to the rise of the economy.

"Alright then, Mar, this is important. Think harder about that mana crystal."

Trex began to sweat bullets.

Because a silhouette of a man slowly began to form in the jade display.

It was Jonathan looking at himself through a mirror with the smart mind.

When Trex looked up, he saw the disappointed looks of his mom and the doctor.

To them, it seemed like it was Trex looking outside the window.

While the current lifestyle in the kingdom of Rapros isn't at the level of modern-day Earth, fashion had long been developed. Even after a genocide occurs, most items left are preserved. Arcanists always put knowledge first. It's how they get stronger. It didn't matter if the enemy's culture survived. That was the original intention anyway.

Seeing a man that seems to be in a glass window wearing a weird accessory in his head is something very normal in this day and age.

Trex began to feel relieved. For whatever reason, it seems like the two misunderstood.

"I see. No wonder it glitched earlier, it was just a passerby," Michael ruefully sighed. "Next, beasts."

Soon enough, various beasts of different shapes, races, and species from the game Spellworm appeared in the jade display.

"Spells" it was a repeat as every image of spells that appeared came from Spellworm.

"Comrades."

"Friends."

"Battle."

"Escape."

For the following words, all that was displayed was Spellworm. Fortunately for Trex, those that had been imagined by him did not pass through the headgear. Only those he had physically seen had appeared. For his thoughts, it would always appear in letters and words. Only his memories turn into images.

For the first time, Trex felt happy that Jonathan was a timid person and didn't take many photos.

After a few more words, Trex relaxed. The keywords used by Michael are certainly not something he had encountered prior to becoming a living thing.

Even though Eliza and Michael had noticed some things, when Trex expounded, it was always in his room.

"That's all for today," Michael finally finished the list of words he and Eliza had prepared.

Eliza removed her glasses and stood up as she grabbed Michael's hand to shake it.

Even though Trex saw the two stand up, the headgear was still in his head, so he remained still.

"All's good. For now, Marko definitely needs to rest more, maybe it'll jog his memories along."

Eliza nodded, noticing Michael's push for her son's memory irked her a bit. Still, the doctor was right, so she just nodded and thanked Michael.

Michael stood up behind Trex and took hold of the headgear, "If there's anything, notice me immediately alright."

Before he could disconnect the headgear, red images formed on the jade before it went down.

Trex's heart palpitated.

The word noticed reminded him of the error warnings by OS.

It was only by a flash, but Michael still saw it.

He then looked at Trex, then at the headgear with doubt, and shook his head.

"Well, you can stand up now," the doctor beckoned Trex, who was still sitting dazedly.

"What's wrong?" Eliza asked, seeing Michael's sudden shift in expression.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just thought I saw words like error when I removed the headgear, I might have to check it out." Michael explained. "Anyways…"

After a few more words of warning and courtesy, the mom and son left.

Looking at the jade in the headgear that was slowly turning into white, Michael couldn't help but frown.

"Connection error?" he muttered.
