Chapter 6
Control
Kai's POV:
I was so distracted by the pretty flowers in the front of the house that I didn't notice Kayden getting out of the car and opening the door for me. He smiled welcomingly, and invited me inside. Trying not to wince while walking, that is. Once Kayden opened the front door to the house, I was welcomed by Kayden's sweet scent that was all over the place. It smelled good, and almost made me calm down just a little. As soon as you walked in, there was a small but quaint living room. It had a fireplace, and a soft looking rug. There were couches and family photos on top of the mantle of the fireplace. I spotted a cute kid in some of them that had the appearance of Kayden. He looked so different to what he is now. My thoughts were disturbed when I heard Kayden clear his throat.
"My family isn't home right now, so it's just you and me. If you wait here I'll be right back with a first aid kit to look at your injuries." Before I could protest, he had already started walking away. 'Like a first aid kit will be enough to heal all of these scars.' I thought to myself. My injuries were pretty bad, but I didn't want to be rude by inviting myself to sit on one of the nice looking couches. I ended up just standing there bearing through the pain.
"I got the first aid kit, if you sit on the couch I can have a look." Kayden said as he returned. "Look Kayden, I appreciate the thought but-" "No buts Kai, I need to make sure you're okay." "Please Kayden, I can assure you, I'm fine…" "No you're not Kai! You can barely even stand properly without wobbling! Now let me take a look at your injuries!" I flinched at his sudden outburst, and without thinking my wolf took control, and bowed his head in submission with my ears laying flat on my head. I didn't want him to see how pathetic I am. How easy it was to make me get scared and give in to my wolf's instincts of being an omega. Ever since I figured out my wolf was an omega, I was submissive towards everyone. It was easy to get me to bow in submission to everyone I saw. Over the years I learned to hold it back a little, but it was still hard at times, and now here I was bowing my head in submission towards Kayden. Whimpering a little like some scared puppy. 'No wonder she… No Kai, don't bring up those memories again.'
Kayden's anger disappeared immediately, and turned to one of worry. He must've connected the dots to what happened, because he looked at me with a look of understanding. He came up to me, or my wolf I should say since he was in control of my body right now. "Hey, it's okay, I'm sorry." He said while walking towards me. He gently wrapped his arms around me, being cautious of my injuries. At first my wolf froze in fear, but then surprisingly started to nuzzle up against Kayden's chest. After a few minutes of Kayden calming me down, did my wolf finally give me back control. Once he did, I immediately pulled away from Kayden's arms, terrified of what just happened. "Are you okay now?" Kayden asked. "Yes, sorry…" I said while not meeting his eyes. "Your eyes were glowing gold..?"
"Oh, that happens when my wolf takes control…" I explained. "Oh, I see. Sorry for scaring you." "It's not your fault.."
"Does your wolf have a name?" He asked expectantly. "No… not anymore anyways." My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind, knowing exactly why he doesn't have one anymore. "But I thought shifters always had names for their inner animals?" Kayden questioned. "Well, mine doesn't. Can you just leave it at that?" I asked annoyed while glaring at Kayden.
Kayden continued to say something, but I was too focused on the room spinning to notice. I was trying really hard to hide the pain from my injuries, but it just kept getting worse each second that had passed. I start to fall, clutching my chest where my ribs were broken, and where my scars and bruises were all hidden. Just as I was about to hit the ground, Kayden caught me. "Kai! Kai! What's wrong?!" "It… hurts…" I said through gritted teeth. He saw me clutching my chest, and without a second thought he lifted my shirt to see where I was hurt. His eyes widened in shock, and worry as he saw all the scars, bruises, and cuts that littered my chest, and all the way down my arms and hands. Some had dried blood from earlier which I didn't get to clean up yet. The bruises were all a dark purple and black color. Some cuts were infected from a while back, and you could say all the scars from previous injuries as well. Specifically the whip marks. Now he knows how damaged I am on the outside. He has yet to find out that the scars on the inside are much, much, worse. And unlike some of the scars on my body, they have yet to fade away.
