"Today is the big day," thought Celina after checking for the sixth time that she hadn't forgotten something. Her shoes were clean, all the documents in her bag were there, hair ok, makeup ok, everything in its place. But it didn't cost anything to check everything over again right?
Maybe the big culprit of all this is her nervousness, nobody had told her that when she finished her business school it would be difficult to get a job, such a possibility never even crossed her mind, she thought that several companies across the globe would be killing themselves to hire it, but reality apparently didn't buy that idea much.
Luckily (maybe not so lucky, but insistently) she finally managed to get an internship at one of the biggest companies in New York and could pay her bank accounts overdue by more than months.
Well, it was time to start her long-awaited "first day at work" and as she didn't want to be late she ordered a taxi half an hour before the scheduled time.
- "St Louis Avenue please". She said to the driver, in a firm tone so that he understood that he wanted a quick trip.
She followed the journey thinking about how happy she was to be able to take a step forward in her life, she was feeling stagnant until then, standing still while watching the silhouette of everyone she knew disappear into the horizon. And that step meant a lot to her, it meant so much that she didn't even realize that she was distancing herself from the place she should be going and that maybe it would make her step a stumbling block.
- "Avenue St Louis? Sorry, I understand Avenue Louise". Said the taxi driver, with Celina's hand covering her neck.
Arriving late on your first day is one of the worst feelings in the world, few know the despair that is taking over you at that moment, as if a tower of cards started to collapse because someone smart enough forgot the open window and the wind wasn't there the kind of nice guy to talk to at a party.
- "It was 8 dollars". She spoke to the taxi driver while counting the money that Celina almost threw at him in anger, but she didn't do it for the rest of the patience she managed to keep.
She arrived at the reception of the building panting and asked where the presentation room for the new interns was, the receptionist pointed to the eighteenth floor and then Celina ran out to take the elevator. While she waited in the hall, she thought of some excuse she could give to try to alleviate her situation, but she couldn't think of anything and even if she did she wouldn't be able to lie, if she would feel guilty if she did.
The elevator arrived and as he went up his anxiety and expectation went up together, he knew that he was already bogged down to the neck in problems and he considered going back home to apply for vacancies in other companies in case he was fired, I remain in his thoughts until I reach the walking from Mr. Telles' office where he stopped for a second, took courage and finally decided to enter.
Everyone looked in surprise at the figure standing in front of the office door, a strange silence overtook the environment until Peter Telles, the great person behind the entire Telles industry decided to break the silence at once
"
- "Miss Celina Evest I suppose?" Peter asked with a face would be Celina
- "Y-yes, myself, sir ..."
- "Peter Telles" Completed- "Do you know that you are twenty minutes late for the introduction of the new employees? Did she happen to give up the internship and come to communicate with me personally?"
- "No sir" He answered hesitantly - "It's just that something unexpected happened and ..."
- "No excuses, here at Telles Inc. we have rules that serve not only to show our focus on discipline, but also as an example, an example that we follow and that took us to the place we are in today. He thinks we have become the greatest the cosmetic industry in the country, by any chance, Miss Evest? "
- "No sir, look, I'm really sorry for the delay, I promise that it will never happen again" Said Celina while praying that a piano would fall on her head and free her from all embarrassment.
- "Well, sit down, I don't have all day to be wasting here, I hope you got the message Mrs. Evest"
He sat in the armchair and felt that his body was weighing a lot more than normal, for the rest of the day he stayed with Telles and the rest of the new employees for the company while he became familiar with his new role until finally after that everything was released and then he can go rest at home. She opened the door slowly while yawning, turned on the lights, went to the bathroom, took a long shower, had dinner and promised herself that the next day she would buy a bicycle and never be late anywhere ...
