Chapter 1 - The awakening

Adison rolled her eyes as her mother called her name for a fourth time. It was too early for this shit. Having no idea what it was she was supposed to have done this time she rolled over with long yawn that turned into a stretch.

She sat up and looked around her room. The white vanity, the French doors and white curtains, her brown home work desk that her father bought her at fifteen and her walk in closet.

Addy was privileged. Addy was beautiful. But Addi was not popular and Addison often felt alone.

Addison was far too opinionated for her small town and far too hostile to deal with the old school biased beliefs that the majority of the town members held.

For one she has no idea why everyone in Newport Landing loved it. There were still confederate soldiers monuments there, they had a hanging tree from when the towns folks killed some witches back in the day and they only had one Starbucks that closed at 8pm.

But sadly it was all Addi had ever known.

"Addison!!!!" Her mother bellowed.

"What!?" Yelled Addison as if her mother has no reason to be annoyed with her.

Addy hurumphed down the stairs to see what she wanted.

"Yes??" Said Addison waiting for her mother to look up from the kitchen.

"Are you eating?" She asked her daughter. Her skin was fair unlike the deep tan of her daughters. Where her daughters eyes were almond shaped and brown Kristi had blue eyes but her daughter got her eye shape from her.

Some people claimed you could still tell that they were related that they even looked alike.

She surveyed her daughter how it seemed was determined to remain constantly disgruntled.

"You aren't even dressed." Stated her mother "you'll miss the bus."

"That's the point" said Addison with an eye roll.

"So am I going to get another phone call about your refusal to remove your piercings?"

"I don't know? Are they going to refuse to focus on my education instead of my appearance?" She debated her mother as she grabbed a biscuit.

"Whatever Addison You don't have time walk to school." Her mother carried out of the kitchen to her office with her breakfast and orange juice angrily.

"What did you do now Addison?" Sighed her father walking into the kitchen from the opposite entrance her mother left.

"Wow." Exclaimed Addison. "I just woke up. What is it with you guys?"

She looked at her father indignantly. He scratched his inky black coils and gave a dull yawn.

"Take your meds kid and get going." He said reaching into one of the kitchen cabinets and grabbing her ADHD and depression meds.

Fun fact. Repetitive fights, conflicts with authority figures and the inability to focus on somethings gets you medicated. She had been since she was 12. By 14 years old she was used to it. At 16 she had a use for it.

Her father kissed the top of her curly head as he set the pills besides her. As he went to plate his breakfast he didn't notice his daughters hand move towards her pajama pants pocket before traveling upward towards her mouth mimicking the motion of taking her pills and even going the extra length to sip her orange juice as if she actually took it. She was Oscar worthy.

Addison took the trail on the outskirts of the Forrest to school. It was early fall and Addison was just getting used to the routine of school again.

She waited by a tree and leaned up against a rock and waited for her first before school arrangement.

She dug in her bag and sparked a cigarette as she waited.

Newport forest had abandoned grave yards deep with in, copper heads, wolves and mountain lions. There were stories, theories and confirmed incidents dating back 200 years. Many residents today say the forest gives off a spooky vibe. Either way it was off limits and closed to the public.

Admittedly not even addy had been any deeper than the out skirts. But Addison liked the forest. She wasn't afraid of it. Sometimes she saw deer and fox. The vibe sometimes did send shivers but only because it felt so powerful like it was something that ought to be respected.... plus it was peaceful no one went there.

"I hate that you insist on meeting here." Came the annoyed voice of Jeremy Tyler.

"Yeah yeah" mocked Addy. As she went in her bag again. She extracted the four pills from this morning. And stood up.

"Forty." She said firmly with hands out.

"Jesus" winced Jeremy. He went in his back pocket for the money anyways.

"And it's two twenty milligrams?" He double checked

"Yup." Said addy slapping his hand with hers.

The hand shake they exchanged drugs for money and Jeremy was on his way.

Addy knew that she probably should be too but she couldn't help but linger. She closed her eyes as in to savor the last bit of her freedom when she heard it.

"Addison.."

"Huh?" She jolted up.

The wind just called her name...

Addison decided it was time to start making her way to school.
