Alex came home the next day after the wild night he had with his girlfriend. He was smiling so much when he entered the house. But as soon as he saw Roberta, the happiness he had in his eyes just disappeared. There was something about this girl that just irritated him. He hated the good girl behavior she was always putting up. It totally annoyed him to the core. She was in the living room, watching TV and just drinking her cup of tea like she owned the house. Alex passed by her and attempted to go upstairs but Roberta just had to stop him again like she always does.
"Your mother you should come see her as soon as you came back. She wants to see you," Roberta said, her eyes glued to the TV.
Alex just clenched his teeth and griped his fists. he tried calming himself down by breathing slowly.
"Have I not told you never to speak to me? What do you want from me?"
"I am only telling you what your mother told me to me tell you. That's all. Don't get mad at me," Roberta replied not taking her eyes off what she was watching.
"You enjoy this, don't you? You enjoy it when my mother scolds me, right?" Alex said, anger in his eyes.
Roberta breathed in deep and looked up to stare at Alex who looked like he was about to explode. Roberta had always had a crush on Alex ever since she set her eyes on him. She was just five years old by then. She was very young to understand what she was feeling at that time. She understood it better when she grew. Each time she felt she could get closer to the boy who makes her world bright, he began slipping away from her. Its not like he had ever been nice to her. He has always been cold and rude to her but she never let that get to her. Staring at him right now was making her heart do some sorts of somersaults in her chest.
"Why would I be happy about the arguments you always have with your mother? Do you think I like seeing you and your mother unhappy in this house?" Roberta asked, sounding very hurt.
I don't care who you think you are in this house. But let me remind you one thing, you don't control what I do with my life. Do you understand?"
"How dare you talk to her like that? Why do you find faults with everything she does, huh? Why do you hate her so much?" his mother said behind him. He rolled his eyes and sighed in frustration.
He turned to his mother dramatically and smiled. "Good day to you too, mother." He walked towards his mother and kissed her on the cheek.
Roberta quietly excused herself and left mother and son alone. She went up to her room with a sad look on her face. Mrs. Palm noticed the look on her face but did not say anything else to her. She watched with pained expression as Roberta left the room.
"You do not need to be rude to her. She is just watching out for you. You know you are like a brother to her," Mrs. Palm reproached her son who looked uncaring about the whole situation.
"So, are you going to tell me where you were last night?"
"Mother, come on. I know Roberta already told you where I was. So, why are you still asking?"
"So, you were truly with that Melissa, right?" his mother squinted her eyes at him.
"Oh come on, mother. She is my girlfriend and I love her. Nothing in this world will make me leave her." He began to walk away from his mother but her next words stopped him in his tracks.
"If you want to continue being called my son, you will stop that stupid affair with her."
"What did you just say, mother? Are you threatening me?" he looked hurt but his mother had her back turned to him.
"Its either her or your family. Choose."
"Why would you do this? I am your only son. Are you really going to disown me because i chose to be with the girl I love?" it was now his mother's turn to look him in the eye now.
She tried touching his cheek but he stepped back, avoiding her touch. Mrs. Palm felt hurt but she did not show it. "You are my son and i love you. That is why I am doing this. I don't want to see you hurt. Cant you see that? I don't think Melissa is the girl for you."
"And how do you know she is not the girl for me? Or do you prefer someone like Roberta? Yes, i am sure she is the one telling you silly things about Melissa. Isn't she?" Alex angrily turned around and ran upstairs. His mother tried stopping him but he did not even stop for a second.
He banged on Roberta's door hard, startling the poor girl. She walked towards her door and opened it, only to be thrown down by an angry Alex.
"Ouch," she screamed when her butt landed on the hard floor.
"Its you, isn't it? you are the one doing this. Why cant you stop interfering with my life? What do you want from me?"
Alex was angry and panting hard, scaring Roberta. He has never been nice to her but he has never been this physical. He looked very angry as well and Roberta could not understand what she had done to make him this angry.
"I don't understand what I did. What did I do for you to treat me like this?" she picked herself off the floor.
Alex walked towards her as she stepped back in fear. Her back hit the wall as Alex pinned her with his body, his hands on each side of her head. He got dangerously close to her, while she shuddered from having him so close.
"I'm going to say this for the last time. Don't ever interfere with my life again. Otherwise, i will make regret ever stepping foot into this house." he whispered in her ears and left the room right after.
