(POV: Kit)
I sat down with caution, everyone was either looking at me with sorrow, disgust or afraid to lift their eyes from the table.
'Welcome to Orsibler.' The voice spoke again, 'let us feast.' Servants came from behind us and placed plates on the table. The food was revealed. Everyone's plate contained something different, to what it appeared, it was everyone's favourite food as all the girls around me smiled with delight.
'Hi, I'm Hattie.' The girl on my right spoke. She had blonde hair and a delicate face with dark green eyes. 'It's nice to meet you.'
'My name is Kit, nice to meet you too.' I replied with a slight smile.
We ate our meal and carried on with our small conversation. Soon fruits were laid out on the table for you to take as you please. Grapes, apples and strawberries lined the table, next to them pots filled with syrup, chocolate and sugar for covering them.
'I hope you enjoyed the food girls?' It was the king and he was the one who had spoken before. The room suddenly became quiet at his words. You could only hear shuffling feet which soon after stopped.
A few girls from wealthy families chanted back to him, 'Yes, your majesty thankyou.' They had obviously been planning this and were taught exactly how to act. The rest of the girls including me just smiled.
The king wore a mask, covering the top half of his face. It was black with gold flakes.
And he looked no more than 20 years old.
This man the king was only, what seemed four years older than me and was ruling a country.
'Now that you have all eaten, I will separate you into two groups,' the king announced, 'girls who have been deflowered and the girls who are still flowered. I will have my nurse come round and look at you.'
The noble girls went first all proud and mighty. They were pulled behind a curtain and reappeared two minutes later holding coloured cards.
Every girl went behind the curtain. And then it was Hattie's turn. She started breathing heavily. 'What are they going to do? What if we are in different groups? I don't even know what deflowered is.' She was panicking.
'Calm down. You will be fine and deflowered means whether you've laid with a boy or not. As long as you haven't we should be in the same group.' I said trying to reassure her. She seemed to calm down.
Hattie got pulled behind the curtain and reappeared. Now it was my turn.
