After a few days had passed, Cat got a call from Max that she ignored and continued with her life. Her only priority right now was to gain Luke's trust and love.
Her son was a magnificent human being, generous to a fault and charming to all. There were a few pockets of darkness on certain days which she knew would heal with enough time and patience. She had to erase the marks left on his soul by that monster.
She was in the kitchen baking chocolate chip cookies as promised to help Luke apologize to Mia. She was also totally not thinking about that heart-wrenching proposal and mind-bending kiss. Since Mia had stopped talking to him and loved sweet treats, her son had come up with a brilliant plan. She was smiling and bent over the oven when she noticed Luke stagger outside the hall of the kitchen.
"Luke, what happened? Why are you home so early?" She rushed over to prevent him from falling over.
