And so Jakob made his way to every group of Insects. Currently they were no Hive. There wasn´t this deep sense of kinship between each insect that was present in the last Hive. It was everyone for themselves.
Jakob then visited the Arachnoids which also went fairly well. They were currently trying their hardest to spin different shapes out of silk. They could be used for a lot of things. Beds, water containers, ropes, and even Weapons if build and wielded correctly. So a Hive could never have too much Spidersilk lying around.
The Bee´s and Butterflies were collecting fruits and other food items, while the grasshoppers did their own thing. These mischievous Insects generally were up to no good, but useful in battle.
After everything was clear and no big problems were showing themselves Jakob went back to building. The first few Insects would already sleep in the houses, him and his son as well.
When he came back to the camp his jaw dropped. Jakob saw Moon currently building the pillars for a house and it looked very sturdy. Jakob started sprinting while calling for his son:
"Moon, how did you manage to do that? I only showed you once and this is actually the hard part."
"Well, dad, it is not as hard as you always make it out to be. All you have to do is to consider the strength of the material and how well it sticks to each other and then carefully place the bricks. Easy as pie. Why did you even think that I couldn´t do this?"
Jakob's eyes widened. "Well, that is because it took me about 5 days to learn this technique properly. Let me examine this first."
Jakob then proceeded to go around the house, touching the different parts of the supporting frame, checking its sturdiness and if it was sticky enough. Nothing would be more embarrassing for a builder than having his house collapse while a new tenant was living in it.
After Jakob examined every part of the new structure he beamed with joy.
"Moon, you are really taking after your father. That was some amazing talent in building that you displayed. This is perfect actually. With your help we can finish this almost twice as fast."
"Aww dad. Thanks." Moon wasn´t used to having his father praise him. They didn´t have many interactions in the previous Hive due to him having a lot of work to do and Moon having to follow his mother quite often to socialize. It kind of surprised him, but he really enjoyed the work with his hands.
"Okay, let´s keep this up. We have a gathering between the newly appointed Chief of each species at sundown. I should be able to talk them into giving us another helper for the outer walls, then we could be almost 3 times as fast with the buildings as I first thought.
Tkzrrt is also keeping up very good with the brick production, he probably also asked someone for help seeing how quickly they stack up. He is good, don´t get me wrong, but even Tkzrrt couldn´t make this many bricks in a day."
Jakob went ahead and started working on a new building. If he hurried a bit he could finish another one until sundown and if his son made one they would have 7 already. That was a great number for day one.
Getting in the right groove to build Jakob finished his assembly swift, and even made a bit of a competition out of it with his son. Obviously, Jakob finished his small shed when Moon barely reached the halfway point. Still, it was great progress.
"Okay Moon, I am off to the meeting. We will take one of the huts for us first. I know it´s a bit selfish, but in these times you have to be a bit selfish." Jakob said while winking.
As he started walking away he still said the following: "Oh and try to get some more food for dinner. The Arachnoids also already made some water containers, see if you can grab one of those as well. It´s getting a bit tedious having always to walk a kilometer to drink some water."
With these words, Jakob started to make his way towards the hill. The sun was going down and it started to get colder. "We are in a little bit of a hurry but we should be fine. We are still in the middle of autumn. But it´s best to be safe rather than sorry."
While making his way over to the hill Jakob saw Bea going straight for their gathering place. She was quite happy when she saw him as well and came over.
"Hi, Jakob! Guess what. I was made Chief of the Bees and Butterflies. With that, I am Chief of the biggest group. Guess that makes me kind of the leader" Bea said with an impish smile on her face.
