Six years ago, when Emma first got her laptop, she spent endless time on it, checking out different Cosplayers. She learned that there were different types of Cosplayers. You had the Cosplayers that just bought a cheap costume of their favorite character to wear to the Comic-Con event, some homemade costumes which most were unique while others a complete disaster, then, of course, you had the well-renowned Cosplayers whose costumes were top notch. She noticed most of the top-notch Cosplayers only dressed the part but lacked in the actual acting of their character.
After learning about the different types of Cosplayers, Emma decided to give it a try. Cosplaying could be a way for her to hang out with her friends and maybe make some new ones. Being studios and hardworking at home only got her to be isolated at school since she rarely had time to hang out with everyone, or even when she did, she quickly learned that she didn't have anything in common with them. Nancy and Brittnay though were different. They actually got to know Emma and enjoyed her company as well as a free tutor and homework sometimes.
When Emma told her friends her idea they were ecstatic. Nancy and Brittnay have gone to a couple of Comic Cons and had tons of fun dressing up as well as checking out other costumes, items for sale and events held at the Comic Cons.
Emma didn't go to a Comic-Con event right away though. After ordering her very first outfit, she practiced how to act like her character from walking around to curtsying, even her speech. After all one must have proper manners and speak eloquently if to pass for a princess. That's right her first choice was none other than a princess.
Mind you, seeing others in a costume and putting on one yourself is totally different. Emma had googled how to do her hair and makeup and even give a little 'oomph' to her chest so she could fit it properly. When her friends saw her they were mind blown.
"Wow! A mini Cinderella!!" Brittnay exclaimed while Nancy whistled looking at her from top to bottom. "Emma, you look beautiful!! Like a real princess." Emma curtsied before saying, "thank you" ever so graciously. "Wow, you even act and talk like one, well I have never met one personally, but from what I have seen on tv you are totally a princess."
Both Nancy and Brittnay were stunned at what their shy, nerdy friend with her hair always tied back and thick glasses, well at school at least, at home she still had her hair tied back, but ditched the glasses.
Emma had her hair in a bun near the top of her head, along with a beautiful, sleeveless, light-blue glittery dress, with earrings and makeup that matched perfectly. Also, she definitely didn't act like some introvert, but a sophisticated sweet princess.
Overjoyed at their responses, Emma gave a beautiful heartfelt smile, thanking them for the compliments. She was happy that all of the efforts she had put into her costume as well as her character paid off. With that, they were all ready to go to Emma's very first Comic-Con event.
When they arrived Emma was a bit nervous but then took a deep breath before walking in reminding herself that she is no longer 'Emma, the shy nerd who only studies and wears homey clothing, but a beautiful princess.'
Usually, Nancy and Brittnay attended the Comic Cons by themselves, so when they arrived with a beautiful princess with them, the crowd grew curious as to whom she was. Most were doubtful it would be their bestie, Emma since she is soo shy, while everyone was dying to know who it was.
"Wow! Who's this princess?" A guy from their school asked. "You don't know? It is Emma! She's pretty right?" Looking from 'Cinderella' back to Brittnay who was dressed as a side character for a cartoon. Emma curtsied introducing herself as 'Cinderella' in such an eloquent way that gave the boy more reason to doubt that Cinderella was actually Emma.
People slowly began to gather around 'Cinderella' admiring her costume as well as her act. 'Cinderella' soon started getting compliments from those around her as well as dance invitations. Before long she became the talk of the whole event. Nancy and Brittnay were actually prepared for people to compliment their friend but didn't expect such a huge reaction that everyone was talking about the mysterious 'Cinderella' since when they would ask for her name she would only humbly say Cinderella. And when asked where she was from she would say, just like in the fairytales, "in a kingdom far far away." If her beautiful costume didn't grab your attention, then her acting would.
Just like her friends had said, Emma looked just like Cinderella and played the part well. For those who may not know Cinderella was portrayed as a teenager or young adult in the Disney movie, so naturally, despite being a bit short Emma looked, of course with the extra 'oomph' she put in her chest area, she looked and acted much older than her age. It was like the music and laughter had her in a trance and when the noise dimmed she awoke, quickly pushing the older man away, apologizing before leaving. The man thought that this was all a part of the 'Cinderella' act so he followed her. He quickly caught up to her and held her shoulders, bending over to speak in her ear, "You want to go to a hotel or my place, I ...." Before he could finish speaking, Emma took his shoulder off of her and looked straight into his eyes, all eloquence replaced with seriousness, "I am just a regular Cosplayer here to enjoy the event. I was not informed that people would harass me or I would not have come." Hearing the word 'harass' made the older man realize he had gone too far. He pulled back his arm and apologized explaining that he had misunderstood the situation. He also explained that her acting was top notch just like her costume before he gave her a slight bow as she curtsied and they went their separate ways. She hastily searched for her friends and they all left. Emma explained what happened and that she would NEVER cosplay as a woman again.
