Chapter 29 - Chapter Twenty-Nine: Another Hurdle

Seeping into my room before eventually flooding the entire room, the sun's light shone bright into my eyes. Moaning before turning, I opened my eyes to a suprise. Anne was laying in my bed with me.

'You know your bed is in the other room. Or does T secretly snore?'

'Remember what I said before our rescue op for Ruby,' she rolled out the bed fully dressed, 'And I was waiting for you to wake up stupid,' she slipped on mittens.

Thinking back to that night, I could recall Anne saying she had something to tell me afterwards. That moment never came. 'I actually do. What did you want to tell me?'

She yanked me out of bed and into her, 'Do you like me in the slightest!'

My face blushed, 'W-w-what's that suppose to mean,' I said sheepishly looking away.

'Then it's settled! Get dress!'

'Why,' I freed myself from her grasp.

'We'll use this freetime to go on a date. Just me and you,' her smile was welcoming.

Examining her lips, it drew me in for lustful thoughts, 'Uh, s-s-sure,' I said nervously as she left the room.

Walking out the warehouse, I fixed my jacket and pulled on my mittens. Coming from behind me I felt intrusion.

'Hello,' Anne had wrapped her arms around my waist.

'Is this necessary?'

'If I want you to love me, I gotta make you fall for my charms,' she came up to my ear and bit on it gently before pulling away, 'You don't think I'm not lovable, no?'

'Anne,' I released myself from her grasp, 'It's not that I don't feel for you or amy of thay but..,' I looked at the ground blankly, 'But don't act seductively, just be yourself?'

She slapped my back, 'If that's all, then let's get this dated started!'

I laughed, 'Whatever you say silly,' snow was dropping before us.

'Also, what are we doing?'

I froze. She asked me out but I had to think of something. Typical.

Before long, we were in a jewelry store.

'You have money, from where,' Anne was touching me all over.

'Could you not? And it's what the government sends us since they don't know our situation. I just take your money and if you need anything that's what I've been giving you.'

'Even in California?'

'Yes, even then.'

'Woah,' she clasped her cheeks.

'Anywho,' I grabbed her hand and took her over to a set of necklaces and pointed to one in particular, 'You see that necklace?'

'Yeah? What about it.'

'What's that symbol?'

She tilted her head, 'It's just a heart. Are you trying to say "And it's to represent my heart that loves you." Are you?'

'Uh no. I was gonna say to "My saving grace,"' I grabbed someone to buy the necklace and carry out the store. Outside now, I unhooked it. Putting my arms wrapping around her neck and clipping the necklace back together, I pulled my hands away. 'To my saving grace.'

'What do you mean by that by the way?'

I smirked, 'Nothing in particular,' I grabbed her name as we left the shop.

Walking along the sidewalk, We held eachothers hands. Even now, we weren't, and still aren't, dating but we would always hold eachothers hands. I guess we grew so used to it, that it just stuck.

My chest grew wet and hot.

'Zen? Why'd you stop,' Anne tugged at my arm as I stood there.

Placing my free hand on the wound, my hand was touching something hot n sticky.

Looking at me, Anne saw the wound, 'Zen?! Zen!,' she moved her hand onto the wound, 'Just regenerate it! It shouldn't be a problem.'

'It's-' I fell to my knees.

'Zen!'

People began to circle us.

Whoever stabbed me knew about my regenerative abilities. Whatever they stabbed me with stopped me from healing myself. The wound cut was deep. This person had to be a trained assassin due to how quick they moved without me even noticing.

'Hos....,' my vision was blacking out, 'Hos-hospital,' I fainted.

Opening my eyes, I pulled myself up. Looking around my room. I was in the safehouse. Looking down at my wound, it was patched up. Touching it, I felt a stinging sensation jolt from the wound throughout my body. It's been sometime since I've had a wound that's stayed wounded for long. If gods can die, than I should have not excluded myself from harms way. I grew less cautious in certain environments because of my sense of false security. Walking around with the mindset that I could never be killed. Coming into the room, Lady Sandra sat towards the end of the bed opposite from where I sat.

'How you feeling?'

'Like I'd been shot.'

'Have you been shot before?'

'Many times.'

'Sounds rough,' she sounded slightly sarcastic.

'Well you know, some of those people who shot me were your gu-' I held my chest in pain.

She sighed, 'Try not to get so worked up,' she poked my wound making me flinch, 'It'll backfire on you,' she grinned.

'And you wonder why I can't trust you,' I laid back down.

'I don't really doubt your suspicions; but I'm also not wrong,' she stood up, 'Anywho, I've got work to do, so try not to kill yourself.'

I heard the door close as the sounds of her heels sounded as though they were growing quieter and quieter as she grew further and further away. The pain I felt was not at all favorable, but it was necessary to feel nonetheless. If I had gone with the idea I was immortal, it sure would have gotten me killed in the end.

I heard the door creek open, 'Hey,' it was Yui's voice.

'Hello.'

'How's your wound?'

'It's fine,' I lied as I laid there.

'Well I got some good news,' she sat on my legs.

'Wha-'

'I got a lead on who wounded you,' she gabe me a laptop with some photos of a guy and extra information, 'Some assassin who'd been caught for an attempt of murder on the president. Now he was executed since they wanted to intorgate him for info on who hired him and why.'

'Well that went well,' I examined the mans tattooed face, 'What happened though?'

'Someone broke him out.'

'And how is he connected to me?'

She gave me my phone, 'When you went unconscious, this came in.'

It was a text message sent to me with the timeframe being at 1:46 PM: when I was rendered unconscious. 'Did you read it.'

'Of course I did, and you should too.'

Opening it, it read, "Hello Zen. This message is being addressed towards you. I'd like to play a game with you. Do you think you can last till the very end? >:D."

'A game with my life? I still don't see how this is connected to that ex-assassin?'

'The phone that this message was sent from was dropped by you and when testing the finger prints, they belonged to him,' she tapped the screen of the laptop, 'Jamison Hughes.'

'The assassin.'

'And the first part of the game is to not let him kill you.'

Laying their, I'm troubled by whoever is playing this "game" with me.
