Chereads / Eclipse: Showdown of Assassins / Chapter 77 - Chapter 76 - Angelic Ninjutsu

Chapter 77 - Chapter 76 - Angelic Ninjutsu

Ninjas are among the most popular types of mercenaries known from Japan. They've become so popular that their stealthy nature seems to be contradictory. However, their skills are no joke, and many types of media accurately portray this. Known for their vast array of tools, their agility and speed, and their own misdirection, they seem the most fitting for the assassin underworld.

Angel was born into the Virtus Imperium, having been fascinated with the ninja arts all his life. Even from a young age, he dressed up and trained himself in what he believed to be the way of the ninja. His obsession reached the point that he believed he would be able to bring upon civil justice to his city. Stopping several criminals at only the age of sixteen, Angel's skill seemed like the real deal. That was until he was stopped in the middle of one of his civil justice missions. A man slammed a riot shield in front of Angel, shocking him.

???: Hey! I don't ever remember allowing a ninja into the legal force!

Angel's thoughts: Isn't this guy part of the Imperium's own army? What's he doing here?

???: I've heard plenty of stories about this town's very own angelic ninja! So you must be the kid that's been running around here!

Angel: I've just been taking care of the criminals that the police force are too slow to deal with.

???: Hahaha! You're a bright one! I'm going to need to ask you to join me back to the capital! Someone wishes to speak with you!

Angel: The capital? No thanks, guy. I got this town to take care of.

???: I had a feeling you'd say that! Prepared for this!

The man slammed his shield down, Angel hearing a spraying noise fill the air as the man put on a mask. Angel stepped back before feeling his head get light.

Angel: W… What the...?

Angel fell unconscious, eventually waking up at the capital of the country. The man with the shield was nowhere to be seen, but a man with long hair walked before him. Angel could already tell who the man was, smiling under his scarf as the man reached his hand out.

Magnus jumped back, pulling the ninja star out of his shoulder before grabbing onto his sword with both hands again. Angel brought his hands together once again before running forward and jumping into the air. His hands moved behind his shoulders before a rainstorm of ninja stars ran down on Magnus. Magnus focused his gaze before swinging his sword fiercely, knocking each of the ninja stars away.

Magnus' thoughts: I need to read the direction of each, but I need to make sure I know where he is next. Meaning he should be…

Magnus swung around, his sword moving with such speed before connecting with Angel's kunai. Angel's weapon got pushed away as Magnus continued his strikes. Angel's movements becoming harder and harder to read.

Magnus' thoughts: His footwork is making it hard to read his next move. I need to focus.

Magnus came to a stop as Angel took a large jump back, opening the distance between the two. Angel reached behind him before throwing out a flurry of ninja stars in Magnus' direction. Magnus let out a sigh before swinging, the focus of his eyes unwavering. The audience stared in shock, watching as Magnus slowly closed the distance between himself and Angel.

Shizu: He stopped reading the individual stars and decided to read Angel's own throws to predict where to attack.

Simon: He's changing his own focus of foresight. That's amazing.

Shizu: This is exactly how he works. It takes him a while, but once he starts to analyze the situation, Magnus can truly be a fearsome foe. Angel will need to take the initiative soon, or Magnus is going to catch up.

Angel gritted his teeth, pulling out two kunai before charging directly at Magnus. Magnus tightened the grip on his sword, watching Angel intensely. Angel immediately went for a jump above Magnus, only to see Magnus' blade aim directly for him. Angel blocked the sword with his kunai before pushing himself away, Magnus stumbling from Angel's weight coming off the blade.

Angel's thoughts: He read where I was going to jump too? This guy is getting better.

Magnus looked in shock in Angel's direction. Zachary and Zenzo leaned forward. The referee rubbed his eyes before looking back in the ring. Angel moved forward, yet there seemed to be another version of himself just behind. A trail of Angels moved forward as Magnus' eyes darted around.

Zachary: What's this? Has Angel developed the ability to multiple himself?

Zenzo: I can't believe my eyes!

Gonzalez: He's using his ninja footwork.

Remy: Do ninjas really have footwork like that?

Gonzalez: Not really. That's just how he refers to it as. But his footwork is very precise. Meant to throw off those with foresight as each copy of himself has an equal presence. While it won't work on someone like me, it might be troublesome on someone like Magnus there.

Remy: So another victory for us is guaranteed!

Magnus swung his sword, phasing through one of the clones before being punched across the face. Magnus stumbled, swinging his sword once again. The sword phased through another set of clones before taking a stab to the right shoulder. Angel's fingers dug into the wound left by the ninja star, forcing Magnus to drop his sword. Magnus dropped to his knees in pain, Angel kicking away the sword before staring down at him.

Angel: You put on a real good show, buddy. You helped me look good, so stay down.

Angel pulled out his kunai, aiming it at Magnus' back before bringing it down with great force. Magnus whipped around, meeting Angel's kunai with his knife.

Magnus: I was able to guide you to this spot. The place you made me drop my knife.

Angel: What the?

Magnus kicked out Angel's legs from under him, bringing Angel down to the ground. Magnus' right hand quickly reached down, pulling out another knife from his pocket which he quickly jabbed into Angel's side. Angel let out a scream before pushing Magnus away. Magnus quickly jumped back up to his feet, bruises clearly visible on his face. Angel stood up, pulling the knife out of his side and throwing it behind him.

Angel: You think you were clever with that?

Magnus: It did hurt you after all. I plan on winning.

Angel gritted his teeth before entering his footwork once again.

Angel: Angelic Ninjutsu - Clone Works

The clones followed behind Angel once again, circling around Magnus. Magnus clutched his knife tightly, sensing around him before smiling. Magnus' knife and Angel's kunai collided, both fighters pushing off one another. Blood dripped from Angel's side, Angel staring down at his side.

Angel's thoughts: Could it be my blood that's letting him read my footwork? Or could it be something else?

Magnus huffed and puffed, his body aching. Angel's strikes were heavy, and the second strike to the shoulder had slightly dazed him. But he held his ground, clutching his knife tightly as he watched Angel closely. Both fighters bolted towards the other, their weapons colliding with sparks flying off of them. The audience cheered as Zachary got closer to his mic.

Zachary: Now this is what you call a match! These two are truly showing off what it means to be a ninja and an assassin!

Zenzo: But who will be the one to come out on top?

Angel swept his leg across Magnus', knocking him off balance. Magnus immediately grabbed onto Angel's gi, pulling him to the ground. As both hit the ground, Angel pushed himself back to his feet with one arm. He widened his stance, getting low as Magnus picked himself back up. Placing his kunai back in his pocket, he let out a huff of air.

Angel: Angelic Ninjutsu - Devastation

Angel bolted at Magnus at full speed, both fists vertical of one another, slamming directly into his chest. Magnus got sent flying back, skidding across the ring floor as Angel came to a stop. Magnus laid flat out on the floor, his knife laying in his hand.

Zenzo: What a powerful strike!

Zachary: Could this be the end for Magnus?!

Magnus' eyes opened slowly, feeling the pain envelop his chest.

Magnus' thoughts: That blow was powerful. This ninjutsu stuff is just absurd… but I'm slowly getting a grasp on it.
