"Luca, have you ever seen what's going on there? Why are you still sitting here?"
Raising his eyes, Luca said, "What am I going to do? Go to them?"
"There are too many of them. Where's Professor? Why don't you call him? Maybe they will listen to him and calm down."
"Okay, I'll call him. Also, lock the doors."
That morning, I woke up from a call from my phone.
When I answered the phone, I heard Luca's slightly confused voice.
"What happened? Did you find Leon?"
"What? No! Professor, come to my office. Although no, tell me where you are and I will take you."
"What happened?"
"Read the news."
"Why does everyone tell me that? Okay, I'll read the news. I'll write you my address. I don't live where I used to live before."
"Wait for me."
As soon as I started reading the news, I immediately heard a noise coming from afar.
Still sitting on the bed, I gathered my thoughts and immediately felt that something was happening.
I quickly put on my shirt and pants, my shoes, and I ran out of the room, but I immediately came across David.
"Professor, I was right all this time," he said.
"David, you always act like you know everything. Maybe that is enough," I said, no longer able to listen to his overly confident remarks.
Grabbing my shoulder, he looked at me seriously, and I realized that he was not my enemy.
"Professor, you need to be careful. You gave people a lot of freedom. Let me go with you."
I didn't have time to talk to him because Luca started calling.
And in the end, he followed me.
When I opened the gate, I came across Joseph.
He looked scared.
"Skyemoone, you shouldn't go there. I was in town. And you won't believe what's going on there," he said, waving his arms.
The next second, Luca, at a fast speed, drove up to the gate.
"Skyemoone, we don't have time!" he exclaimed.
"I'll go with you!"
"No, Joseph! You have to stay here. And if anything happens, call the police."
"Police?! Is there anyone else working there?"
"Who are you?"
"This is David. Let's go."
"What did you do here? Who are all these people?"
"I'll tell you later. Would you rather tell me what it all means?"
"Soon you'll see it with your own eyes."
Once in the car, I suddenly felt dizzy. Covering my face with my hand, I leaned against the seat and tried to breathe calmly.
"Professor, what's wrong with you?" David asked.
"Nothing."
"I don't know what happened to them. They changed so quickly."
"Let's think, what are we going to do to calm everyone down?"
"Who are you? And why do you care?"
"I can't care. I've always warned you. Can you see it now? What's this?"
I looked out the window and noticed a crowd of people. But instead of happy faces, they had angry and tired facial expressions.
Crowds of people heading somewhere shouted words. And in some places, right on the ground, I noticed a few of my books.
"I don't know what's going on. But when I listened to another story of my client, someone suddenly broke the window and then it all started," Luca said.
But even if a slight fright was heard in his voice, at the same time, the expressions of his face were quite happy.
"It's all my fault. I didn't have to write a book like that. I didn't know that everything would change. I didn't know that."
"Professor, don't blame yourself."
"Professor, you're sorry, but your new friend makes me a little nervous."
"You're unnerving me, too. Who are you anyway? You're a real robber. You're probably happy with yourself and the fact that you took public money to give it to everyone."
"Stop!" I cried, and it was probably the first time I raised my voice.
I watched people go in different directions. And I was wondering if they had achieved everything they wanted, what they needed now?
Luca stopped the car and said, "Get out of the car."
"Where do you want to take me?"
"No one should see you."
"What? But they're waiting for me! I'm responsible for everything that's going on right now."
"Professor, we don't have time to be heroic."
"And what do you suggest I do?"
"You need to get out of here. Come on, I've got something for you."
Standing near the abandoned houses, I looked around.
Strong wind was raging everywhere. And somewhere in the distance, I could hear thunder.
"Professor, you need to leave," Luca said, and grabbing my hand, wanted to lead me somewhere.
But I stopped him.
"I can't leave. I have to stop this. And understand."
"What don't you understand? People, they're just tired of happiness. They're tired of money. And now, for everything that's happened to them, they want to blame you. Trust me, you shouldn't go to them."
As I pushed his hand away, I quickly headed towards the apartment building, and the voices could be heard.
The first drops of rain touched my hair. The birds stopped singing. The tall houses and empty windows reminded me of something sinister.
For the first time, the rain and the sound of thunder seemed to me a kind of frightening sign.
And my intuition told me I had to leave this place as soon as possible.
But people's voices were pulling me forward. And soon, I was already standing in front of everyone.
No one saw me at first.
I was standing in front of a whole crowd of disgruntled people. I wanted to make it clear that I was here, but Luca was ahead of me.
"Professor!" he exclaimed as if he wanted to present me solemnly in front of everyone.
And here I am, standing in front of everyone. The whole audience belongs to me.
As I stood and looked at each person, the rain began to rage along with strong gusts of wind.
Nature gave the situation an epic beginning.
"It's Professor!" someone shouted.
Luca, ran up to me and said, "Get out of here."
"Professor! What have you done to us?! What have you turned us all into?"
It was the first question asked by a woman.
And I knew right away what they all wanted.
"It's all your fault! Your book, your thoughts, it's all taken our lives!"
"Yes, he's right! Professor, if it wasn't for you, we'd be living peacefully!"
"What's next? Tell us what to do next? Happiness, money, everyone has it! So, what do we do next?"
"You have made money no longer valued. Look around! What kind of world is this where everyone is equal?"
"You have made idlers out of us, who only can do nothing. And how I didn't realize right away that your book is the real evil!"
"He took our lives! He must answer for his actions!"
"Before, we had a quiet life! I used to feel more alive than I am now. They're all right! You and your dreams have robbed us of our sense of life."
The clouds were thickening and soon, the lightning flashed brightly.
And only the thunder was able to calm everyone down.
"I told you it was going to happen," David said.
"Why are you silent? Don't you have anything to say?! Tell us what to do next. How to live?"
I took a step forward, and instead of answering, I asked the question, "Are you unhappy?"
"Of course, they are unhappy! Or did you think we were easy to fool? How are we going to be the same now? Give us our old lives back! With these dreams, what has a man become? And what example do we set for children? It's his fault! He made everyone think that happiness is about money!"
"Isn't that what you always wanted? Haven't you been unhappy working and doing things you don't like? You've always talked about what you dream of and always mentioned your broken hopes! So, what has become now?! You have everything each of you dreamed of. Money, coziness, your life. And what do you want now?"
"You've turned us into nothing. Just look at how we spend our days! And that's what you call progress!"
"You've always asked for it! So why now, do you want to go back?"
"No one asked for such a life! It's all you and your book!"
"We used to have a life!"
"Well, in that case, go back to your work! Why are you standing here? You just can't stand the basic happiness!" David exclaimed and stepped forward toward the crowd.
"Happiness? And that's what you call happiness? I've never felt more miserable!"
"Professor, we better leave. They'll calm down soon."
"Tell me, what does a human want? They had everything," I said and looked at Luca.
But suddenly, a loud shot echoed in my mind.
I turned to see where that sound came from, and all of a sudden, I felt pain.
The pain that had been in my soul all this time suddenly turned into pain, which was caused by a fresh wound.
I didn't realize right away that the bullet hit me. But when I realized this, my legs suddenly could no longer hold the weight of my body.
All thoughts shifted, voices and screams sounded unpleasant, and this terrible feeling, as if I was drowning, made me fall.
A long time ago, I walked under such a beautiful rain. I used to be a professor at the university.
Until I saw those green eyes.
Leon, will he never come again?
"Skyemoone! Can you hear me? Call an ambulance!"
It was Luca's voice, and then I suddenly heard a series of gunshots.
Did people start it all? Because of what? Have they become unhappy again? What about dreams?
"Open your eyes! Look at me!"
It was Ikuta. I was so glad to see him.
"Where have you been?"
"Call an ambulance!"
"You can't call an ambulance! It's hard to find doctors now. Nobody works."
"Can you help? If not, go!"
"Skye, hold on. The wound is not serious. Everything's going to be all right. Just breathe and look at me."
"Ikuta, how are your children? Where are they?"
"They're fine. It's all right."
I knew that soon, the forces would leave me, but nevertheless, I wanted to talk.
And as I spoke, Ikuta's face suddenly turned into Leon's face.
In front of me were these dark green eyes. They were until darkness, and then silence, wrapped my mind.
