Chapter 19 - Business Time

ELORA

I lay on my bed, staring at nothing. It's morning again and I do not have anything to do, except for the usual routine which I am sick of.

How long will I be grounded? I wondered.

It's past a week and my mom is not saying anything about it. She did not call me either and would not pick up my calls or return them.

Does she know that I still exist? Or she has forgotten about me completely? I wonder. Or she has decided to be cold-hearted towards me and punish me further?

She has not visited me since I got here and it doesn't seem like she will be visiting anytime soon. It doesn't seem like I will be free soon either.

I groaned, throwing one of my pillows across the room.

I hate being grounded!

"Can I get my freedom, please!" I yelled at no one.

I want to be free again. I want to visit so many places and do the things I love to do!

I miss going shopping; though my mom never liked it. She has always wanted me to earn every penny I spend.

Why should I do that when my dad is wealthy?

She has always found a way to make me leave the house and does not hesitate to make me lose my sleep and that is the reason I loved the confinement, at first.

I love being indoors doing whatever I want without being told what to do and what not to do. I can also sleep as much as I want, but right now I feel frustrated being confined to a specific place. I had thought it would last for at most two days but my mom seems to be forgetting that I am her only daughter who loves her freedom.

I groan. I need my freedom!

Ariana who is supposed to talk to my mom that I have been in confinement for a long time and should be let out, has been busy with work and does not have time for herself, let alone me!

I do not have friends to visit me and Orion isn't an option for a person to chat with. I would rather stay indoors than make him my chat buddy. We have nothing in common and we fight at every chance we get. I have been trying to avoid him lately.

I find him weird though Ariana doesn't think that way. I have heard him so many times in his room, talk to himself. He acts strange too; like someone who doesn't belong here. He also asked me to help him out with his studies and ended up bringing me manuals.

Who needs someone to help him or her study manuals? I have never had that before.

I stand up from the bed and peep out through the window.

What a nice view. I thought. I wish I could watch them from outside not from the window.

I turn to look at the door. There is no point leaving my room today. I can't walk past the house, and might only end up seeing Orion which I dread right now.

Picking my phone up, I placed a call to my mom, hoping she would pick up this time and surprisingly she did.

"When would you stop buzzing my phone with calls" she yells and I find myself smiling so hard.

I have missed that voice so much.

"Mom do you not miss me?" I ask and I can hear her scoff.

"I had a full week of fun with no worries about what you might be doing"

"Come on, mom. I know you miss me"

"Is this the reason you called me? I am hanging up the phone and don't you dare think that I have forgotten about you being grounded. I know and I have my eyes everywhere. Be careful!"

"Mom, you can't keep me grounded for too long. It's a week already"

"I do not care! Do not leave the house or I will send you back to jail"

"Mom, you know I can call the cops on you for treating me badly" I mumble. "You should..."

"Please do and make sure that the cops are ready to feed and clothe you"

"It's not like you're the one doing that. My dad is the one responsible for my upkeep" I mumble.

"I heard you. If you do not want me to tell your dad to stop giving you any money and allow you to take care of yourself, you had better listen to me and be a good girl. I will think about lifting your curfew soon but the moment you try anything funny, I am locking you up" she says and ends the call.

I sigh. Not like I do not want to leave the house or I can't, but I do not dare to. I fear that my mother could show up at any time and meet me outside the house; she will make sure to lock me up for good this time.

I pick my laptop up and begin to surf the internet. A picture catches my attention and I open the link immediately.

"Would you like to be a spy? Contact us now!" I read out.

Reading out all the requirements, I smile.

This doesn't look bad. It will be better than working in cafes and getting fired over little things.

I decided to fill up the form and wait for the response. There was a part that asked for a fighting video. I guess they want to know our fighting skills.

Luckily I had learned a few fighting skills. I record myself fighting and send it along with the form. Rubbing my palms together, I let out a sigh.

I will be waiting for an hour to get a reply. I pick my phone up to check the time. It's 8:30 a.m.; Ariana should have left the house. It's also the time for Orion to take his morning coffee. He has never missed out the time and I wonder why.

He takes about an hour before he finishes it up and takes about ten minutes to clear up the table and clean up his cup.

I close up the laptop in front of me and head to the bathroom to take my bath. Coming out of the bathroom, my phone rings and I rush to pick it up.

"Yes. I will be willing to do it. I have someone. Thanks. I will get back to you"

The call ends and I scream. I just got a job!

I will be needing an extra hand and Orion seems to be the only one available.

But how will I convince Orion to come with me?

And I need to be sure Ariana will not be home that day. I do not have to worry about my mom. She won't visit at night and she doesn't visit a place like a club.

I sigh, putting my clothes on.

I need to see Orion before he returns to his room. I check the time.

If I leave my room now, I should be down before he leaves the kitchen.
