My aunt Ouyang Xinyu and I are having our dinner at her small house in the Human Town. I took a few bites of my food, but I don't have much appetite to eat today. For some reason, I've thinking about
my parents today.
I know she hates it asking about them, but I can't help it
"You know, aunt sometimes I wonder about..... things." I said.
"Things like what, Weiyi?" aunt asked.
"Like.... did my mother look like you?" I said.
" Oh no! Your mother was very beautiful. All of the people adored her" she said with a smile.
"They must've been sad when she died. We're there a lot of people at the funeral?" I asked.
Ouyang Xinyu stands and busies herself in the kitchen.
"The funeral? That was so long ago. I don't really remember." she replied.
I asked shockingly " you don't remember your own sister's funeral?"
"Weiyi, why do you want to dwell on such unpleasant things?" aunt asked little loudly.
I can understand she is angry from her tone, but I couldn't stop myself from asking.
"I just wanna know. I don't even know how my parents died." I said in low voice.
"Did Demi killed them? Maybe a werewolf or vampire?" I asked in gloomy tone.
Ouyang Xinyu picks up the milk can.
'She's going to ignore my questions yet again' as I thought, I sigh.
" I need to go and get the milk from Grandpa Ling before the sun sets completely". Ouyang Xinyu said, as she leaves and closed the door behind her.
'why is the death of my parents is such big secret? what really happened to them exactly? Why Aunt always avoid this topic and never want to tell me anything? It makes no sense!'
I'm feeling frustrate thinking about this.
'I think I need to go and get some fresh air to calm myself' as I thought and go out.
I walk towards the river that was located little far from my house with a water container.
I wade carefully into the river with my bucket. I look all around into the forest on the other side of the river.
'I hope nothing is in there'
I said to my childhood friend, " Zhen'er, watch out for Demis for me while Im filling my bucket"
"You know Demis never come into the human village" Su Zhen'er replied.
"You can't be certain. I heard that they like roaming all over, particularly werewolves. Did you read the book Forest of Monster? It's written on the book, Demis like forest. They hide there to capture us human.... to eat us" I whispers after coming little close to her.
"Don't talk of such things Weiyi ! You know it scares me." She yell at me as I laugh at her.
I bend over to fill my bucket. Then I go and sit on the edge of the water next to Su Zhen'er.
I put my feet in the water just as she's doing.
" I read in the book, the Demis live in the Misty Forest and Mountains in the Silverland. They go into the human village to steal people..... they especially like young girls like us. The vampires suck the blood from our bodies. They bites our necks and suck and sucks....."
"Don't Weiyi! I don't want to hear that. you're scaring me. I will never leave the human village" She covers her ears as she start yelling at me.
"Only fool would ever travel to the Silverland. You might come across a zombie and they'll just tear your arm off and start eating you. It's so horrible!" I replied without any expression.
" Do you think a Demi killed your parents?" Zhen'er asked.
" I don't know, I just guess it's them. Maybe that's why Aunt don't like to speak about it". I said.
" If it was me, I would never speak about it either. The Demis are vicious." Zhen'er said angrily.
" Aunt must've traumatized." I replied sadly.
Both of us fell in silent. I can hear howling of wind it's so silent surrounding, it looks little scary.
"It's getting dark, let's go back." finally I broke the silence.
We pick up our buckets and head back to the village.
Suddenly, Zhen'er spoke, " I'm sorry, Weiyi. I made you upset by reminding of your parents." with a concern look.
" It's okay, I'm fine. It's just I wish to know more about my parents but it's all such mystery." I replied her with a forced smile.
I'm cleaning up the house, when Ouyang Xinyu arrives.
'What happened? She looks so upset. I don't want any bad news.' I start to wondering.
I asked with concern, " Aunt, Is something's wrong?"
Aunt asked me to sit down, as I sat down .
" Weiyi, there's something I must have to tell you about." she said.
I'm scared to hear that, what she's going to tell me. I saw she's holding some letters in her hand.
I thought, ' What could they be?'
"What is it, Aunt? You're scaring me." I said.
Ouyang Xinyu replied, " I need to tell you something rather upsetting. But please, Weiyi, you know that's all of this was for your own good. We only want you to be safe and what was best for you."
"What? What are you talking about? Tell me.... please." I asked worried. I have premonition that something big gonna happened and I'm scared.
