Chapter 13
ARLAN BARDOT
I did not have words for how I felt at that moment when I heard a startled yelp and turned in surprise at the intruder into my shop.
I had seen her then- Rae.
She had looked so torn, between running for her life and stepping forward, and for a few seconds I had been stuck again by her beauty, her eyes, every damned thing about her. I had been struck into silence, watching her and committing everything about her to memory.
And then when she took a step closer to me, fingers worrying each other, I had frozen, sitting so still that my breath came in very slow bursts. I was literally a statue as I watched her take another step closer to me.
She looked so much like a frightened bird. I was so scared that she would run so fast if I lifted even a finger, and so I had sat as still as I could, watching the frightened and traumatized bird slowly make her way over to me.
