"It's impossible. My brother can't be—" Hera said as she looked around her before sitting on one of the tree trunks. This couldn't be happening to her, and this couldn't be what she had fought so hard to come to. This is not how their family would end.

On the other hand, Mikhail was still trying to process it all. He could see his sister's disbelief. However, he seemed out of it. Mikhail had never taken a no from his sister, especially when it came to them and their bond, but his current resolve was a shock even to him.
"Look at me!" Mikhail said to his sister, but Hera Rykov didn't want to look at her brother for the first time, and it wasn't because she was ashamed, and it was because there was nothing to look at.
Whoever this was, whatever this was, that wasn't her brother, and yet somehow it believed that it was her brother. How the hell was she supposed to process all of that?
