Four years ago...
Spinel swallowed nervously as he stood at the wall of the sorority house, where he drank from the punch he had and watched drunk kids make out and dance. He was used to this sight, always a wallflower, and unwelcome is how he felt at every party, despite being a popular student.
Spinel hoped to be a business owner one day. He wanted to help people start their own businesses, as a way to help the community. To do more than his father ever really had.
Spinel took a sip of his punch, tugging at the collar of his T-shirt, swallowing nervously. He couldn't help noticing a guy who was almost pretty, one he had seen in almost all of his classes.
John Collins. The guy was nice enough, and popular with other guys. He was also known for being what girls called a whore. He liked to sleep around with men.
But Spinel couldn't stop seeing him as incredibly lonely. It was almost a sad sight, the look in John's eyes. They seemed dull and flat, lifeless, as the young vampire chatted with the guys he hung out with.
Spinel decided he should go and talk to John. He wanted to see something. If it led to sex, so be it, he decided. He just wanted to get to know John, the popular but lonely boy.

Now...
Spinel woke up with a start next to his girlfriend, whose smooth body was curled into his, her barbed red tail curled up behind her. She snored gently, and Spinel kissed Missy's forehead, getting out of their bed to get dressed.
He looked at his pale naked body, slender but slightly toned, his ears slightly pointed to his elf heritage, his iris' red and sclera black due to his demon heritage. Spinel felt slightly tired still, but as he put on his clothes, he felt a purpose. His job was to help others, and nobody could change that.
Spinel was buttoning his shirt as Missy sat up in the bed. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and walked over to where Spinel was and hugged him from behind, her breasts pressing against his back. She gently kissed his neck, and he pulled her hand to his mouth to kiss it. She hugged him a moment longer, before letting go and grabbing some clothes to change into, getting dressed hurriedly.
This is my life now, Spinel thought. So why do I still feel that I'm missing something.

Mike awoke next to Chloe, drowsy from the night of passion they had had before this morning. His legs hurt, and his arms shook, but he was able to quickly dress without a problem. Mike kissed Chloe on the forehead and wrote her a note, before grabbing his keys and leaving.
Mike made it to the office building of Spinel Tingler Solutions early, and he waited for his boss to come.
Spinel soon appeared, and he opened the doors, a look of discontentment on his face, of all things.
What happened to him? Mike thought. Lover's quarrel?
"It wasn't a lover's quarrel." Spinel said, which implied he'd read Mike's thoughts. Mike swallowed nervously.
"Sorry, Spinel," stammered Mike, and he followed his boss into the building, the doors closing behind him.

Missy sat behind her desk, the phones she manned as a secretary unusually quiet this morning. She was still a bit sore from the sex she and Spinel had last night. He had stuffed her like a Thanksgiving turkey, the memory of the pleasure still fresh, making her blush slightly.
Spinel... Missy loved working with her boyfriend. She had spent most of college mooning over him as he had been dating a guy named John, so she only got the chance to confess her love a few months after he and Spinel broke up.
Missy had decided that she would protect Spinel from being hurt again, and she knew she was doing a good job, because they were flowing better than pissing with an erection.
Suddenly, Ben appeared in a thin veil of dark mist, his tall figure draped in his usual white suit and spider bowtie. He smiled his pointed smile and spoke.
"My dear brunette, where may I find my son and brother?" Ben said casually.
"In the office, as usual. They're busy, so don't waste their time, sir." Missy responded, mentally flipping the annoying bastard off.
The tall man walked into the office she mentioned, and she felt tense as he passed.
"Damn motherfucker." Missy grumbled, and she tried to shake off her tension from her shoulders.

"Spinel, my boy!"
Spinel immediately knew it was his dad just by how the phrase was said: like a joke. Everything was a joke to his father. It was a pain in the ass. Spinel forced a grin.
"What do you need, Dad?" Spinel asked.
"Help!" Ben stated simply. "I have a date with a certain mister, and I know you have experience with men and women alike."
Spinel swallowed. He had known his dad was dating John when they'd appeared at the barbecue together yesterday.
Don't date your son's ex, you sick fuck! Spinel thought, mentally stabbing his father, but he spoke calmly aloud, "Just be yourself. That's all I can say."
Ben nodded, noticing his son's sudden change in aura. Is he mad at me? Ben thought. He pushed the thought quickly away. Of course he isn't!
"I'll see you later, son!" Ben said, shaking his son's head and casting a look at Mike, promptly walking out the door to the office and vanishing in a cloud of dark mist.
"Damn." Spinel muttered, and he dug his nails into his desk, leaving marks.

Ben swallowed as he walked down the streets, his usual smile faltering slightly. He had had enough of feeling like a bad father, but he could never tell Spinel how he felt since he wasn't that close to his son. They had always been distant, ever since his mother died.
At least he had a father figure in Mike, who had practically raised Spinel as he grew up. Ben was secretly jealous, and he blamed his depression and grief for getting in the way of a good relationship with his son.
But since Spinel had grown into a fine adult, he knew it was all for the best.
Ben continued his walk, breathing in the nice breezy air.
Everything was going to be fine.
