Chapter 3 - A Letter of Confession

Classes.

It should really be followed by "If you or a loved one has been forced to labor through this, you may be entitled to financial compensation."

My scholarship for basketball requires me to attend classes and keep my grades up so it's not like I can just skip every class like athletes do in some anime's or manga, though I really wish that were true.

The last period of the day is happening, but my mind is else where at the moment because of the other 7 periods I had to endure. It's exhausting having to just return to this mental backflip we call school after having to do physical work all of the prior day. But it is what it is, and for now all I can really do is go along with it until I can go to college...

In the midst of my zoning, a slip of paper suddenly smacks me in the forehead at what felt like half the speed of sound. It roughly knocks me out of my trance. I look down at it and become upset by the surprise attack for a moment only to see the girl who is supposed to be my best friend pointing at her hand, signaling for me to read the paper. I sigh and slowly pick it up, luckily the teacher didn't seem to notice this happening.

I open the folded paper, and flatten it out on my desk to read what it said inside; "Hey sugar, you wanna go on a date this afternoon?"

I look up from the piece of paper to see Fuyuko trying not to die of laughter because she believes this is funny for some reason. Don't get me wrong, the idea of dating her makes my lunch reconsider it's place of inside of my stomach, but still I can't let her get away with this.

I take the piece of paper and look at her with an award winning smile before, while keeping the same smile, rip it into several pieces and crumple it into a ball. I would burn it to if I had a lighter but that's unfortunately illegal in school.

Her face turns sour and she turns back around to the front of the class. She's done this multiple times, what she actually means is just asking me if I wanna hang out, but she still thinks that it's hilarious to try and ask me out even if it's only fake.

My thoughts of our strange friendship are interrupted by the sounding of the bell dismissing the final period of the day. Thank the gods.

I begin packing up my stuff only to see Fuyuko approaching me. She looked to be feigning anger towards me, as if what I did actually upset her. She stopped right in front of me and crossed her arms. "So what's the big deal, eh? Trying to lose your only friend?" She said while glaring down at me in my seated position.

I quickly stand up so as not to allow her to have the high ground anymore, cause we all know how well that turns out. "Only friend? You're feeling especially high and mighty today." I look out at the rush of students getting out of class to go to clubs and go home, I wish I could be one of them at this very moment. "And besides if you want to hang out, you can just ask like a normal human being."

"Who says I'm human?" She pokes me in the side like that was meant to be some kind of tease. "Anyway, as of today I am your only friend in this class since your brick supplier is out."

Hearing that sentence, my eyes look up and search about the remaining few students in the classroom, but I dont see Eve among them. "Strange, she must be sick or something." I push it off to the side, figuring it's none of my business to pry into and grab ahold of my school bag, slinging it over my shoulder. "Welp let's get go-" I'm suddenly cut off.

"Mr. Kosuke? I have a letter to give to you." I turn around to see an underclassman girl with a small smile looking up at me and holding out a light blue colored envelope towards me.

"Uh...thanks? Who is it fr-" I'm cut off once again by the underclassman not seeming to care about what I was going to say and skipping off. "Strange." I say under my breath before looking down at the letter and beginning to peel it open.

Fuyuko goes speechless as she simply looks over my shoulder with curiosity. I take the piece of paper out from the inside and open it gently to read the inside.

Written on the inside is a neat cursive handwriting in red ink to contrast the blue background and I see a few simple words.

"Behind the Gymnasium, 4 o'clock. I would like to speak to you privately."

I look up from the note to Fuyuko, who is now wearing a devilish smile. It seems she knows what this is...
