Kinley jumped up as well. She pulled something out of her pocket.
There were pirates and Sennite soldiers approaching the manor, with heavy artillery and apparently more pistols than Serenica had known to exist west of the Bridge. The men of the Order were quickly fully engaged. Kinley had to cast some sort of a spell. It was clear from her method of casting that she had stolen some of Spade's secrets somehow, or at least she had been reading the same books.
She had drawn all kinds of symbols on her skin and now she was tapping them, slapping them and Serenica felt like laughing. It looked almost comical, like a dance.
The effects of the spells were not comical at all.
The flowers in the garden crawled out of their fertile dirt. They seemed delicate at first, but after a lily took three shots into its petals and still kept on crawling, Serenica got scared.
Ed got up from his seat.
"Have you…uh, is the obsidian gone?"
