The night settles as the group makes their way to the Mayor's Mansion. A very fancy looking building on top of a hill near the back of Gallows Island surrounded by a tall metal fence.
As the group gets closer they notice from afar one single man guarding the big ornate gate.
You would expect it to be more people guarding the entrance to the Mayor's mansion. Regardless, the group will surely take advantage of this oversight.
After a brief discussion on what they should do, they come up with a simple but effective plan
William and Pearl, being the two less suspicious of the group, will go talk to the guard to try and make him open the gate while the other three stand a bit further back.
They both approach the gate and start to speak with the guard.
-I still don't understand why we can't simply bust through the gate and get this done quickly. – Ragnar says with slight annoyance.
-I'm sure we'll end up on the gallows tomorrow morning if we did that. – Verona responds
-Tsk. Is just one guy. I could know him down easily.
-I'm sure you could, Ragnar. – Says Duros while playing with a stray cat he found in the alleyway they're hiding.
A bit of time passes as they keep watching William doing some card tricks and Pearl trying to keep up with whatever William is trying to do.
-Do you guys trust her?
Duros and Ragnar look at Verona. Curious about this sudden topic.
-I've been keeping an eye on her. She's always trying to cover something under that hood and gloves.
-CHAHAHA. I don't even notice that she's with us most of the time. – Ragnar responds with a chuckle.
-Yeah, that's the point. She's always trying to go unnoticed. And also always with that shitty attitude.
-I trust her. – Duros says with a firm look. – Yes, she seems to be trying to hide something from us, but I am sure she is just a scared young woman trying to escape the terrible clutches of the Marines. So that is why I will stand by her side and protect her from any harm!
Duros punches his chest proudly after his speech. Verona and Ragnar just stand there looking confused.
-What, did you fall in love with her or something? – Asks Verona full of mockery.
Before they could continue their conversation, William grabs their attention with a loud whistle and signals them to come.
-Took you long enough. – Says Verona after they reach the gate now open and the unconscious guard on the ground.
-That guy was very skeptical of my card tricks. – Says William putting his deck of cards back on his pouch.
Perl looks through his pockets in the search of the key to the gate.
-Ragnar, take the body and hide him on those bushes over there. I'll lock the gate.
After locking the gate and hiding the body, the group looks around the mansion until they find a set of stairs leading down to a door on the side of the house. Verona tries to open it, but it's locked.
-I got this. – William says stepping in taking some lock picking tools out of his pouch with a casual smug on his face.
He gets down to do his work and all they can hear the sound of his tools breaking.
William doesn't say anything. He just stands there for a couple of seconds.
-Duros, Ragnar. Plan B!
He quickly gets out of the way for his comrades as they prepare to burst the door open.
They both swing at the door with their weapons sending it flying inside the room hearing a loud "ARGH" as it crushes a man against the wall.
They enter the long basement with wine barrels along the walls. William goes to the crushed body on the floor removing the door from on top of him.
-Are you perhaps Samillion?
The man looks like a fusion of a pirate with a fisherman. With a tattoo of a worm on his arm and a fish on his other arm.
-He doesn't look like a Samillion to me. – Duros says standing next to his captain.
-I hope all that noise hasn't alerted the people inside the mansion. – Verona says entering the room.
-Talking about noise, do you guys hear that? – Pearl says peaking her head slightly as the rest do the same.
At first, there's nothing. But, after some time, the group starts hearing some faint music coming from another set of stairs that lead down to another door.
William checks the body of the dead pirate/fisherman. And finds a keyring with three keys in it.
-Well, we can try these now.
As William stands up and heads to the stairs, Duros stops him.
-Wait a moment Captain. I've got an idea.
Everybody looks confused at Duros as he picks up the fisherman's hat from the body and puts it on. As well as a fishing rod that was lying beside the dead man.
-I'll pretend to be one of them so that way we can have the element of surprise on our side! – He says it so confidently and with a glitter in his eyes.
-…Okay. This might be crazy enough to work actually. – Says William handing the keys to Duros.
-Are you fucking serious, William? – Pearl says dumbfounded.
-Come on. Let him have his moment. – William responds following Duros down the stairs.
Pear looks at Ragnar and Verona.
-CHAHAHA! That's a great plan, my friend! – Ragnar follows them
Verona doesn't say anything and heads down the stairs too.
Pearl takes a deep breath and sighs following them.
Duros unlocks the door and swings it open revealing a small stone room with four people inside.
A man with jet black hair that goes down to his shoulders, three fishermen's hats on top of each other, and several nautical related tattoos covering his body sitting on a chair with his feet up on the desk. With a fishing rod on his hands as if he's fishing.
At the end of the fishing rod is a tied up sixteen-year-old looking boy with the hook inside his mouth.
Behind the man with the fishing rod is one pirate yelling something to the boy, and another pirate who's playing the violin.
Duros is the first to witness this scene with William and the rest following suit. He just looks at them for a moment. William prepares to speak something from behind Duros until his first mate does something unexpected.
-Hello fellow fishermen! I am also a fisherman and I would like to join you on this particular day.
The violin music stops.
William and the gang freeze. They clearly didn't expect Duros to be this upfront. Then remembering that it is Duros we're talking about.
Verona takes out his rifle and William puts his hands on his flintlock and his sword getting ready for the worst.
The man on the chair looks up and goes:
-Oi mate! Are you the one that was on guard? You got some nice armor mate.
-Well thank you – Duros says genuinely feeling happy for the compliment – And you have a very nice hat.
-Right? I got three of them. That's how they know I'm the captain.
-Ah lovely. So you must be Rodney Poldark. I was wondering what you gentlemen seem to be doing right now. May I join you?
They really seem to have been fooled by Duros' ingenious disguise.
William looks at the rest of the group as all of them ask the same question on their minds. Are these guys drunk or just stupid?
-You supposed to be guarding mate. I don't wanna feed you to the kippers like the other one.
-Oh Dang. – Duros says.
-Look, I'm a nice guy and you have some really nice armor mate. Do you have something to report? I heard a loud sound but I just assumed it was something from the manor house.
-Ah, y-yes. We got some entertainment if you guys are bored.
-Alright mate. We can do that later. Now we gotta interrogate this fella. Do you remember the mission right mate?
William decides to pick up at this point. He scoots around Duros and enters the room.
-Good evening gentlemen. I was just sent down here from the manor just to make sure everything is going as it should.
Rodney jumps out of the chair.
-Oi boys! We've been ratted out. The Mayor knows we're here!
He removes the hook from the boy's mouth and readies his fishing rod. The other man pulls out a pistol while the violinist starts to play music again.
-Well done William. – Pearl says sarcastically.
Ragnar pushes William and Duros to the side, stepping into the room.
-Alright, enough talk. Let's get this done and go back to the tavern to drink some more!
Ragnar punctuates his statement by swinging at the violinist, who graciously dodges out of the way and kicks Ragnar in the face.
The pirate with the pistol tries to shoot Ragnar but misses.
-Captain, I had them on the palm of my hand! – Duros says taking out his mace
-I'm sorry ok! I was under the presumption that these guys were working for the Mayor since they live under his fucking house!
-So you're the captain then. – Rodney launches his fishing rod trying to hook William. But Duros quickly puts his shield up protecting his captain.
William swiftly ducks under Duros' shield taking out his cutlass and slashing Rodney on the side.
Duros then follows suit with his mace trying to hit the enemy captain. But the much lighter and faster Rodney dodges out of the way taking a couple of steps back.
Pearl jumps over Duros taking off one of her gloves revealing not a human hand. Having instead a scaly claw which she uses to slash Rodney on the chest.
-ARGH! Oi mate. There is a lot of you huh.
The pirate with the pistol points at Pearl ready to shoot. However, Verona plants a precise bullet on his head from the end of the stairway. The man drops to the ground dead.
Meanwhile, Ragnar and the violinist are engaged in close combat.
Ragnar swings his ax with great force, but the violinist keeps on dodging and kicking Ragnar while playing the violin.
-This guy is getting on my nerves! – Ragnar exclaims trying to hit the man.
The violinist just smirks at and kicks him right in the jaw.
-Alright, if that's how you want to play. – Ragnar readies his ax for another strong swing. The violinist just waits for the opportunity to dodge.
Ragnar then, instead of swinging, throws his ax at the violinist who immediately gets out of the way but not without a considerable cut on his right arm.
Having lost his balance, the violinist can just watch as Ragnar's fist comes straight for his face. Punching him so hard into the ground that the flor itself cracks and the annoying violinist goes unconscious.
Having dealt with the two pirates in the room, only the captain is left standing.
-Oi mate! This isn't good…
-We outnumber you five to one. I suggest that you simply surrender and we'll maybe spare your life. – William says confidently.
-Hah mate. I'll never back down without a fight. I just wanted some information from this fella. Why are you guys even here?
-You kidnapped the shipwright's son. We're here simple to return him to his father in exchange for a ship.
-Oi don't be like that. We're going to fucking return him once he tells us exactly what we want to know.
-Well, that is not my concern. It seems much quicker to kill you and take him back. – William points his gun at the wounded captain.
-Alright, let's see if this is not of your concern!
Rodney launches his hook one more to fish William. The hook flies above Duros and hooks William right in the shoulder.
He reels his body towards him then sabs his arm with a dagger.
-ARGH! What the… - William trails off as he goes unconscious.
-Captain no! – Duros exclaims ready to charge but Rodney picks up the gun of his dead comrade and points it to William's head.
-Nah ha. – Rodney says with delight.
Verona can't get a good shot through his crewmates so all they can do is watch.
Duros takes a deep breath.
-Well, you are really good at throwing things. – He grabs his mace with both hands – And so am I!
He throws his mace straight to the enemy captain's face destroying his skull. Rodney mutters one last "Oi mate" before dropping dead on the ground.
