CHAPTER START---
Leaving his team in the hallway, Yang enters his suite to see grey tiles and white walls leading into a living area.
"Honey I'm home!" he jokingly calls out while walking through the hallway.
As he arrives at the kitchen he sees Freya sitting on the island counter kicking her feet as she waits for a pot of rice to boil.
Looking over, Freya gives him an intense look, seeing his eyes scanning up and down her body she puffs out her chest to give him a better view. Wearing only a matching set of purple underwear beneath the hoodie he first came to this world in, leaving the zipper completely undone to give him an incredible view, she can't help but smile as he walks over to her.
Leaning down slightly he gives her a passionate kiss before sitting on the marble countertop beside her.
"If this body could get pregnant those words would have done it," she says while leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Got it, never saying that again then."
"So mean..." she whines playfully while patting his arm.
"That's my charm, I love what you did with the place by the way."
"Mhm, glad you liked it, aside from the bedrooms the rest of it is the same across the three suites, don't tell Welf but I asked Hephaestus for advice with his bed, I think she picked the bed she wants to sleep in the most," Freya giggles at the memory of her blushing sister.
"Jeez, those two just need to get together already."
"She has good reason for making him wait, just trust her on this," Freya says.
"Alright, anything else happened while we were gone?"
Freya jumps down to the floor to check her rice," not particularly, last week I made the anonymous donations to the orphanages across Orario, all the things you requested. Repairs, food, clothes, medicine, furniture, books...all the good stuff, and they even got toys because of how generous the mystery benefactor was."
"The kids are good then, anything else?"
"I missed you," she turns off the stove to turn around and give him her best puppy dog eyes.
"I missed you too babe," he steps down to give her another kiss, this time pulling her in for a hug afterward.
"Go shower and I'll get the food ready, you smell like the sea, in a bad way," she playfully pushes him away.
"Alright alright, I'll go clean up," he says while walking down the hallway to explore the other rooms.
"Don't do that fire bath thing, you always smell like burnt steak after that!" she yells out while preparing the rice.
Finding the master bedroom, Yang is greeted by the sight of a massive bed, large enough to fit himself five times over, blue bedspread for the postless bed. A small sitting area in the bedroom with a little table and two single cushioned seats facing it, and a large dresser with what looks like Freya's hair brushes neatly set out on it.
Walking around the room he saw no makeup on the dresser or even the bedside table. The backboard to the bed was built into the wall, soft blue cushion.
Looking into the master bathroom Yang sees a large square white tub, definitely not meant for only one regular-sized person. Across from it is a glass shower enclosure with a sink and toilet not far off.
Walking toward the double doors in the bedroom he pulled them open, only to freeze at what he saw inside.
Walking into the closet. The closet itself was a small room with men's clothes on the left and obviously Freya's clothes on the right, she'd obviously bought him more clothes considering everything he had could have fit into one suitcase before he left.
What confused him however was the other matter, when did she fully move in...without asking him.
"FREYA!" his booming voice echoes across the suite all the way to the kitchen.
A moment later and he can hear frantic footsteps across the floor, entering the bedroom and reaching the closet Freya freezes as she sees him standing inside. Her eyes were wide as realization suddenly hit her.
"Um...I can explain," she says.
"Oh please, explain why you moved in with me without asking," he narrowed his eyes at her.
Biting her lip and playing with her hair, Freya looks down at the floor, as she tries to formulate an answer.
"Well...I didn't really move in."
"Really? So all these women's clothes belong to...?"
"You've only moved when your mail goes somewhere else I think so...this isn't really moving."
"You know what I mean, you're smart enough to see the problem here."
"Well, maybe I don't see a problem here," she raises her head to look at him, a nervous smile on her lips.
"What were you thinking when you did this?"
"I just thought that since I spend every night in your bed whenever you're in Orario that I should just bring some clothes over, it embarrassing having to pack a bag," she huffs at the thought.
"That's not the problem here..." Yang says, passing a hand down his face at the pouting goddess.
"It's not?"
"The problem is you didn't ask me, that's the problem..."
"Uh-I-um," the goddess stuttered helplessly, lost for words, "so you aren't mad about me being here?"
"What? No, why would I be mad about that?"
Walking forward Freya wraps her arms around him and gives him a tight hug, "I'm sorry I didn't ask your permission first."
"This is what I get for dating heavens' number one spoiled brat huh, don't make big decisions like this without me ok, and remember, this isn't forever."
"Mhm," she pulls away from him, "at least until you fall in love with me and it becomes forever, now go shower so I can get the food ready," she gives him a cocky grin before walking back to the kitchen.
"Almost tempting," Yang mutters to himself as she leaves the room.
20 minutes later, sitting on the couch with Freya, Yang eats a meal of rice and grilled chicken as they watch the sunset through the large tinted windows.
The massive 200ft walls surrounding Orario cutting it short, the only place one could even see it fully was at the very top of the tower after all.
"I know my sense of taste is bland, but what did you do to this chicken babe?" Yang asks.
"You like it?"
"It's...weird," Yang hesitantly says.
"Mmm, "Freya pouts and looks away from him, "this is why she never lets me in the kitchen," she mutters.
"Huh...who?"
"Um...the head chief at my mansion," a simple lie. She couldn't tell him that as Syr, Mia would never let her cook for customers.
"Yeah that's a good call, you made chicken somehow burnt and soggy... good thing you aren't the god of cooking huh," he jokes as she pats his arm.
"So mean to a goddess, don't you know mortals are supposed to be grateful to anything prepared by a god."
"I'm grateful to anything that is made properly."
"You're the worst..."
"I try, so why didn't you tell me there was a reading room?" he gestures to the far end of the suite.
"The floor plan had it for storage, but yours is just a bunch of mostly empty shelves on four walls, you didn't have many books in your apartment. Welf's is a design room for him to draw new builds, Hephaestus made it like hers. Thalie got a smaller armory for her and Tsubaki's favorite toys, Tsubaki said she doesn't really have any hobbies aside from fighting," Freya explains.
"Hmm, you did really well with this, thank you."
"Well I'll be spending a lot of time here, of course I made them amazing," she giggles to herself before eating another spoonful of rice.
"Did I miss anything else while we were away?" Yang asks, forcing himself to continue eating the food.
"Hmm, there was a war game."
"War game?"
"Mhm, when two familias have a conflict they can challenge each other to a war game. Think of it like a big sporting event to put on a show for everyone, this time it was two weak familias squabbling over a new recruit, neither of them even had a level 2, quite boring."
"So what they just had a brawl?"
"No they had a duel, each familia captain fought one on one and the winner got the new recruit."
"Jeez, is one person worth fighting over?"
"For those familias gaining a level 2 is quite a big deal, it gives them a seat at the Denatus so they can actually have a say in the affairs of Orario, not that they'd get any real clout with only a single level 2 but it's a start."
"Hmm, so it was more of a status thing, that makes sense. Anything else?"
"The goddess festival, just a little thing made by goddesses who love to have mortals praise them," she rolls her eyes at the idea of the festival.
"Hmm... that sounds annoying more than anything else."
"Exactly why I never get involved, Ishtar loves it though..."
"Who..."
After talking and 'catching up' Yang and Freya find themselves laying in bed.
With the stars high in the sky outside the large windows as the heavy snowfalls upon the city, they both lay under the blanket talking about nothing in particular, enjoying each other's company.
"Why don't you want to put your name on the donations, or visit the orphanages?" Freya asks, turning on her side and draping an arm across his chest.
"Because the purpose of charity is to do good not get credit."
Looking at him, no, looking through him. Freya saw past the stoic expression on his face and peered into his very soul.
The familiar shattered planet that would make her heart flutter at the sight of it was...different.
Almost exactly the same, but some of the pieces we moving, the smaller pieces were being pulled together. She could literally see him changing before her eyes, whatever these pieces meant, he was becoming whole again, pulling himself back together.
The very thought of what would come of him completely healing made her breathless.
"Don't tell me facts, tell me how you feel," she insists. Determined to know what puts the pieces together.
"Can you just, not push this one," Yang sighs and looks away, trying to get her to back off.
"Mmmm, please?" Freya nuzzles up to him and does her best pleading expression.
"Fine fine, it's just that. You know how this ends with me leaving."
"Mhm."
"Well, you don't actually NEED me."
"I do," she shot back.
"No, you don't. You think you do, but you don't."
"I need you," she insists.
"Can you please just let me talk without interrupting?"
"Fine fine, even if that was wrong..."
"Thank you," she rolls his eyes at her before continuing," you don't actually need me but those kids might. If I go down there and see them, I might get attached. They'd be like Anchors. I can walk away from you because I know you'll be ok, but if I get attached to them then... it makes continuing my adventure harder. I know they won't stop me from it but...the guilt..."
"So that's why you keep your distance..." she mutters thoughtfully, letting the revelation soak in.
"Yeah, it makes things easier..."
"You...you're making things really difficult, you know that right," she mutters before sinking below the covers and turning away from him.
"What?" seeing her sudden change in mood Yang gets a bit concerned, "you ok? What's wrong?"
"Nothing, goodnight," she bites back. Not even trying to hide the venom in those two simple words.
"Are you mad at me?"
"No...Yes...I don't know just, goodnight," a soft voice answers him, she sounded a step from tears.
Moving over he wraps an arm around her and pulls her into him, her back now pressed against his chest as he holds her close.
"If you don't tell me what's wrong how am I gonna know?"
"Nothing's wrong," an obvious lie, he could tell she was crying.
"Maybe my next magic will be reading minds...then I'll be able to understand women..." he mutters softly while holding her closer, reminding her that he was there and she was safe.
Within Freya's mind was a mix of envy and rage like never before.
Rage at the unfairness she felt, gods are meant to be perfected beings. Capable of any and everything, but the damned deal they made with heaven to allow them to descend to this lower world is crippling her.
Part of the deal is that gods would be infertile, and after that conversation, it was obvious what the easiest way of keeping Yang for herself would have been.
She felt jealous, for the first time in her existence she felt jealous of mortal women, most of which had a better chance of getting Yang to stay at their side than her.
She wasn't dumb, she knew what she was thinking, this was insane. It could only end badly, trapping a man with a child and binding his life to yours with it. A cruel and immoral tactic, but there is no limit to what she'd do to keep her true love at her side, if only she were capable...
