CHAPTER START---

As Welf stands before the serpent, the monster quickly lunges downward toward the adventurer. As he dives out of the way, landing on the opposite side of the creature, effectively placing in between himself and Thalie, the monster slams into the stone floor with its maw open.

As the stone shatters under the weight of the creature, it suddenly jerks back, reflexively moving away from Welf.

*GRRRR*

A low, throaty growl emanates from the monster as it cranes its head high above the floor, thrashing to and fro, vigorously shaking its head.

As the monster shifts its head, Welf finally sees what caused this, clinging to the side of the monsters' face, Thalie sinks her daggers into the scales as she climbs the beast.

"C'mon, c'mon... almost there..." She groans out with a determined look on her face.

With every shift she lifts one dagger at a time and sinks them back into the creature, climbing as if she were scaling Everest itself to get to the monsters' glowing blue eyes.

"If it worked for Yang right..." She mutters to herself, before sinking up to her forearm into the creature's eyeball.

*RRAAARRGGGGGHH*

The monster wails out, its cry echoing through the dungeon floor as it slams its head into the ground, dragging the left side of its face through the stone as it tries to scrape Thalie off.

"WE NEED TO GET YANG!" Welf shouts out, rushing toward the monster with intent to mount it.

As Thalie hears this, she sinks her hand deeper, as the monster fails to drag her across the dungeon floor, she reaches up to her shoulder into the creature and flails her dagger around.

*RRAAARRGGGGGHH*

The monster cries out once more, this time, however, the pain is accompanied by a new feeling in the beast. As the surge of pain and anguish rush through the creature, its scales begin to glow, the kaleidoscope of colors quickly shifts and change, into a uniform light blue. A searing heat begins to emanate from the monster as if it were trying to flash fry Thalie.

"GET BACK!" She yells, placing both feet flat on the side of the creature and pushing off, dislodging herself from the monsters' eye.

As the commander reaches Welf, he immediately feels the heat even from a dozen feet away, leaping backward he immediately takes cover behind a boulder, moments before a massive torrent of blue flames surge through the area.

As the flames stop wafting outward, Welf peeks above his cover to see the massive creature covered in bright blue flames, a very familiar sight considering his recent teammate.

The flames rage on the monsters' body, opposed to the calm and relaxed Yang using flames, the monster thrashes around in a panic.

'What the heck is going on here?' He asks himself while observing quietly.

"I don't think it can handle the flames" Thalie mutters at his side.

Startled, Welf almost jumps out from behind his cover at the assassins' words.

"Don't sneak up on me like that..."

"Get over it, I have an idea, how long do you need for that anti-casting spell you have?"

"Only a moment, why, think it'll work?" Welf questions as they both look at the thrashing monster.

"Look at its mouth..." Thalie says as she focuses on the monster once more.

As Welf hones his vision in, he notices something peculiar, every time the monster roars, something in its mouth is pulsing, a faint white light.

"Is that---"

"No idea, maybe it's him but either way we need to get him out before you use your spell, or he goes boom with this thing, if we wait it out and this thing figures out how to handle the magic we're in trouble, take these and on my signal hit the head," Handing him three small marbles, she leaps over their cover toward the monster.

As she races toward the creature, reaching to the inner section of her gauntlets, Thalie withdraws two six-inch rods, quickly connecting them together it expands into one seven-foot staff, a metal weapon with a black and silver design snaking around the entire structure, a sigil of a ship at the base of each end.

Twirling her staff in her right hand, she circles around toward the front of the creature to get a proper look at its head.

'It's thrashing around slower, probably getting used to the pain somehow, I need to get its attention to get to the mouth...' She thinks to herself for a moment before drawing a dagger to her left hand.

With a mighty throw and the most delicate flick of her wrist, she hurls the blade through the air and toward the remaining eye of the monster. As the weapon twirls in the air, just a moment before it penetrates its target, the creature thrashes in an unexpected manner, knocking the blade away as its head stops moving completely, now bearing down on Thalie.

"Ok, yeah just focus on me moron," She says, more to herself than the monster that she knows can't understand her.

Charging toward the monster, she twirls her staff at her side while deciding her path. As the serpent lunges forward, the flames on its body roar once more, the rock under its body become molten and melt away from the sheer heat as the blue flames lick at everything around it.

With a mighty strike, the monster lunges forward, attempting to bit Thalie.

"GOTCHA!" She yells out, using her staff to vault upward and arc above the creature's head.

As she flips through the air, within the open maw of the beast, her ally rests. On a web made of what would appear to be silver thread, Yang peacefully sleeps as pulses of magic leave his body, traveling along the web in the mouth of the monster and being absorbed by the monster.

With one final tumble, Thalie rights herself in mid-air before slamming down onto the head of the monster. As she approaches, the heat begins searing her skin. Her blood and armor have never felt anything like this before, the metal begins to glow red hot as her skin bubbles, evaporated blood trying to burst through to the surface.

"AHH!" She cries out, instinctively leaping off the monster.

"Ahhhhh, FUCK!" she yells out as she slams into the hard floor of the dungeon, barely 20 meters from the monster. Pain wracking her body.

"C'mon, you've got this," She says to herself, slamming a fist into the ground as she forces herself back to her feet. Ignoring the pain and heated metal on her body.

Tightening the grip on her staff, Thalie furrows her brow and grits her teeth at the monster, the massive serpent now laying flat on the ground as it rushes toward her, destroying everything around it.

Rushing toward the monster once more, Thalie locks her gaze onto the monsters' mouth.

'In and out, one move, c'mon,' She thinks to herself while racing forward.

As the monster makes to chomp down on her once more, gritting her teeth, Thalie dives into the mouth of the creature. Narrowly evading the rows upon rows of teeth as she shows her acrobatic prowess.

With a quick motion, the instant she plants her feet on the tongue of the monster, flipping her staff vertically she twists it once more causing it to extend, pinning the monster's mouth open.

"Ugh!" She exclaims, the heat still searing her skin and armor alike, as her face begins to scar and bubble, her hair begins to turn to ash.

In one swift motion, she reaches down toward Yang, grabbing onto his shoulder and prying him off the magic draining webs with surprising ease. With a mighty heave, she pulls Yang over her shoulder and jumps forward, barely clearing the distance to reach out of the mouth of the monster.

"NOW!" She yells out, hoping Welf can hear her.

As she carries Yang out of the mouth of the monster, the three marbles impact the nose of the serpent, immediately shattering and spreading as a dark blue mist, completely blocking visibility.

The monsters' Jaw clamps shut with a loud SNAP, Thalie knows her staff is broken and immediately rushes toward Welf.

"He ok?" He hastily asks her while pulling both of them into cover behind a rock formation.

"Alive, asleep, fucking asleep..." She says through gritted teeth, passing a hand over her burns.

"You need a poti---"

"No, that cloud is from my old familia, it stays wherever the shells break, the magic should keep it off us for a moment. If we use a potion it might find us..."

"What's the plan?" Welf asks her as he puts the potion away.

"Use your spell and see how it goes, when it dies then we can get out of here, we can't run from it and carry him at the same time..." She says, nodding toward Yang as he sleeps on the floor.

As they have this hushed conversation, the sound of rocks breaking has Thalie peek over their cover, only to see the monster pulling the magic mist into its mouth, craning its head to look for the lost targets.

"I don't think it can find us without us using magic, I have an idea, I don't think it can resist its own magic like Yang does, if we just sit here and it doesn't find us then it dies or leaves...ach," She groans, clutching her side as she speaks.

"We don't have that time, you need to heal now, damned if we do and damned if we don't..."

"I can...handle this..." She forces out, unconvincingly.

"I don't feel like losing anyone now, it grew when it absorbed his magic so we can tire it out by making it use all, or it kills itself because it can't control his flames, we can do this, nobody dies,"

As Welf speaks, he steels his will and draws his greatsword once more, removing the health potion and placing it on her lap.

"I get it away, you stash Yang somewhere and heal then come join the fight, we've got this,"

As he reassures her, rising to his feet, greatsword in hand. Taking a moment to look at his allies, Welf prepares for the toughest fight of his life.

"I'll try to not go too far," He says before rushing out of cover.

"HEY, OVER HERE!" He yells out, drawing the monsters' attention to himself as he rushes away from his teammates.

As the massive monster slithers toward him, Welf focuses on clearing as much distance as possible.

Almost 100 meters away, the crashing of rocks behind him suddenly stops. Turning around Welf sees the monster looking back to where his teammates are.

'She used the potion and it really did sense it, I need to draw its attention back to me...'

"WILL-O-WISP!" He cries out, trying to gain the attention of the monster with his words and his magic.

As his magic begins to gather in his hand, the serpent immediately whips its head toward Welf before rushing forward.

Coated in azure flames, his target doesn't even bother to dodge, as Welf's magic hits the creature like a gust of wind, all the flames on its body immediately dissipate as it's one good eye closes, the massive serpent visibly relaxes as the dungeon ground feels the harsh impact of its weight.

*BOOM*

The impact echoes through the rocky plain, the beast skidding to a halt a few meters ahead of Welf.

"Huh, it worked, guess that makes sense since it's a magic-based monster..." Welf says as he runs past the head of the creature, moving toward where the monster crystal would be.

As he walks almost half the length of the serpent, however, the Blue scales that became visible when the flames were subdued suddenly shift, moving back to a kaleidoscope of colors before settling for a dark purple taking their place as the monster stirs.

"No, no..." Welf pleads to no one as purple lightning begins to arc off the creature.

Taking a leap backward, Welf narrowly avoids the currents now bounding around the battlefield as he takes cover behind some rocks.

"Is this... worse than fire?" He asks himself, trying to make sense of what just happened.

END CHAPTER---

I had to break this fight into multiple chapters because of how long it was, this chapter is already 2000+ words... it took 6 re-writes :/
