It had been calm the last month, in Malaki's opinion it had been to calm. Kelpie had yet to throw a tantrum, there had been no ships in site and there were no storms rising upon the horizon. Malaki felt her gut clench yet again. Something was coming. She could feel it, her hair stood on end, goosebumps covered her skin occasionally and she felt watched. Like a fish in a net before it new something was amiss. It just swam along, unaware it had already been ensnared. And when she looked in the shadows she swore she could see movement. A wraith in the darkness. Kelpie had been acting odd as well. He wandered closer and closer to the edge of the boat, oftentimes trying to climb up onto the lip. And he lurked around in the shadows of the deck, looking at the water from where he perched. It was their first stop at a small island called Balkan, a deserted fishing town, that even pirates no longer visited for its lack of both Human Resources and its barren lands. A volcanic ashy island, but Las Marias fleet had stashed everywhere and this was one of them. Dried food and rope, fishing line, clean clothes. All things needed for a large voyage such as this. Malaki looked over the boat ledge only to see a horrifying swirl, a pitch black colored with strips of blues and dark greens. Much like Kelpies eyes, they drew Malaki in. Suddenly Malaki was pulled backwards, her back smashing against the deck. Kelpie looked down at her from where he stood, his two year old form shrouded in darkness. "No Mawiki, dangewous." She blinked up at him, trying to regain her breath that had slammed out of her on contact with the floor. Shock at his strength, as well as confusion at his first words ever struck her brain. Still shocked Malaki asked "what's dangerous, Kelpie?" "Water, dangewous. Shadow eat yuou." Kelpie froze, she found his words coincided with her gut clenching every time she looked over the water. But it was impossible, what could a two year old know. She hesitated before she rose, and Kelpie shook his head, pointing at the cabin. She wandered over there almost instinctively listening to him. As the door shut Kelpie looked over at the swirling vortex of water and he saw a red Kelpie amidst the dark swirling. "Leave" Kelpie barked, his power surging, his animal instinct to protect his making him react. Suddenly as the vortex had appeared it dissipated into deep blue sea again. Kelpie looked toward the cabin and as quick as the wind the menacing aura rushed into the air. And once again stood a two year old child doddering about the ship deck. Malaki peeked out and to her relief Kelpie was once again a child. She peeked over the deck and found the waters calm and smooth, small waves rippling across its surface. She suddenly spotted the ashy volcanic island in the distance. Relief yet again washed over her. For occasionally while Malaki had been sea bound for most her life and the ship was her first home, she couldn't help but miss the land, the feeling of ground beneath her feet. Her cat eyes dilated at the thought of salty meat. They had been living off fish for the last three days. Their little Kelpie had grown quite the appetite and they had not expected him to grow his pointed teeth so quickly. Most children didn't get their teeth so quickly. But Kelpie was special so it wasn't a hard pill to swallow, just as though Malaki was shocked at his sudden transformation on deck, she didn't necessarily feel it was something unbelievable. But rations had been gone for at least three days and Malaki was starved for meat. She was a carnivore after all. Just as they approached land beginning to sidle into the small dock, the tides began to smash against their small boat in suck force the boat tilted, the lip of the boat dipping into the water, the sea and foam rushing onto the deck. Kelpie screeched and dark clouds rolled over them. Lester at the rear of the boat strained to throw himself against the other side of the boat in hopes to stall the boat from going under. Kelpie began to radiate a dark energy again as Malaki rushed towards him. As she touched the black mist she felt a burning sensation roll along her left side. The boat groaned and the water spilled into the hull as it tilted downward its left side. Malaki became limp as she smashed into the water, the boat pushing her under as it sank quietly to the rocky floors. Her vision fading she saw a large black figure swimming towards her. As everything went black her world went silent.
