She's just started to work at the police station, but after the first day she's got used to it that criminals come and go through that door. But today was different. A man entered the building with two police by his side. But to her it felt like the devil walked in that door. He may have been in the late twenties, if you looked into his eyes too long you lost in it and it was like facing all the sins that a human being can do. He had messy and a little bit curly, dark brown hair, emerald green eyes, beard, but not too much, he was tall and a very masculine man. He was in a black suit, and seemed like a rich businessman with anger issues and a manipulative, narcissistic personality. But it was only a guess, which was for sure that his appearance made Amara think that the devil itself walked through into the hallway.
"-Miss Walker! Your first case is behind that door! - she pointed at the interrogation room where the man was taken. The blood in her veins froze but not just because this is her fist real case, but because when the man looked at her in the hallway she felt like the man got a control over her."
As she walked toward the room she looked around at the dark corridor which was full of people who tried to bring peace to the city. But sometimes they give up on that theory and just close the case unresolved. That's why Amara wanted to work here, she thought maybe she can do what other detectives can't, a peaceful closure to families whose loved ones got murdered.
Inside the room was nothing else just a table, a mirror, dark walls and a chair on which the man sat. He looked at Amara like he was wanted to hypnotise the girl with those green eyes. Maybe that was not so hard. An innocent, broken and full of self-loathing girl who needed a strong man with confidence. It was like the perfect match.
"-Dean Stan, an illegal street racer. You've been arrested three times because racing, but you always got away. How did you do it? Money, flirt, a nice smile?
-What's your name darling? - smiled.
-Amara Walker. But to you it's Miss Walker!
-Stubborn! I love it.
-You know that you can't get away this time, right? I don't know how you did it before but-..
-Money, love. Money. The only thing that able to solve all our problem! You know, a wise person should have money in their head, not in their heart.
-You just quoted Jonathan Swift.- she looked at Dean confused because as much as she tried she couldn't see in his head.
-Yeah, of course. Call the boss here, he'll take care of me..again! - he laughed and he sat in that chair like he was home.
-No. You're not going to get that chance again.
-Yes, I am gonna get that chance because I have my rights! - he raised his voice and he gave that 'I'll kill you" look.
-Yes, exactly! About your rights. You didn't wanted a lawyer, you're not even trying to defend yourself and your file is almost empty! I don't understand wh-..
-I said I want to talk to your fucking boss! What do you not understand?! - he yelled and he became so angry that he almost grabbed Amara with handcuffed hands. She's got scared but she didn't move. Just watched the man losing his patience. She waited until Dean sat back, then without a word she started to walk towards the door but there was something she needed to ask.
-Where do you get so much money from?
-Do you want me to quote another Jonathan whoever quotes or are we done here?"
She walked out from the room with a lot of confusion in her mind. Amara didn't understand anything about what happened but the thing that didn't let her rest why the file was almost empty. He's a criminal with a long history behind him and the only thing that was written down is his personal information, but not completely, and the crime he's committed. So, what's his story?
