When Su Li entered, the man was looking down at some documents. Although she couldn't see his face directly, the mere sight of his stern profile combined with an air of "keep out" around him made Su Li involuntarily swallow.
The man did not move, and Su Li stood there without moving.
She actually wanted to say something, but all the lines she had thought of on the way were completely forgotten upon seeing this man.
About two minutes of silence passed before Wei Chengfeng finally put down the documents in his hand and looked up. His gaze landed on the disheveled woman in front of him, and he slightly furrowed his brows, "Are you Su Li?"
"Yes."
Wei Chengfeng stood up and walked to the sitting area, pointing to a spot next to him, "Come over and sit."
Su Li walked over and sat down at a spot a little farther from him.
Wei Chengfeng leaned back on the sofa, his long legs naturally crossed. His gaze rested on her, devoid of any warmth, "Did you come to see me because you need something?"
Su Li pushed her glasses up—it was a small nervous tic of hers—and took a deep breath before looking up to meet his gaze, "I heard from my father that the Wei Family wants to forge a marriage alliance with the Su family?"
Wei Chengfeng placed his hands on his thighs, his fingers lightly clasped, "To put it precisely, it's your Su family that wants to forge a marriage alliance with the Wei Family."
"Either way, you proposed this as a condition to help 'Huaxin,' right?"
Wei Chengfeng looked at her indifferently, not answering, yet his stance seemed to tacitly agree.
"See, it still means your family wants to forge an alliance with ours. Anyway, that's not important now. I came today to ask if there's some other way?"
Wei Chengfeng slightly tilted his head, scrutinizing the petite woman in front of him who wasn't exactly beautiful, "What way?"
It sounded like there might be hope to change his mind?
Su Li brightened up, "Anything but marriage, any other way."
"I don't need anything in the near future except for a marriage that shows to the world."
Su Li's heart sank. After a moment's thought, she hurriedly said, "I have a younger sister who is prettier and has a better figure than me, you could..."
Wei Chengfeng's expression deepened, but his face remained as impassive as ever, "I will not marry an 'actress.'"
"How do you know..." Su Li looked at him in surprise.
She hadn't expected that she knew nothing about him, yet he knew so much about her family.
"You think I would make such a decision without investigating everything?"
Su Li opened her mouth but ended up saying nothing; she blinked and after a long moment asked, "So, you mean you won't change your mind?"
Wei Chengfeng responded once again with silence.
Su Li was more than just deflated; she was desperate.
Despite this man being near perfect, she already belonged to someone else. Marrying a man she did not love was something she simply could not do.
Faced with such a situation, Su Li had no choice but to resort to a tactic of desperation. Suddenly, her expression shifted to one of fragility and grievance, "With your qualifications, the women waiting to marry you could queue up for miles. Why did you specifically choose me?"
Wei Chengfeng observed her for a while before finally speaking, but his answer was evasive.
"Let's omit the engagement process. If you want it, I can provide that too. The wedding date is already set, your family or you don't need to prepare anything, just wait to become the bride."
