Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

- Claiza City Police Department; 8:30 P.M. -

"I'll wait here."

Kazimir shakes his head, turning to the young law student.

"It's fine, I'll catch a taxi. Just make sure Khristina is doing okay."

Alexei nods.

"Okay. Stay safe."

"I will, thank you."

After the car leaves his site, Kazimir walks behind the building, changing into the fake police uniform he'd replicated.

Taking out a piece of paper, he uncrumples it and stares down at a picture of an officer.

"Fucking bastard. Can't forget this face."

Stuffing it back in his pocket, he walks inside, sliding past the receptionist at the front.

Making his way down the hall, Kazimir enters a random room, sits down, and picks up a book.

He turns the pages, pretending to read it.

"Hey!"

Turning towards the doorway, Kazimir's brows furrow.

*"It's him. One of the twenty bastards who joked about Camille's case."*

Kazimir watches as the old man walks over, taking a seat in front of him.

Taking a sip from his half empty can of soda, the older male loudly puts it down.

"Why the hell is a rookie cop like you on the professional's side of the hall?"

"Because the other side of the hall was closed for janitorial purposes." Kazimir replies. "I'm waiting for the janitor to finish so I can grab my things I left."

"No it wasn't, I just walked from over there." the older man says.

Rolling his eyes, Kazimir lets out a small huff.

"Then go over there again and see for yourself."

The man audibly groans and stands up, walking out of the room.

Quickly reaching into his pocket, Kazimir takes out a small bottle of arsenic.

He carefully pours some into the can before swiftly putting the small bottle back into his pocket.

Hearing footsteps, the young man pretends to read again.

"You dumbass, the hall isn't closed! The lights are just off!" the older officer yells in annoyance.

"Oh."

Standing up, Kazimir watches as the man takes another sip of his cola.

"Hurry up and get what you need. All rookies were supposed to be out over an hour ago."

"Stop complaining, you don't think I know that?"

Walking out of the room, Kazimir hides behind a plant for a couple of minutes before walking back down the other side of the hall to make it seem as if he picked up whatever he left.

"At least I'll have an interesting news story to look forward to tomorrow morning." the young detective says, chuckling a bit.

--- the next day ---

Rolling a pencil on the table in front of him, Kazimir watches as his co-worker, Pierre, fills out a piece of paper.

"Why exactly did you say I have to be here and then give me nothing to do?"

The professional detective looks up.

"'Cause rookies are supposed to be here whether they're working or not."

Putting the paper aside, Pierre checks the clock and gets up from his seat.

"Anyway, it's our lunch break so we can head out for a bit. But first, I gotta show you something."

He walks out of the room, Kazimir following behind.

The two walk outside and to Pierre's car, the slightly older male quickly pulling out of the parking lot.

"Where are we even going?" Kazimir asks, looking out of the window.

"Chill, you'll see."

Speeding through stop signs, Pierre makes a sharp turn onto a small residential street, before pulling into his driveway.

"I don't think some of these people like you." the young university student says, as he looks over at an older woman staring back at them from across the street.

Pierre nods.

"Her daughter lives in another city and comes here to visit from time to time. She's probably still mad that I fucked her once."

Kazimir raises a brow.

"You're very blunt about that."

"Yep. The mom's sexy herself so I told her she could be next, but she scowled and called me disgusting. Maybe another day, though. Anyway, look at this."

Pressing his garage button, it slowly opens, a new muscle car greeting the two men.

"Isn't she beautiful?"

Kazimir walks around the car and shrugs.

"I see you have a thing for certain types of cars."

Pierre nods and tosses his old car keys to the younger man.

Putting his hands out, Kazimir catches them, looking down at the keys in his hand.

"My old car, she's all yours."

Kazimir raises a brow.

"You're giving me your car? What is this? A set up?"

Pierre nods.

"Yeah, because I'd definitely risk losing fame and fortune by putting a hit on someone that I deem worthless."

The young man rolls his eyes, groaning.

"Why're you doing this again?"

"Uzini keeps complaining to me about how you're barely making it on time since it is the professional's job to make sure their rookie counterpart shows up at an appropriate time. Make sure you take good care of her, though." Pierre replies.

"Uh, sure. Thanks, I guess."

"Yeah, no problem. Anyway, come inside for lunch."

The two enter into the main house through the garage door.

Turning the T.V. on, Pierre turns to a daytime talk show before heading into the kitchen to make lunch.

Taking out his phone, Kazimir scrolls through a social media application, before feeling something heavy come upon his foot.

"Ahem!"

Turning to his co-worker, Pierre laughs at the sight on Kazimir's foot.

"That's my bunny, Bon Bon. She just does that when she finds something she's attracted to."

Hopping off Kazimir's foot, Bon Bon opens a mini refrigerator with her name on it, dragging out a pre-packaged bowl of crab salad.

"She's, uh, very smart."

Pierre nods.

"Of course she is. She learned from the best."

Kazimir watches as the small animal opens it, before pushing the food over to him.

Putting a small hand on his leg, she makes a gesture that both her and Kazimir should share the salad.

"Bon Bon, don't share your food with that clown. He's not good enough for you." Pierre says, shaking his head.

The bunny looks up at Kazimir before pushing her food to the other side of the dining room to eat.

"I can't believe she really listened to you."

"Well, she is my bunny."

"Anyway, what's for lunch?" the young detective asks, turning to Pierre.

"Sancocho and jambon-buerre. Simply put, soup and sandwiches."

Putting the dishes on the table, Pierre gives Kazimir a small bowl and a plate.

"Anyway, we have another meeting today."

"Again?" Kazimir replies, cooling the soup.

"Yep. And guess who gets to host it?"

"You?"

"No, that new blondie bastard." Pierre says.

"Dayne?"

The older detective smiles.

"If you wanna be all professional about it, then yeah."

"You seem jealous, Pierre." Kazimir taunts, taking a bite of his sandwich.

Pierre slams his spoon on the table and shakes his head.

"It's funny, because Uzini said the same thing. I'm not jealous, it's just something off about him and that cocky bastard twin of his. I can feel it."

"Or, they've just been in the spotlight more than you have recently."

Pierre gives him a "don't-try-it" look.

"I was just saying." Kazimir replies.

The professional detective sighs.

"When it turns out that I was right all along, I don't want to hear anyone complaining."

The angered male stacks his empty bowl on top of his plate and sits back.

"If it makes you feel better, the food was actually really delicious. Didn't know a bastard like you could cook that well." Kazimir says.

Pierre rolls his eyes and chuckles, handing one of the sandwiches to Bon Bon.

"Thanks, sancocho's my favorite and my mom rarely made it, so it's special to me. The jambon-buerre is something I just added with it. Makes a hearty meal."

He stands up, grabbing both his and Kazimir's dishes, putting them in the sink before walking over to little Bon Bon.

"Alright, girl. Daddy doesn't know how long he'll be at the station, but you can have the leftovers for dinner if I'm not home in time, okay?"

The bunny twists her ears and Pierre laughs.

"Okay, I'll see you later."

He stands up and walks out back to his garage.

"I'll race you back to the station." Pierre says, stepping into his new car.

Looking back over at the woman from earlier who was now watering her rose bushes, Kazimir shakes his head.

"I'll pass on that."
