No one knew that she spent each day in emptiness, turning on the flat-screen TV, letting the sound fill the void, pretending there was someone there with her, even though she was not watching, and not listening.
She would sit down, staring blankly at the brick wall, her mind completely blank, numb to everything.
Everything she ate daily had a bitter taste, it was hard to swallow.
She knew she could not afford to cry incessantly, because it would be harmful to the child. Therefore, she tried to put on a smile as much as she could, hoping to cheer herself up.
She knew that even if she could not eat, she had to try to eat a little more, because the child needed nutrition.
For the sake of the child, she struggled to live like a regular person.
Only at these times, she revealed her sorrow. She gazed ahead full of longing, hoping that the person she missed so much would suddenly stop at her door in his car, get out, embrace her and take her home, along with their child.
