WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT AHEAD:
The content ahead may be disturbing to younger readers, please bear this in mind before reading on, This chapter is not key to the story and it just world building, A history of how humanity came to be where it is in 'universe 64'. Now that is over and done, I do hope you enjoy reading ^-^
And it was a utopia... Until it wasn't. It always is until it isn't. The beginning is just the start of the end. The end a start of a new chapter of life... A new beginning.
Since the dawn of humanity Humans had lived and thrived off one base concept. Some call it desire, others call it greed but I simply call it 'To want'.
Humans want. That is their one true fault. They are Smart, Creative, inventive and yet that one trait that ruins it. Humans want.
They want to live, They want to have, They want to love, They want to be loved... It's just human nature.
And so after the great shock that was march 2020 humanity came to a realisation they needed to work on one thing. Medical care, Why you ask? Because they 'wanted to live'. To live longer, better, healthier lives. So for a while the world set aside its differences, research prospered as did trade and for a while there was a semblance of what one might even call peace.
They cured diseases like cancer with ease, Humanity's combined power and intelligence was unparalleled, nothing stood in their way. They even managed that which some considered playing god... They created a Serum for immortality.
Though not to be mistaken for being unkillable or undying, they simply no longer aged, though some humans still 'Wanted to enjoy themselves' and some in their greed seeked enjoyment in the death of others, they capital punishments were made mandatory all over earth because they weren't simply taking 100 years for someone anymore but rather an eternity.
They realised now that with the population only going up and not down they needed to solve resource issues, All countries put regulations into place stopping use of 'Disposable' Equipment, recycling was perfected and resources were less of an issue.
Yet as always with humans after they achieved that which they came together to do, the age of utopia did not last long. they had done all they could to reuse all they had, they could all live comfortably yet they wanted more. they didn't have enough materials to make what satisfied their desires. Their whims. Their wants. 'But if we had what they had' 'if there was less people we could have more' 'we could be happier'
A true world war broke out. No lines were drawn, Allies a thing of the past, No country on the side of another.
One order. One button press. One small movement was all it took... then hellfire rained down on all. They had eliminated all difficulties they had in life yet turned their head to desire. They wanted. It caused an apocalypse. Some survived on earth for a time. Those on the surface died quickly. Other people, of radiation or the lack of desire to live.
Those who were safe underground died in a way much more grim. They starved before long, the prepared ones lived for as long as they could take it, as long as they had rations... on in some cases as long as they had other people...
The humans that managed to survive did so not on earth but on a relic of the Golden age of humanity. The lived amongst the stars for a thousand years, Their numbers were never more than 100,000, only when one wished to cease was a new life allowed to be born aboard the Ironically named 'Salvation'.
Floating in the voids of space until at long last they found a new suitable home. Little did they know they were the last of their kind. 1000 years after they set off the hellfire rained down, almost ending humanity yet it took another 600 years for the news to reach them. Images of fire death and destruction was all that could be seen, One last message to pass on the mistake that caused their downfall. 'Do not follow in our footsteps, are days now are numbered. We caused this ourselves, Our greatest obstacle was not disease or global warming but our selves. Our own nature.'
But as with all, the end is just another beginning. A start of a new chapter, a start of a new book, a start of a new series.
