Chapter 23 - Chapter 018 / Luxurious Greeting

Casper had to part with his new archenemy. The very quiet Malte, whose appearance was covered by thousands and thousands of bandages, went outside. The other recruits, including myself, were directed to a spiral staircase in the corner of the room. A V.I.P. room should be there.

But what is a V.I.P. room? Is V. I. P. a so-called acronym? An abbreviation for a longer word or term. V. I. P ....

valient incapable persons?

very incomprehensive privileges?

I don't know the meaning o this acronym, but that doesn't matter, because I'll see what a V.I.P. room looks like in a moment anyway.

As a whole group, we recruit climbed the spiral staircase. I was lined up at the very back and it was difficult to see through the crowd. But when everyone was in the room and the distance between the people got bigger and bigger, I finally saw the room in which we were.

The walls were a red velvet color and there were candles all over the room. The entire atmosphere in this so-called V.I.P. room was that of luxury.

Every object in this room exuded an expensive value. Many other recruits seem to be impressed by these 4 walls as well. I don't know what pasts and experiences they all already have. Some of them have probably been training for this exam their entire lives, while others like me have only recently found out about the RO.

The main attraction of the V.I.P. room was a huge balcony. A balcony big enough to carry all of the recruits. And the real tournament took place in front of that balcony.

When you stepped onto the balcony, you could see an almost inhuman number of spectators and seats in front of you.

There was a huge arena in front of us!

A battlefield of uncertain size. The people who sat here cheered and shouted. Graham wasn't wrong. The recruitment isn't just about training and testing new forces, it's a huge tourist attraction as well.

The battlefield everyone was staring at could not be seen. It was just too dark.

So when we were all waiting for the recruitment to begin, and of course for the performance that Malte the mummy would give us, I was wondering how the hell the RO is supposed to be able to light up the whole arena so that the recruits can be reached can see the presentation. After all, the RO is underground, we have no sunlight and I also don't think that they will light up everything here with candles like in the V.I P. room.

My question should have resolved itself in the next moment. Everywhere in the arena hundreds of small flares appeared without any warning or announcement - they were about half a meter in diameter. The thousands upon thousands of flares illuminated the arena. Now you could finally see the arena below. The floor was mostly sand and several small scaffolding had been put up. The ball of light reminds me very much of the will-o'-the-wisps that I met at the landlord's house. I will never forget the sight of those red prancing flames. At that time I had no idea what was going on in this world .....

,,Are you ready!!!!''

A loud voice penetrated the arena. The audience responded with a lot of yelling and clapping. They radiated an utter euphoria that I've never felt before.

Now the man who greeted the audience appeared.

Huh ?! it was a man in brightly colored clothes. He wore glittering trousers and a brightly colored waistcoat. His hair was pointing strangely in every direction and his face tightened his smile so much that you would think he was pulling a grimace.

,, Welcome ladies and gentlemen, here in the RO and to the 15th recruiting program! ´´

* cheers *

"Please a big applause for our rank 1 soldiers who carefully selected our recruits!"

The colorfully dressed man points to a balcony that was positioned roughly across from ours. As the man announced, on this balcony were the rank 1 soldiers and the leader of the RO.

As Graham told me, rank 1 is the highest rank you can have before the leader.

Many of the people standing there all had their stature and personality. You could feel the experiences and wisdom that these men and women have already made. Stories that could fill entire books.

A young man emerged from the group of these specialists. FOnly seeing him from a distance, he was about 5 years older than me and wore a dark robe with a purple pattern.

The boy spoke up:

,, I thank you as the leader RO .....

Wait a minute This boy is the leader? The strongest soldier in the entire RO. is just 20 ?!

I ignored what the leader was saying. The fact that a boy his age already had such a position is truly a mystery. Many other recruits my age were just as surprised.

Probably good luck and tough nights of training were what got him to his position.

I started listening to the young genius again.

..... But now applause to our first recruit, Malte!

Malte entered the arena with thunderous applause. As in the locker room, the protective suit he was wearing obscured his entire form.

nevertheless, you could tell by his heavy steps how serious he meant it.
