Chapter 14 - Chapter 010 | when the disadvantage becomes the advantage

As Graham continued to incite his homunculi on me, noting, that I'm just dodging every attack narrowly by the length of a finger, he began to tell me:

"Do you remember when I told you in the Landlord's house that I was going to teach you how to prove yourself? How you're able to beat other Ristics? Now is the moment. Once you know it, the answer seems simple''

"How can I prove myself?" I shouted out of desperation and overexertion.

"Let it be brought closer to you in a riddle. What do you and a blind man have in common? How can you benefit from this?

I want you to come up with the solution yourself ''

Now Graham pulled out another one of his test tubes and sent another homunculus on me. Now 2 homunculi attacked me at the same time.

"As I said this training will bring you to your limits , physically and mentally"

Is he crazy?! If this continues with these attacks, at some point I will no longer be able to avoid them and I will die.

I noticed, that sweat was already running from my head.

What do a blind man and I have in common? We both have a disadvantage over others. But how should that be an advantage?

The afternoon looked like it was never going to stop until Graham said, "Well that was it for now. You'd better take an hour off now. There are extra rooms for you recruits. You would have to drag yourself there on your own, as I first have to go to the council to give them a report. The rooms for the recruits are on the left when you exit the exit and then take the second corridor on the right. Your room is number 4''

Graham left the training room and I first took a deep breath. I think I lost the track of time, but I must have been in here with Graham for several hours. I slowly trotted out of the room. Limping slightly, I passed the many shops and people. I was so exhausted that I could no longer enjoy the atmosphere here. The laughter, the music, and the people just passed me by. I blocked them completely.

When I finally saw the rooms, I hobbled straight to room number 4.

There were 3 beds there. I seem to have roommates. I lay down on the bed that looked the least used. As I lay on the bed, I felt like only my lungs and brain were working properly. All other muscles, bones, and organs were no longer functional. As I slowly throttled to sleep, I was already thinking of hallucinating. I saw a boy with black hair staring at me from the edge of the bed. After a full minute, I noticed that it was not a hallucination.

I opened my eyes.

The boy noticed this and began to address me:

,,Hello my name is Varro! You're surely Graham's student! '' He greeted me in an exemplary manner, "There are many rumors that are buzzing around you at the moment. Is it true that you don't own a Ristic? Or is it just so strong that you can't use it? ''

Varro waited for me to give him an answer, but I didn't have the energy to use my vocal cords.

,, Aaaahhh, surely you have no more energy to talk to me. Graham is known here for pushing his students to their limits. Wait I have this one ''

Varro pulled a vial from one of the drawers in this room. In this bottle was a multitude of small yellow balls.

"This is a Type 2 Ristic that I bought here. These balls will give you energy again so that you can talk to me ''

Without warning me, Varro put two pills in my mouth, not that I could defend myself somehow. I quickly felt the yellow balls dissolving on my tongue. My arms didn't start to be numb anymore. My mouth wasn't dry. And of course, my vocal cords seemed to be working again.

"Thank you!" I told him.

"Don't worry, this product is dirt cheap and I hardly ever need it anyway," he replied, embarrassed.

,,Varro! I'll answer any questions you have later, but before that, you have to help me with a little question .....

.

.

.

What are the advantages of being blind? ''

"Mmmm, that is a strange question, I guess that then he can concentrate more on hearing and feeling, right?"

That's it! Now the answer fell like scales from my eyes.

I thanked Varro and promised to answer all of his questions later.

With the newly gained energy, I ran back to the training ground. Graham was already waiting for me there.

"I now know how to prove myself," I told him with full confidence
