Chapter 1 - Prologue

I was little. Far too little to remember, but I was reminded by my mother when I was able to remember things and people important to me. My mother is a single mom. She always had to go to work, so she hired a babysitter to take care of me when I was four. She was beautiful, and I fell in love with her before I understood what love was.

When I was ten, I was able to be friends with her. I understood what love was then, but I was afraid to ask her out because she was eighteen. Then one day, it was like she read my mind, but her answer was not what I expected. She said, "I know you like me, so how about when your fifteen?"

I was so happy to hear those words. They were like music to my ears. We decided that when I was seventeen, we would start dating. But one day, she stopped coming over to the house. I asked my mom where she lived, but she didn't know. That was when I received a text that said, "Hi Carmen. I can't come over today. I wish you a good day!"

I was sad and glad at the same time. She was okay, and I had her number. It was okay, until she completely stopped visiting. I texted her, "Hey. You okay? You haven't been visiting."

"I'm fine. I found a new job and I can't find time to visit."

"Oh. Okay. Talk to you later πŸ’•"

"Talk to you later πŸ˜‹"

That was the last text I received from her. She just stopped texting me, and she was never online. I was worried, so I decided to find her address on Google. I found it, but it was in the outskirts, and I wasn't allowed to go out of town yet. I called one of my friends who can drive, and that night, I snuck out of the house and gave him the address.

We drove out of the town, and we made it to her house. My friend asked, "Who lives here?" I replied, "My future girlfriend. I have to see if she's okay." My friend snickered and said, "Alright. Let's go inside." We walked up to the front door, and when we did, we heard white noise from inside.

My friend said, "Maybe her T.V isn't working. I may be able to fix it if she lets me." I said, "You know a lot for a twelve year old." He said, "I know. Let's hurry up." I knocked on the door. No answer. I knocked again. No answer. I said, "She's probably asleep." My friend said, "It's not even that late at night. I have a bad feeling about this."

When he had a bad feeling, it was usually right. I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I shouted, "Is anyone home?" There was still no answer. My friend walked behind the house, and I was still trying my luck from the outside. Then my friend shouted, "Carmon! You better come and see this!"

It was panicky, so I rushed to the back. When I got there, my friend was in front of a window, shaking. I looked at it, and there was blood on the window. There was no way to see from inside. My friend opened the window, and I wanted to scream, but I couldn't.

Her body was surrounded by a dark pool of blood. There were many stab marks on her chest and back, and her clothes were taken off. The lights were off, and the only thing lighting up the living room was the T.V. My friend quickly called the police, and my friend said, "We need to stay out of the scene so.... um... Carmon?" Something snapped inside me. I was too young to feel this feeling.

I screamed, "Mindy!" I shouted her name and screamed for a solid three minutes. My friend hugged me tightly and he said, "I'm so sorry." Blood started to ooze out of my mouth, and I couldn't make a sound. My friend said, "Oh my god..." Tears were streaming down my face like bullets. My friend said, "Keep it together. Please."

My legs felt weak. I wanted to die so I could be with her, but that was impossible. My mother and friends would be sad, and I couldn't be selfish. The police finally arrived, and there was an ambulance. The police started investigating, and the ambulance took me and my friend to the hospital.

I completely broke my voice box, and there was no way it could be healed. Soon, my mother was called in, and she cried over me for a while. My mother wouldn't pay for surgery, so I stayed mute. I decided that I was going to be a detective so I can solve the so called "impossible" case. "The "Mindy Gold" Case.
